Telegraph Fantasy Cricket (TFC) & the FISO Super League
Commentary by FISO
member, Sam David:
The closing date for this
year's competition is imminent: 10 a.m. BST Wednesday, 8 May. The Telegraph has
introduced a number of small changes this season but, in essence, you need to
pick five batsmen, an all-rounder, a keeper and four bowlers from a list of 270
players. Instead of the cash value-based system of the fantasy football
game, cricketers are given a rating of 1 to 9 (where 1 is best). The total
combined rating of the selected XI must be 41 or more.
To view the list of county & international cricketers, as well as the
registration form, log on to:
www.fantasycricket.telegraph.co.uk
Players score points based on the number of runs scored or conceded,
wickets taken and catches & stumpings made. Your chosen captain scores double.
The deadline for teams to accumulate points from day one is 8 May. The
season lasts twenty weeks, and will close with the matches on Sunday 22
September.
The prize for the best selector is £20,000, and there is a separate £10,000
for the winner of the international-only contest. The top superleague will
receive £5,000.
A FISO super league has now been set up. To participate, first enter
your XI online and then use FISO SuperLeague PIN 8000082 and chairman's team
PIN 5006244 to join over 20 (to date) other FISO teams in the super league.
Should we be lucky enough to win the top Super League prize of £5,000 then this
will be shared out amongst not only the top 5 but also all teams that have
at least 80% of the points total of our top team - so finish within 20% of first
place in the Super League and you could receive a payout!
The entry fee (including a super league entry) is £4 (or £6 if you wish to use
the internet for transfers).
Please access the FISO cricket forum (click here)
for initial news, tips on this summer's contest and full details of how the TFC
Super League prize would be paid out.

Free Entry Football Prediction Game - Join the FISO league
WeekendFootball
have invited FISO website users to take part in a free to enter football
prediction game. There is a £5,000 cash prize for the overall individual
winner, and a £1,000 cash prize for the winning league. Entry to the
competition is FREE, and will run through the 2002/03 season.
To get the ball rolling and the leagues set up, they are running a pilot
competition in MAY, for the last two weeks of the season, covering the weekends
of 4th and 11th May 2002, and have put up £500 cash for the overall individual
winner, and £250 for the winning league/website.
The essence of the competition is to compete against other football websites.
Each football site has its own leaderboard, so whilst FISO members are competing
against each other, there is an overall leaderboard, so FISO can compete against
other football sites.
The FISO competition pages have been set up at:
www.weekendfootball.co.uk/data/fiso/oddsvotes.asp
and with only a few people getting their treble prediction correct last
weekend, new entrants are very welcome. Entry deadline 11 a.m. Saturday 11 May.
You need to register first and be logged in to vote and take part in the
competition. Once you have voted for at least 3 weekend results you can choose
any 3 of your votes for the prize 'treble' competition.
The player with the highest 'bank' in the overall treble leaderboard on 12 May
2002 wins £500 cash, and the winning website gets £250 cash.
Your 'bank' is calculated by multiplying the accumulated odds of the 3 correct
matches against a "notional" £10 stake. If one or more of your match
predictions are wrong your bank will reduce by £10. The competition takes into
account the difficulty of predicting each game, and even if someone is bottom of
the league, you could win the next week because of the effect of multiplying 3
sets of odds.

League World Cup - Classic
Fantasy
League have just launched their classic World Cup game and the following is a
copy of their excellent write up on it:
'So how
easy is all this World Cup Fantasy League malarkey? About as easy as giving the
Germans a good pasting in their own backyard (i.e. very).
First you have to decide who to take with you (and no, we're not talking about
Ulrika or Nancy). Simply select your squad of 15 world-beaters from the 735
seasoned internationals (plus Nelson Vivas) on offer and away you go. There are
no player budgets to worry about, just a maximum of two players from any one
country. But don't worry, you won't be stuck with them for the whole tournament.
With daily points updates you'll soon find out if that ill-advised gamble on the
Senegalese goalie hasn't paid off. You may then want to use up one of your ten
transfers to cover up your gross stupidity.
And what prizes do you get for winning? Who cares about a big golden trophy
when you're on £10,000 a man to win? And that's not to mention the beach soccer
in Rio and the thousands in cash up for grabs throughout the tournament. But one
thing you can't put a price on is the look on your best mate's face when your
star striker slots his fifth goal past his overworked goalkeeper. So why not
challenge your mates and set up a Friends & Enemies League to maximise
their pain and suffering? (FISO -N.B. Watch
out for the FISO World Cup F&E League coming soon).
And the cost of this virtual trip to Japan? 940 Yen should do the trick (that's
a fiver to you and me). Click here
to register.'
Fantasy
League are also running a special offer - receive FREE SMS updates after
each game phase plus their World Cup Fantasy Form Guide by email if you register
your team before 23:59 (BST) Friday 24th May.
The
Times Fantasy League World Cup 2002
Entry is
just £5 with the competition winner driving off with a £61,000 Maserati
3200GT! Simply select a team of 11 players by choosing a maximum of
only one player from each country taking part in the competition in a 4-4-2
formation (one goalkeeper, four defenders, four midfielders and two forwards).
Once the competition has started, you may make 12 transfers to your team
throughout the whole tournament (a maximum of six per game phase).
FantasyChampions
FantasyChampions
offers real-life performance fantasy football, based on the English Premiership.
In addition, there are Prediction Leagues for the World Cup, UEFA Champions
League, Rugby Six Nations and more to come. Entry to their
competitions is usually between £2 to £5. The season long Premiership Manager
game currently has 79 Managers, with a total prize money of £375.
