Check out the latest news on our Fantasy Sports forums! http://www.fiso.co.uk/forum/philboard_latest.asp Fantasy League - It's a Classic! The Original Fantasy League's classic game (OFL) is already up and running and generating plenty of entries. If you're not familiar with OFL then we think you're missing out big time. Great fun, an intriguing challenge and well run by a reliable and responsive team. Great value for £10. For those familiar with OFL then the main rule change to be aware of for 2003/04 is on transfers which is bound to alter many entrants' tactics this year. The new transfer rules are as follows: Transfers are now split into three phases, mirroring the three stages of the Classic European competitions. Teams begin each phase with a quota of eight transfers, thus ensuring that all teams have an equal chance of progressing to the next phase, and indeed the same chance as winning a coveted European title. Phase Dates Transfers: Qualification 16th Aug 2003 – 23rd Nov 2003 - 8 Groups 24th Nov 2003 – 18th Jan 2004 - 8 Knockouts 19th Jan 2004 – 23rd May 2004 - 8 However, all unused transfers as of the end of each phase are simply forfeited and are not carried over to any subsequent phase. So gone are the hoarding of transfers for the knock-out stages but the changes do make for a more evenly fought contest. Hope to see you in the knock-out stages, challenging for the title of Champions League Champion! To apply to join the FISO Friends (& Enemies) League, please use the URL below and enter your team details - http://classic.fantasyleague.com/app/friends/join.asp?team=701591&league=1215 There are no restrictions on the number of teams you can enter into this mini-league. URL - http://britishfantasyfootball.theherald.co.uk/ We're really impressed with the layout of the website - very easy to enter, to understand the rules and also to choose your teams. The general rules are that you have £50M to buy a fantasy squad of 11 players with options over the formation and a maximum of 3 players per EPL or SPL club. During the season you can make squad changes by transferring up to 4 players per month and they are effective immediately if made at least 30 minutes prior to the earliest kick-off time on any match day. Entry is free and if you finish the season top of the league you win £10,000. Entry deadline (to start scoring from the start) is Saturday 9th August 2003 and there are unlimited transfers pre-season. Max 5 team registrations per email address and over 5,000 teams have been registered to date already. You manage a Scottish team loosely based on real life players but where the manager decides team line-ups, tactics, training, transfers etc. Two matches are played each Saturday with results and reports emailed direct to managers 5 hours after the deadline. The web page at www.sesl.net is updated weekly and gives managers direct links into the database to view team web pages and schedules etc via ASP pages. Games are simulated using MSWL Olmec software ( http://www.mswl.org ). Football Fantastic - http://www.footballfantastic.com Football Fantastic is a different concept in fantasy football competitions. You pick teams instead of players from a select number of groups. Teams earn points dependent on their performance against other teams in their league and the Champions League. The manager whose teams earn the most points will win the competition. There are prizes for finishing the season 1st, 2nd and 3rd as well as monthly prizes for the manager with the most points in a particular calendar month. The leagues chosen this year are the English Premiership, Italian Seria A, the Spanish La Liga and the German Bundesliga. All the clubs from these 4 leagues have been divided into 6 groups depending on their finishing position in last year's league and their Champions League grouping. The 4 leagues chosen to participate in this year's competition have been chosen because they can all be viewed on English television and satellite. All you have to do is pick one team from each of the groups that the teams have been divided into. Points are scored as follows: Win = double the points of the team played Draw = the points of the team played Lose = No points Every goal scored earns 1 point Every clean sheet kept earns 1 point e.g. Juventus 3 - Arsenal 1. Juventus would earn 39 points and Arsenal would earn 1 point.
