1. Fantasy Cricket Club - The Ashes!

The 2002/3 Ashes Series begins on Thursday 7 November (entry deadline Wednesday 20:00 GMT) and the £10,000 FCC Ashes Fantasy Game is now accessible via  www.fantasycricketclub.com.  It costs £5 to enter a team.

The Game rules have been summarised by FISO member, Sam David, as follows:
  • Select an 11-man team with a total ratings value not exceeding 75 points (quite a tight budget!)
  • There's no limit on the number of players from either country
  • Pick 5 Batsmen, 1 Wicketkeeper, 1 All-Rounder and 4 Bowlers from the Player List
  • You are allowed up to 11 free transfers during the Series
  • Batsmen score 1 point for every 5 runs
  • There's an innings bonus of an extra 5 points for a 50, 10 pts for 100, and so on
  • Bowlers score 6 points for a wicket, less 2 pts for each 30 runs conceded in an innings (so if the England bowlers take a hammering then the ones that play may well be into negative points!)
  • There's an innings bonus of 5 points for 5 wickets, 10 pts for 6 wickets, etc
  • Fielders (including wicketkeepers) score 2 points for each catch
  • Keepers score 4 points for each stumping, with a bonus of 5 pts for 5 dismissals in an innings
  • Any selected player who does not appear will score a fixed 5 points for that match (so the cheap non-playing bowler could be useful)
  • Closing entry deadline to be eligible for the Series prize is 2000 GMT on Wed 6 November
  • Due to taking postal entrants there are NOT unlimited transfers prior to the start of the game so be careful when picking your initial team (and don't pick Darren Gough who is already ruled out of the 1st Test and may miss the entire Series!)
  • The series prize winner will collect £5,000 and the runner up £1,000
  • The first and second in each of the five Tests will receive £500 and £300 respectively

The low-down on Everton F.C.

So the heir apparent to the title of English soccer superhero is making the headlines just days after his 17th birthday but Wayne Rooney probably wouldn't be doing so if he wasn't part of a successful team that has been put together by young manager, David Moyes. Like our review in FSN of Middlesbrough, many of the Everton players may represent great value for money in TFF/TFFO (and other Fantasy Football games), so we've taken an in depth look at their 1st team squad.

  • Confirmation about the TFF Divisional Split on 4 November:

You may have caught in FSN 58 that the TFF game will be split into separate divisions based on tiers of 50,000 teams within the game as at midnight last night (Monday 4 November). This is to provide extra entertainment to those teams perhaps out of reach of the overall prizes. A snapshot is taken at that time. If you are outside the top 50,000 teams, you will be informed of your league position and points total, as well as the number of points you are behind the leader of the Division in which you will be competing - so watch out for this letter in the post coming very soon.

There is no extra prize available for the top 50,000 teams (the so-called Premier League) but those in the 1st Division (50,001 to 100,000), 2nd Div'n (100,001 to 150,000), 3rd Div'n (150,001 to 200,000) and also 4th Div'n (200,001 to prob around 205,000), each compete for an extra £5,000 for the winner of each Division. Click here for the latest news on the form.

    8. The Andy Luckhurst Horseracing Corner.

'I'm pleased to provide the odd racing tip for FISO members. I'll give a rating to the bet with 5/10 being average. You can catch more of my tips on the Beat The Bookies part of the FISO forum. Today's report:

Well we seem to be winning still ! Hopefully Pugin will reward those who took 10/1 for the Melbourne Cup.

2/10 rating: Perfect Fellow 6/1 e/w with Corals for the Thomas Pink Gold Cup at Cheltenham on 16 November. Is a certain runner barring injury having won a trial that has thrown up past winners. Improving and very well suited by the trip and the way in which the race is run, kicking off the home turn. Looks a solid e/w chance at the favourable ante post terms of 1/4 for 1.2.3.4

1/10 rating: Statue of Liberty 16/1 to win the 2003 Guineas in May with Corals. A long way ahead, but this speedy miler by Storm Cat is, I gather, the more fancied of the O'Brien inmates and will be a short price if he makes it on the day. I hope to be there with Chris King and others so will no doubt get some flak if it goes wrong! A winner of the best early season 2yo, the Coventry at Royal Ascot, we are still betting on reputation to a large extent.
