Football games starting soon! See
full review in Part 2 below. Starts
for real on 10 September but you can take part in a pre-season challenge which
we would highly recommend for this quite involved game. Free-to-play and run by
the team behind the now obsolete CYKI game. Squad system with automatic
substitutions, captains, fluctuations in player values, 1 transfer per week
(more are allowed but you lose points from your existing total), varied
formations, unique scoring system. A simple registration with PremierLeague.com,
the official Premier League site, required. For
the 2002/3 football season, GoHighOrLow have predicted how many points they
think each team in the Premiership will get by the end of the season. You choose
five different teams where your prediction differs most from theirs, and decide
if those teams are going to score more (go higher) or less (go lower). The
aim is to differ as much as possible. You need to also pick the winner of the
F.A. Cup and Worthington Cup. Mini-leagues facility available. Game running
has been outsourced to GFM Services (who look after TFFO & TFF amongst other
games). There is a £1,000 prize for the winner. Entry fee is £5 and entry
deadline is 31 August. PlayerBoss
is run by ex-Professional footballer, John Beresford, and you can compete
against Professional Footballers! Game kicks-off for real on 10 September with a
free-to-play pre-season game currently in progress. Entry fee will be £1.50 per
team if registered by 14 September. A
free-to-play game (now run by the DreamLeague.com team) which starts on 31
August. Choose an 11 man team with a max 2 players per club (no player values)
and use your 5 transfers per month to try and beat your competitors. If you do
then you're in the running for the season and monthly prizes totalling £12,000.
Team entry deadline to start scoring from 31 August is midnight Friday 30
August. Only one team per email address. Entry
deadline to start scoring straight away is midnight Friday 30 August for The
Times' Golden Boot game run by DreamLeague.com. Choose 10 strikers plus an
optional 1 star player each week (note: the star player option costs £5 for the
season but you could play the game just with 10 players for free). A list
of the 20 optional star players is published in The Times every Monday and this
list changes every week i.e. you cannot keep the same star player for more
than 1 week. Players available from EPL, SPL, Bundesliga, La Liga & Serie A
and you must pick at least one goal scorer from each league. Up to 10 transfers
available each week i.e. you can pick a totally different team each week. There
is a season prize of £20,000 and plenty of weekly prizes also on offer. The
aim of Edinburgh based score-prediction game, Football56, is to score the
highest number of points from 6 fixtures each week throughout the
course of the season which starts on 14 September. There is a free 4 week
demo from 17th August 2002 to 7th September 2002 and the person whose team has
scored the highest single week score during the demo period will win £250. Each
player must select the fixture list they would like to predict scores on; 3 to
choose from: English, Scottish and European. Points
are scored for each prediction as follows: 6
pts - Correct score. 4
pts - Correct result and correct
total of goals scored. 3
pts - Correct result. 1
pt - Correct total goals
scored. 0
pts - None of the above. Prizes
will be offered on a pools basis for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places and it
costs an equivalent of just 50p per week to play. In addition weekly and
monthly prizes are offered as well as a Jackpot prize if the maximum score
of 36 is achieved in any week. Free Mini Leagues are available. Spend £50m building
up your 11 man team in the Fantasy Football Masters. Formation is fixed at 4-4-2
and your Captain scores double points. Points system is quite varied and you
have 4 transfers per month. A free to play monthly game starting on 31 August
run by ESP Software. The
real competition does not get underway until the knock-out stages start in
November. Enter a team by 30 September costing £10 and you will still have the
maximum 20 transfers. Virtually
the same as The Mirror's game but FA Cup matches are included and there's
smaller cash prizes on offer (1st - £20,000, 2nd - £7,000, 3rd - £4,000 and
£500 per month). Starts Saturday 31 August (apparently at 3pm even though there
is a noon kick-off! Recommend you get your entries in by noon to make sure). We
also presume that points are just scored for matches from 31 August (does this
include the Bir v Leeds noon kick-off?) rather than from 17 August even though
the T&Cs just state the 2002/03 Premiership and FA Cup matches. Beware that,
like the Mirror, the cost of carrying out transfers will not be cheap
particularly if you use the maximum 24 available. Entry open to residents of the
UK, RoI, CI and IoM over 16 only. Transfers first effective from Saturday 14
September 2. BBC Fantasy Football Monthly - reviewed by FISO member,

some racing tips from Andy Luckhurst. Take it away Andy! 'I'm pleased to provide the odd racing tip for FISO members.
I'll give a rating to the bet with 5/10 being average. You can catch more of my
tips on the Beat
The Bookies part of the FISO forum. Today's tip: Rating - 3/10. Bandari is 4/1 as I write (27 August) for the
St Leger. I did fancy Kazzia but after her poor run last time it would appear
she picked up a knock and is a doubtful runner. I would then have fancied
Sholokhov, but he apparently runs wherever Hawk Wing does. With these two
as unlikely runners there must be a chance of value somewhere in the book given
how short they are in the betting. I therefore suggest Bandari who is a
galloper, but who on breeding would not be likely to get the trip. However after
his most recent win Mark Johnston said "He has to be a worthy favourite (St
Leger). He is an out and out galloper and will get the Leger trip". Look at
www.oddschecker.co.uk
to obtain the best price should you fancy a small ante post wager. For
updates to the above tip - check this forum topic. Best
of luck! Andy. |
