1. Fantasy League's Champions League Competition

Pick an 11 man team, 'filled to the rafters' with star players (no monetary limits - just a max 2 players per club) and you could be watching the Champions League final at Old Trafford on 28 May 2003 with £1,000 cash spending money. Choose your 6 transfers wisely though, with Phase 2 lasting from November to March there is plenty of time for injuries and loss of form. Tactics do play a part so do consider the rules before you jump in. Please check the following sites for the latest injury news (including news that Barcelona's star playmaker and captain, Luis Enrique has been ruled out until the New Year):

3. Fantasy Cricket Club - V.B. Triangular ODI Series - (Reviewed by Sam David, based on initial draft from David Piesing)

There’s £6,000 to be won in FCC’s new competition beginning in December.

Contestants simply have to select a team of 11 cricketers to earn fantasy points based on the runs, wickets, stumpings and catches they accumulate during the V.B. Series between Australia, Sri Lanka and England.

The Game covers up to 15 matches, starting with Australia vs England on Friday 13 December and finishing with the best of three Final in late-January.

As usual, each team must contain 5 Batsmen, 1 Keeper, 1 All-Rounder and 4 Bowlers.  Every cricketer has been given a unique rating for this FCC Game.  The total Player Ratings of the 11-man team must not exceed 75 points.  There is no restriction on the number of cricketers selected from any one country.

Entrants can make unlimited changes to their teams until the deadline for Match 1 of 0400 GMT on 13 December.  After this, and before the final fixture, everyone can transfer up to 11 players online.

The transfer deadline is 0400 GMT on the day of each game, except for Match 7 in Hobart on 13 January (the only one that is not a day-nighter), for which the transfer deadline is 2300 GMT on 12 January.

The Entry Fee is £5 per team.  Cash awards are as follows:

First Prize £2,500; Second £1,000; Third £750; Fourth £500 and Fifth £250;

Winner of each of the four calendar phases: £250

Full details of the fixtures and phases, player lists and ratings, and the points scoring system are available on the FCC website.

8. Fantasy Snooker League update - Reviewed by Joe Ciampa and Sam David

Season of shocks

The snooker year has started with a bang!  Rank outsider, Chris Small, surprised everyone by taking the LG Cup title in October, defeating the likes of John Higgins and Ronnie O’Sullivan along the way.  Chris also managed to reach the semi-final of the British Open in November, before losing to Paul Hunter, the eventual winner.  As a result, both Chris and Paul have been racking up the fantasy points.  The top dozen scorers are:

With four ranking events to go and a large number of jokers still to be played, there are many opportunities to turn the overall league table on its head. Hami Tadbiri enjoys the top spot for now.

Congratulations also go to Keith Tomlinson, whose team was the top scorer (excluding bonuses) in the LG Cup and well done to Glenn Doman, who came top in the British Open.

Fantasysnookerleague.com is currently working on enhancements to the game.  These include the possible inclusion of mid season team entry, transfers and mini-leagues.  More information about these improvements will be posted on the website, FISO forum and in future issues of this newsletter.

9. FISO member, Steve Legg, wins the first mini-season of the FreeFantasyFootball.tv game!

Copy of Press Release from FreeFantasyFootball.tv:

'Swindon Town Fan Beats 60,000 Fantasy Football Managers

To Become Number 1!

Local Swindon Town football fan, Steve Legg, has won himself £5,000 and the prestigious title of the best Free Fantasy Football manager in the land.

Legg of Covingham, Swindon, fought off stiff competition to win the 1st Mini-Season title to win the www.freefantasyfootball.tv game, competing against 60,000 other managers to win the cash prize.

The free fantasy football game has three parts to the season; mini-season 1 (Aug – Nov), mini-season 2 (Nov – Feb) and mini-season 3 (Feb – May), which gives aspiring managers three chances to win throughout the football season.  There is also an overall season winner, of which Steve Legg is currently leading.

“The extraordinary thing about Steve’s win, was his domination of the table”, explains Jon Trigg, of www.freefantasyfootball.tv , “He has four teams in the tournament and three of his teams came in first, second and third”, adds Trigg.  The odds of Steve Legg’s three teams, named S.A.L 1, S.AL 2 and S.A.L 3, coming top of the league after the first mini-season would work out at least 90,000-1.

With Swindon Town languishing mid-table in Division 2 it may be reassuring for the clubs directors to know that they have managerial talent sitting on their doorstep.  More importantly Steve Legg is not the only Town talent out there.  Currently Swindon Town fans are proving to be the best fantasy football managers in Division 2.

As for the man who has dominated fantasy football over the last three months, Steve Legg remains as laid back as Sven Goran-Eriksson.  Commenting on his football windfall " It feels great to win this competition from www.freefantasyfootball.tv and the prize money will certainly help with Christmas approaching!" '

The game, www.freefantasyfootball.tv , was set up by fantasy fanatics just over two years ago.  Currently there are 60,000 players from around the globe that play the game for up to £40,000 worth of prizes.

10. Fantasy National Hunt Racing from FSUK

FSUK currently have a Fantasy Stable (National Hunt) competition open for entry, the deadline for entry is 12:00 GMT 30 November 2002. This is their first horse racing competition to go live, therefore they have done very little in the way of marketing, and in many respects are using this competition as a test run for their later Fantasy Racing (Flat) competition which should be more heavily marketed.

For the NH competition FSUK are only expecting about 500 entries; in the first 10 days that the competition was open for entry about 300 entries were received (up to 22 November). According to FSUK, there is a total guaranteed prize fund of £10,000 including monthly prizes. Entry cost is £10, including your transfer fee.

The format of the competition is to basically select 2 trainers, 2 jockeys, 5 chasers and 5 hurdlers. Each aspect of your stable will carry a fictitious value and you have a budget of £20M to build your stable. The stable earns points based on their performances, scoring for Trainers and Jockeys are based on the number of wins and places, scoring for horses is also based on wins and places but are dependant on the grade of race and the starting price. There are also bonus points to be earned for big races.

11. The Andy Luckhurst Horseracing Corner.

I'm pleased to provide the odd racing tip for FISO members. I'll give a rating to the bet with 5/10 being average. You can catch more of my tips on the Beat The Bookies part of the FISO forum. Today's report:

'Well at present my ante post portfolio consists of:

Hussard Collonges @ 14/1 e/w for the Hennessy,

Moscow Flyer @ 9/2 for the Champion Chase,

Bacchanal @ 33/1 Gold Cup,

Rooster Booster @ 12/1 Champion Hurdle,

Spectrometer @ 40/1 e/w Triumph Hurdle,

Statue of Liberty @ 16/1 2000 Guineas.

Unfortunately the timing of newsletters makes it difficult to pass on full value, but Hussard Collonges @ 10/1 (general) (1point e/w) for the Hennessy seems a fair bet, as barring injury he is certain to run next week and is a good jumper and will act on soft and stays well.'

Andy.
