Internet Access and Downloads - by FISO's resident IT expert, Roger Wilson. Find a reliable ISP:
The
speed of your connection often depends on your ISP’s connection to the
internet and the number of customers they have. For dialup connections, I’ve
always found Tiscali to be a reliable connection. Your computer:
Your
computer can’t affect the speed of your connection but it can effect the way
the speed is handled. Web browsers rely on the speed and power of your computer
the same as any other program. The main components controlling the speed of your
computer are RAM, the CPU and your hard drive. The
most effective upgrades are RAM and the CPU. These two items complement and
hinder each other. A shortage of RAM will negate the effect of the increase in
speed of an upgraded CPU, while a slow CPU will negate the effect of increased
RAM above 128MB. Another,
but less effective upgrade, is your hard drive. IDE hard drives are readily
available with a rotation speed of 7200rpm compared with 5200rpm on old hard
drives. The increase in speed will have an effect of the speed of your computer
but not as much as the RAM and CPU upgrades. Optimise
your computer:
Hard
drives become fragmented and once they reach more than 20% fragmentation the
computer will start to slow down. Fragmentation is caused by files being deleted
and the remaining gap being filled by another file. But if the file is too big
for the gap then part of the file is placed in the gap and the remainder is
placed in the next available gap. If that gap is too small then another gap is
found and so on. This can cause files to be scattered across a hard drive, thus
making the access to this file slower as the computer searches for all the
parts. The
easiest way of defragmenting a hard drive is to use Window’s own
defragmentation software. Norton also offer a piece of software called Norton
Utilities which contains a program called speed disk. This program defragments
the disk and places the files most used in a position on the hard drive where
access is quicker. For a reminder on Website Access Speeds see Fantasy Sports Newsletter 44 on 22 January 2002. This is where I took a look at the principles behind internet access speeds and looked at access times for five of the major fantasy football websites. 2. News on the

Soccerleague was founded in 1993 and is a PBM (Play by Mail) football management
game using their own simulation software. You manage a fictitious team employing
fictitious players and have to manage your club's finances as well as the
players. The cost is £2.25 plus admin expenses per turn and overseas players
are welcome. MicroCoach
is a simulated football management game which is essentially played by normal
post, but managers can send their monthly returns via the Internet. The game is
now in its 8th season. Managers control a club with a squad of players and
stadium. They have budgets to improve both the players in their team and
the stadium by sending in their monthly return sheets which are sent out with a
colour magazine. Club names are fictitious but the players are taken from
real life, from leagues all over the world of football. Prior to each
season, each player is rated, based on real life performances and how they do in
the fully computerised game which runs all the matches in a detailed simulation. The
magazine includes all the results from the previous month in various
competitions. The league comprises 4 divisions with 20 teams in each - all
play all both home and away throughout the season which currently runs from
November to September, but from next year - seasons will run from January to
September. The game was started amongst friends and family, and although there
are members from all over the country and beyond, MicroCoach is still played in
a friendly club atmosphere and all members are invited to an annual barbecue at
the end of the season where all the cup finals in domestic and European
competitions are played. PFM
is a free, realistic simulated PBeM football management game. maninio.de is a German online
soccer manager game, where you can create your own team and play in 35 European
countries. Tipsters League offers a
football score prediction game, with three competitions running together, (plus
a lottery bonus ball game). The game is FREE to play at the moment and starts on
Saturday 10 August. All

the season in your own member area. You can make up to seven transfers during

real-life performance based fantasy football game. ESL is a football management
simulated PBeM league using the @esms software. There are 2 divisions with 8

non-football fantasy sports games (including Snooker, Cricket, American Football
& Baseball). FantasySnookerLeague.com is a
fantasy snooker league competition starting in September 2002 and based on the
real life performances of the top 32 players in the world. Your team is made up
by selecting 8 players and by choosing a ranking tournament to act as a bonus
round. Points are scored by match wins, frames won & lost, but only if your
selections reach the last 32 of any of the 9 ranking events throughout the
snooker season. The site includes league tables, fantasy stats, Pro tour results
and you can also login to your own team page to check out exactly how your team
is doing. This is the first season for FantasySnookerLeague.com and will
