Brentford play host to Newcastle United in a match day 15 fixture in the English Premier League at the Gtech Community Stadium.
The match which is scheduled to be held on the 7th of December, 2024 promises to be an exciting one with both teams looking to grab maximum points. The Magpies will be hoping to continue their resurgent form while Brentford will be out for revenge after losing 4-2 the last time both teams faced each other on the final day of the 2023/24 season.
As of the time of writing, the Bees are currently 11th on the English Premier League table. They have won five games, drawn twice, and lost another five in their first 12 league games. In the summer, they lost talisman Ivan Toney, who scored 67 times in 128 appearances, to Saudi Arabia side Ah Ahli for a fee in the region of about £40 million. The England international was replaced with former Club Brugge striker Igor Thiago, but question marks remained over how they would cope without the 28-year-old.
However, they began the season with a comfortable 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace as Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa scored to secure maximum points. Their first loss of the season came at the hands of league leaders Liverpool as Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah scored to give the Reds a 2-0 win. Their most recent league outing was a goalless draw with Everton after they had a man sent off in the first half.
Thomas Frank side also made history by becoming the first team ever in the English top flight division to score in the opening minute of a match for three consecutive games. They are also in the quarterfinals of the EFL Carabao cup where they travel to St. James Park on the 18th of December having defeated Sheffield Wednesday on penalties in the previous round.
Newcastle United on the other hand have had a mixed start to the season. As of the time of writing, they sit ninth on the log with five wins, three draws and three losses. They struggled to build on an impressive 2022/23 season as they failed to qualify for Europe in the 2023/24 season after finishing seventh on the table which was just a place outside qualification.
Their major incoming in the summer was left-back Lewis Hall who joined from Chelsea. They failed to sign their major transfer target of the summer after they were unable to agree a fee with Crystal Palace for defender Marc Guehi. They however tied winger Anthony Gordon to a new deal and prevented him from joining Liverpool and were also able to keep Sweden international Alexander Isak amidst interest from Premier League rivals.
Their first match of the season ended in a lone goal victory over newly-promoted Southampton as a Joelinton first-half strike was enough to secure all three points. They continued their brilliant start to the season as they won three of their opening four matches before falling to defeat for the first time this season to Fulham. Their most recent outing was a comfortable victory over high flying Nottingham Forest.
Eddie Howe’s side claimed the bragging rights in both matches in this fixture last season as they won 1-0 at home before defeating the Bees 4-2 in the reverse. Brentford have a poor record in this fixture with just one victory in nine matches. Newcastle have however won seven times with just one match ending in a draw.
