Team and Fantasy League Comps are Launched The
Sun's F1 Dream Team 2002 (see newspaper and website later this week
for full details) The
Sun have a certain principle with their Dream Team competitions - make it Simple
to Pay and Play. This concept leads to big entries AND big prizes! This
year's F1 Dream Team is no exception to the rule with a fabulous £50,000 on
offer to the winner! Full
details of the competition will appear in the Sun at the end of this week (there
will be 11 selections of 7 drivers and 4 constructors) but what we've done is
highlight below the new features added to The Sun's F1 Dream Team game:
Fantasy League have teamed up with ITV-F1
and F1 new boys Toyota to bring you a great Fantasy F1 game with the season's
top prize a fab Toyota MR2! Simply select a team of six drivers, one
engine and a set of tyres from the respective selection lists, ensuring that the
total value of these selections does not exceed the quota of $50m. Changes are unlimited for the duration of
the warm-up period, right up until the start of the Brazilian Grand Prix on 31st
March 2002. Only races 3 to 17 count towards the season's Fantasy League F1
championship and the top prize of the sports car. Once the main championship has commenced,
team managers have an opportunity between each race to make up to three changes
to their selections. This may comprise any combination of driver changes,
engine change and a change of tyre choice, so long as no more than three changes
are made in total. Obviously you must still ensure that your selections remain
within the allocated $50m budget. In true Fantasy League tradition, team changes
can be made up to 15 minutes before the start of the race, allowing manager's to
consider driver/car form during qualifying and changes to race conditions. Prizes courtesy of Toyota are also on offer
to winners of each Grand Prix weekend, the warm up period and the top overall
Friends & Enemies league (top 5 teams scores to count). The scoring system needs to be considered
carefully and can be accessed from here.
The aim must surely be to try and pick the winner (driver, engine and tyre) of
each Grand Prix by using the 3 transfers available for each race. Fitting as
many quality drivers into the remaining 5 driver seats whilst staying within
budget is not an easy task and will sort the leaders from those bringing up the
rear a lap behind! The first (warm up) race gets underway on
3rd March with the Australian GP - races 1 and 2 will provide valuable lessons
to do enter soon (unlimited transfers available until the start of race 3). The
entry fee for the ITV-F1 Fantasy Game is £10.00. Interested in talking about tactics or
about constructors/drivers/tyres? Why not use the FISO Formula 1 forum? 2. Hot Topics Hot topics since the last newsletter include

Sunday 5th May! Plans are afoot for an informal get together
for Fantasy Sports fans on the day of the 1,000 Guineas at the Rowley Mile
course at Newmarket on Sunday 5th May! If you are over 18 and would be interested
in coming along (friends welcome too) then please let me know at CK@FISO.co.uk Please
try and email me by 10 February so we can gauge likely numbers by then. If you
have any questions about the event then please just email me. FISO forum link. People that have already expressed an
interest in coming along include representatives from Fantasy League Limited,
The Sun Dream Team, Team Boss and, from the other side of the 'fence', yours
truly, Andy Luckhurst and David Browne. If you have not been to Newmarket Races
before then this would be a wonderful chance to experience a great afternoon
out. The Rowley Mile Course has been home to the first two of the five great
"classic" Races, the One Thousand Guineas and the Two Thousand
Guineas, since 1814 and 1809 respectively. The 2002 1,000 Guineas will take
place in front of the recently built Millennium Grandstand which provides
superb views of the course and surrounding countryside. http://www.newmarketracecourses.co.uk P.S. We've checked that there is no football
scheduled for that day on the Bank Holiday weekend, being the day after the FA
Cup final! Should anyone be unable to make the Sunday then it is likely that a
few people (including me) will also be going on the Saturday 4th May (2,000
Guineas day) so let me know if you would be interested in coming on Saturday
instead. 2. Website Access Speeds -
Roger Wilson FISO's resident IT expert, Roger Wilson,
takes a look at the principles behind internet access speeds and looks at access
times for five of the major fantasy football website: A couple of years ago most of us had the
choice of a 56k modem, or if we were lucky an ISDN line, as a connection to the
internet. Since then technology has progressed rapidly. We now have the
additional choices of Cable Modem and ADSL connections. So
which is the best? Luckily I have access to different connections to the
internet and listed below are the average download speeds attainable:
As
you can see, the cable and ADSL connections are substantially faster than the
modem and ISDN connections. The 'burst' speed is essentially the ceiling on the
data transfer. If
you are not fortunate enough to be able to connect via Cable or ADSL then there
are various courses of action available to you that can help increase the load
speed of your internet browser:
Using a cable
modem I tested five of the major fantasy football websites for access
speed. The results were as follows:
As
you can see from the average refresh time (aimed at checking server speed on the
home page and tested at a time of minimal traffic), there doesn’t seem to be
much difference between them. That is until you dig a little deeper. For these
sites to be interactive they need to be able to upload as well as download.
There have been comments on FISO’s forum regarding the time taken to
process transfers on TFF (Telegraphfantasyfootball.co.uk). The upload speed
for this site is very low compared with the other sites. Therefore the likely
overall speed problem with TFF relates to the upload speed (or server download
speed), not your own computer's download speed! Another
point to note is that the processing (i.e. matching login details to team
details) is performed on the web server and then converted into, and sent in,
HTML format to your browser. At times of heavy access the hosting web servers
will be coping with the processing of queries as well as the download requests,
thus reducing your download and upload speed. Even with ADSL, TFFO can take up
to 30 – 40 seconds to load on a Monday lunch time (when everyone is trying to
find out their score and reducing the download and processing speeds
substantially). As I am sure we are all aware, these sites are always going to
be slow at times of high traffic. I
hope this unveils some of the mysteries of website access speed. If anything is
not clear, please feel free to ask me questions via the FISO forum where I will
try my best to help. Happy surfing! Roger Wilson (Roger@FISO.co.uk) 3. OFL confirms Knockout Schedules The OFL Cup knockout schedule has been

life with stats that reflect their true ability. You have to submit your team
each week via email and liaise with other managers to make those all-important
transfers whilst not getting into debt. So pit your wits against other real
life managers to see who is the best of the best in Kick Off. The UKIFL is a FREE play-by-email (PBEM)
Fantasy Soccer Management game. The UKIFL consists of 20 teams, divided into 2
divisions of 10 teams. Each team will play each other twice per season (home and

developed by Eli Bendersky and Igor Oks. Each week you are required to submit a team
sheet containing your instructions on how you wish your team to play that week.
You can make substitutions, change formation and switch tactics all depending on
the circumstances of the game. Super
