Should forwards be awarded a point for a Clean Sheet?

YES, because forwards can have an important role to play defensively

Should forwards be awarded a point for a Clean Sheet?

Post by Pommy Jimbo »

Looks like I've tied for the January Clean Sheet prize with troytown. We've both 'allegedly' got 30 clean sheets. Unfortunately though it looks like troytown is going to take out the prize due to the tiebreaker: most goals scored (see Rule 12 of T&C below). Troytown scored 4 more goals than me, including Benjani's hat-trick.

Problem is I can't work out for the life of me how CYKI reckons we both have scored 30 clean sheets. I've looked through troytown's and my teams between weeks 21 and 24 and here's what I found:

My team's clean sheets by position: 2 GK/14 DEF/7 MID = 23
Troytown's: 3 GK/11 DEF/8 MID = 22

I guess there must be some points system for this category but I can't possibly see what formula could result in us both having 30 points! :?

Can anyone crack the code? Thought I'd give you all a chance to come up with an answer before I ask CYKI.

Am I missing something obvious, like getting the wrong dates or perhaps they haven't properly updated the scores yet?

BTW, we both have captained CRon for the last 4 weeks so it can't have anything to do with the captaincy. Let me know if you work it out! thanks

T&C:
12. In the event of a tie in any of the prize categories, the winner will be the team that has scored the most goals. If the result is still a tie, the tying team with the most 'assists' will be the winner. If a clear winner still does not emerge, ISMFG will use a random draw to determine the overall winner.

The following points system would result in 30 pts for both of us:

1pt - clean sheet for keeper/defender
2pts - clean sheet for midfielder

Doesn't seem to make much sense though does it giving the midfielders more points?

I checked this scoring system theory with another couple of teams and while it worked for one it didn't hold up for the other.

I've emailed CYKI to find out... not that any of you probably care very much! :(

I'm assuming you mean here that you emailed them via the site etc - but in case you weren't aware they have a presence on the forum as well, user name CYKI, so you could try pm-ing him if you get no luck via email.

(If you already knew that please ignore me)

Well done by the way - tough break on the tie-breaker :(

I'm pretty certain they include CS's for strikers too, for some bizarre reason. I remember trying to work this out earlier in the season.

You're right fkc!!! Just got an email saying that I'd "forgotten about strikers"!! Since when has a striker had anything to do with a clean sheet ??!?!?!

Think I might start up a name-a-defensive-striker competition.

This is extremely disappointing! I'm going to ask for my money back. :)

Strikers do occasionally clear off their own lines, as well as going back for corners and free kicks.

Are you basing your model on table football?
