Hey - I'm guessing most of you guys are aware of this site, what do you think of the projections?

I'm looking to pick a team for 3 weeks then chance my wildcard, it's really useful for this as you can focus on certain gameweeks.

I'm only getting 440.8 points in the first 10 weeks...

Yeah - I'm hoping the figures quoted are worst case.
You've gotta admit that the slick website does soften the blow a little tho!

Yeah, someone's spent some time on it. It's a nifty idea actually. May come in useful.

When i get chance I'll have a play around and see what the best first 3 game combo is.

I had my team sort of finalised (classic fantasy statement) but this has now put me in turmoil.

Very good idea of a website, but having inputed my team into it, it would appear that they aren't expecting

Villa
Man Utd
Chelsea
Fulham
or Man City

To keep a clean sheet in the first 10 game weeks!

Do they say anywhere how they produce their predictions. I'm a bit jubious - if Gyan scores more points in the first ten gameweeks than bent and suarez I will eat my hat. I do not own hat at the moment actually.

Looks a decent extra reference mind.

I won't be using it for any foundation of my team whatsoever, yet I am very curious if they live up to their scores.

Really don't understand how they can calculate that information!

If it works though could be amazing :o

So apparently, none of Stoke, Newcastle, Wigan, Villa or QPR will keep a single clean sheet in the 1st 10 weeks.

9/10 for effort, but not for me.

I havent really put too much time into looking at the site.

but isnt it just giving you what it considers the median amount of predicted points? So when it says 3.12 points for Kompany, it is saying that Man City has a 52% chance of keeping a clean sheet (ignoring bonus, YC, etc).

So while there are no outright scores of 6 points for the defenders, there are also no outright scores of 1 or 2.

it's just odds and averages.

Just because it doesn't concur with your opinions doesn't make it rubbish. Someone has put a lot of effort into calculating those stats, presenting the information in a neat UI and making it public so you should show a little respect for that whether you agree with the conclusions or not.

Obviously they are predictions based on assumptions, and some of those assumptions (opposition strength being the hardest thing to gauge pre-season) will be wrong so I'm not going to pick my team by it, but it is all useful extra information.

Just seeing Gyan rated so highly made me check the fixture list and his scoring record again just to make sure I hadn't missed something.

Yeah I agree.
Dismissing something as just "rubbish" can be more than a little insulting. You don't like it then just move on.

It has Rafa getting 0.52 less than Rio in each game, so I would expect to pick up a few there

Damn you, Blahblah.

For some reason Downing's projected points haul is really low for the 1st 10 weeks. Odd.

That was my first thought, but they are not that bad.

MOD EDIT: Sorry but no fixture lists can be posted as DataCo (who own the lists) can close us down for doing it. They are total *******

Especially when Arsenal must have a CL Qualifier around that time?

Maybe the tool uses last season's games? Was it the beachball last season? Did they get tonked at Stoke?

You might be right, they got beaten 2-0 at Stoke last season, and by the same score at Goodison. Giving last season's results such a weighting must cast doubt on the predictive capacity of the site. It's a pity the don't spell out in more detail how the ratings are arrived at.

I don't think last seasons results should be ignored, but their weighting seems disproportionate.

I dread to think what they are doing with the promoted sides

OUR METHODS
At ratemyteam we:
- write computer programmes to analyse vast amounts of data
- scrutinise the results for any factors we may have missed
- thoroughly research team news/information from the internet
- combine these together to give expected points for each player, each week
- finally use up-to-date market opinions to shift our opinions closer to the market

With the line-ups so uncertain it is like pi55ing into the wind.

Interesting. Its telling me that I'd be much better off with Riise & Taarbt tham my current pencilled in players Rafael & Benayoun. It also much prefers Grant Holt to Fulhams Andy Johnston.

Do we agree??

430.93 absolute rubbish. But will be interesting to see how close they are to that total on my team.

Some of you are taking it too much to heart. No one can statistically map how a player is going to perform. If people could do that, I wouldn't bother watching sport.

This is a rough guide, and it's a valuable tool to perhaps help you decide between two players. No more than that.

I don't think we're taking it to heart, more questioning the accuracy of the calculations, which is essential if the site is to be used to decide between players.
