Borussia Monchengladbach vs Bayern Munich preview, team news, tickets, and prediction

Monchengladbach and Bayern Munich will lock horns at the Borussia-Park for their first meeting of the 2024/25 Bundesliga campaign in the new year.

As of the time of writing, Monchengladbach have 17 points after 11 games, while Bayern Munich have garnered 29 points and they sit in top of the log from the same number of games played.

Borussia Monchengladbach are one of the teams in the top 6 on the Bundesliga log at this time. The side has been churning out mixed results following a preseason period where they won seven games in a row. The 2024/25 season started in the DFB Pokal where they defeated Aue, but their Bundesliga journey started on a losing note at the hands of defending champions Bayer Leverkusen.

However, Die Fohlen picked their first win of the season in the 2-0 win over Bochum. Consistency was far from them as they fell to consecutive defeats in the next two matches against Stuttgart and Frankfurt. Tomas Cvancara scored the only goal on match day 5 to help Gladbach beat Union Berlin at home.

A 2-1 defeat at the hands of Augsburg meant Die Fohlen started October on a losing note before they beat Heidenheim 3-2 in the following game. The side was dumped out of the DFB Pokal by Frankfurt. However, November was a month of bliss as they found the needed consistency. Die Fohlen defeated Bremen 4-1 before a goalless draw with RB Leipzig and then a 2-0 win over St. Pauli after the November international break.

As of the time of writing, they have been finding their feet at the right time and this might help them get going in this game.

As for Bayern Munich, the season was expected to be better than last term after they finished the season trophyless and it has been going according to plan. The Bavarians lost the Bundesliga title to Bayer Leverkusen as well as the DFB Pokal, while eventual winners Real Madrid sent them out in the UEFA Champions League. Under Vincent Kompany, they have been consistent and finished 2024 on a strong note. So, they will be aiming to finish the job in the new year.

Certainly, the club needed a new direction after last season’s disappointment. Up to the challenge, Bayern Munich started the season with a 4-0 win over Ulm in the DFB Pokal. In the Bundesliga, the Bavarians won their opening four games against Wolfsburg, Freiburg, Kiel, and Werder Bremen before a 1-1 draw with defending champions Bayer Leverkusen at home.

In the Champions League, Bayern Munich thumped Dinamo Zagreb 9-2 before a 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa. A 4-1 defeat at the hands of Barcelona then followed before a hard-fought 1-0 win over Benfica got them back on track. And they also defeated PSG by the same scoreline to keep pace with the sides above them on the log.

Back in the Bundesliga, Kompany’s side played an entertaining 3-3 draw against Frankfurt before three consecutive wins against Stuttgart, Bochum, and Union Berlin sent them to the summit of the log. The side also progressed in the DFB Pokal after beating Mainz 4-0 in the round of 32. The side are looking good on all fronts and Kompany must be pleased with what he has done so far.

After the win of the French Champions in the UCL, Kompany said; “I’m obviously happy. Our pressing in the first half was very good. The discipline was there. We could have scored perhaps one or two more goals, but the result is good. We are on the right track but working to become even better.”

With the words above, the Bavarians have been excellent after a slow start and it seems all the players are on board with Kompany to finish the fine work he has started. With the manner they are playing at the moment, the Bundesliga title looks destined to be theirs and this game should see them claim another win on the road.

Borussia M’gladbach vs Bayern Munich’s head to head record shows that in the previous 49 meetings, Borussia M’gladbach has won 14 times, Bayern Munich has won 20 times, and 15 ended in a draw.

Prediction

Monchengladbach have a lot to do when they come up against Bayern Munich in this fixture. The hosts have lost two of the past three meetings and this game is coming at a tough time for them. By the way, getting Monchengladbach tickets is quite important.

Bayern Munich have been imperious in some games this term. Kompany has been able to figure out his team with the likes of Olise, Musiala, and Kane finding expression in attack. If they don’t win here, it will be down to them not playing in their usual devastating manner. At the time of writing this piece, they have won five of their six away Bundesliga games this season.
