Not live as such yet, as the mirror branding hasn't yet been applied, and there are still inconsistencies between rules and terms on different pages - well it is silentmanager after all. Can only assume that they beat cleverTV to this year's contract after relative success with the william hills racing game that also featured in the mirror.

A point of interest as t and c's stand at the moment, re overseas entries;

5.17 Prizes are only available to residents of the country that the game is promoted within. The Promoter may remove or disqualify any teams that are managed by residents outside of the promotion territory. Proof of identification and/or residence may be required. Allocation and fulfilment of all prizes is at the discretion of the Promoter, and no discussion will be entered into regarding prizes.

I am astonished they have passed this game to Silent Manager.

In essence the game looks like it is the same as the Maxis Game that was run last year except there are 11 players rather than 15. I finished top 20 overall in that game (Frankie Frog won it) but the whole experience was absolutely joyless for the following reasons:

The SM site maintenance / application of rules can be eratic.
(eg. Last year the site went down before the transfer window and extra transfers were given to everyone - so some teams got extra transfers)

The SM support is patchy

The game interface is clunky

The team selection (3 players per team max) limits choices / transfers

Formation rules so restrictive (the formation cannot be changed after team has been selected)

Captain set for the week on Friday evening

I believe this is not a way to attract the mass take up that YTM could have attracted with the changes that the Sun have implemented. In my opinion this is a big mistake.

This can't be the new game. You guys are taking the mickey. Even my 12yo nephew could design a web page better than that. The idea of having a manager and a captain in YTM gave it away. Not to mention the dubious TOC's. Nice try guys, but I'm not biting. Which one of you jokers thought this one up

A manager and captain in YTM. I nearly wet myself laughing.

Looks to be standard format for the sm games; not clear as yet if a manager is or isn't included (mentioned on some pages, not others), likewise different budgets mentioned on different pages. Good news for those of us used to sm games and their quirks - a bit tricky for others, and possibly very bad news for overseas players. The site still has lots of ironing out to do - most of it indicates that it's £5 per team (or realistically, £8 with transfers included), but the tag for the link would indicate that it's free to play - possible that the mirror hasn't decided finally, and decision might be swayed by the sun's choice of free entry. Depends what they want - just to raise enough income to pay for the game, or go the free route, and build up website hits.

removing the prefix "men." you get a very slightly different look to the site, especially the team page , shows pricing etc

If this is the new YTM then looking at the t & C's

5.17 Prizes are only available to residents of the country that the game is promoted within. Then it looks like this game is only open to UK residents this year unless "The Mirror" has foreign papers 8-)

if anybody sets up a league i'd be up for this.. my performance pay has its use)

...my suggestion is to wait and see until YTM is officially launched.

If they are going to exclude overseas residents, or prevent them from receiving prizes, I would suggest that - like the Telegraph, Mail, Sun, etc - they are far more likely to specify the exact countries that are included rather than use the ill-drafted clause quoted above.

I would say the T&C's look pretty definite. People are allowed to play from overseas they ould just be allowed to claim any of the prize money.

Once Dreamteam went this way then it was only a matter of time before the smaller fantasy games followed suit.

Presumably though , you can buy the Mirror in Spain , and other other European countries , and possibly USA and the likes of Egypt , so surely they are then actively "promoting" the game in that country ( assuming they don't replace the fantasy page with a "local" ad) ?

Or , alternatively, what determines what constitutes "a country they are promoting in" when the page is on the internet in all countries ( bar those that ban gambling) . I'm not a lawyer , but to me the game is being "promoted in" any country that you can access the internet page in ?

I think the key wording is "Promotion territory".
The Promotion territory is the UK as it is a UK based fantasy games.

I can access plenty of other games worldwide using the internet.

Fantasy NFL and Baseball in the USA, but the terms on these games have the same wording "Promotion territory" ie USA with prizes only to be claimed by US citizens however they have no problems at all with non US citizens spending money to play the game (more money in coffers) only with them winning prizes.

The Sun Dreamteam also sayes that citizens from other countries can play the game but they ten state they will not be eligible for any prize monies.

I suspect YTM will be the same this year.

@achilles - the terms as currently stated are a cut and paste of standard silentmanager terms. They will be up to mirrorgroup to amend as and how they see fit, and the wording will (probably) be changed before game launch - hopefully to clarify one way or the other. And you'll have found reference to this in the second post in this thread - so you really didn't need to copy it out again.

@merlinsapprentice - good spot; at least someone at sm is actually doing some work on the pages; they can now spell "lucky" correctly, and someone has changed mention of the budget to £100m, so you won't have to buy a manager (a pity i think, i've always liked this as an extra quirk about sm games). But then lower down the page it still refers to £125m, so lots of detail still to go through.

One clear change is that the prices have "dumbed down" compared to the standard sm type game - for example the cheapest striker in sm would normally be £10m, but here there's a whole raft of strikers down to £7.4m - and there are comparable cheapies in other positions; this has definitely changed since the draft site was first up last week, (and another game at something like "my 11 premier") so is unlikely to be an accident.

When on earth is this game going to go live?
If they charge 8 quid per team and don't release the game soon then no one will be playing it this year.

Source?

I was expecting a launch this Saturday. Anytime transfers would take YTM too close to TFF for my liking.

Its in the "Daily Mirror" today, backpage of a middle section page "50 most influential footballers in the Premier league"

Has the following on the back page of this pullout

You the manager

Over 2000 ways to win

New and improved scoring system

New Wallett system means you can load up your account and recieve your winnings easily

Now use your transfers when you want, even on game day.

!50,000 is the prize money given in the title 150,000 You the manager.

For what is worth on the back page is a picture of John Terry with the price 15M and Andy Carroll priced at 17M

Not sure what I make of these changes yet

There'd probably be better to of gone for the gap in the market...3 transfer windows.Though most who played it would of settled for no change except £5 per team with free transfers plus releasing it earlier to catch the early interest. It's even more similar to telegraph if they have the same number of transfers as last year.

I see no difference now to TFF
30 transfers, use whenever you want to and if the Live website is correct 8 pound per team with free transfers or 5 pound with no transfers.

Considering TFF are charging 25pounds for 12 teams this, at the YTM rate I would get 3 teams for 24pounds.

If the pricing is correct then I may be giving up YTM this year to concentrate on TFF :(

T and C's online indicating that entry open from this wednesday - and here's something relevant re overseas entries;

Entrants must be aged 18 years or over at the time of registration. Failure to observe this will deem any winning entry invalid and prizes will be forfeited. The Game is intended for play only within the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland and is governed by English law.

Plenty more here;

That looks correct.
Top prize is 50K which is the same as TFF.
8 pound per team which as I said earlier works out at 24quid for 3 teams compared to TFF 12 teams for 25quid.
Does'nt take a genius to work out it is no longer value for money.

Also the weekly prize, the top75 teams get 5 pound credit,
so you spend 8quid on a team to win this prize and get in the top 75 and you are rewarded with 5 pounds

Why on earth would you wreck a totally good game like YTM and make it into this shambles??

Reading the WHOLE eligibility paragraph from that link - NOTHING has changed since last season...

Quote:

The Game is intended for play only within the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland and is governed by English law. Each entrant must ensure that his or her participation in the Game is lawful in accordance with the laws of the country of which he or she is a citizen and/or resides, and/or happens to be at the time his entry is made. Neither the Promoter nor its servants or agents or the Publisher shall be taken to make any representations, express or implied, as to the lawfulness of any entrant's participation. Void in all U.S. Territories (e.g. Guam and Puerto Rico) and where prohibited by law. Residents of North Dakota, Connecticut, Minnesota, Maryland, Colorado, Montana, Vermont, Louisiana, Arizona, Florida and the province of Quebec may play, but WILL NOT be eligible to win or receive prizes.

Somebody at the Mirror awards the contract. He probably knows dipshit about fantasy football or YTM for that matter. He listens to the speel from SM and sees they're willing to do it cheaper. All he's capable of seeing is the figures put in front of him from the saleman for SM, who must be a great bullshitter. Probably the same type of character as the muppet who's awarding the contract. Don't assume people in power are competant. Most of them are there because of their social skills and ability to blow smoke up your ass. We can all see how that the game has been ruined over the years. It's not exactly rocket science. This is just the final nail.

Take advantage of the special offers  - no one needs to pay 8 quid a team.

The Prize Pool is still way better than TFF - with about 25% of the entrants and the new flatter structure (20k 2nd prize and 10k 3rd prize) makes the TFF offering look like a complete joke.

Biggest change to the rules so far (nothing on the scoring system in that link) looks to be a choice of formations (4-3-3, 4-4-2, 5-3-2 or 3-5-2) - plus, looking at the 'player' list - a manger. ...

or maybe not - other links show that scoring system is quite different, but maybe wait until the official launch!
