Ay up.

The missus is having her wisdom teeth pulled on Thursday (4 of them). Not sure if she is going under local or general anasthetic, but could someone please give me experience of the recovery time!!

She is supposed to be working Friday night but has heard various rumours about needing anything from 1 day to 2 weeks to recover.

Thoughts appreciated!!

TT

No personal experience but a friend's were growing awkward and they had to break her jaw to get them out. She was not fit to work for at least a couple of weeks. I've heard of others having them cut out without the jaw being broken.

Hope she has no complications.

When I had mine out, I had all 4 taken at once. I was off work for 2 weeks.

However, it would appear that I had a bit of a trickier time of it, as when they took mine out they had quite a lot of trouble and had to break them as opposed to just taking them out whole. If she has them taken out cleanly then she could be laid up for a lot less time.

Is your Mrs a smoker? As when I had mine taken out I smoked and wasn't allowed to smoke for a whole day!!!

all depends on how bad the problem is and the person. Mine were growing sideways under the skin and would have ended up burrowing into my jaw had they not been spotted in time. Had them out in hospital on an overnight stay under general anaesthetic. Yet next morning I was sticking down a full English breakfast, whereas a lot of people (all in with the same problem) were having problems drinking a cup of tea. Most of them complained of a sore throat but mine wasn't too bad. Had to gargle with salt water a few times a day for about a week then I was ok.

Wont lie to you....

it was probably the worst experience of pain i have had. I have has all 4 out on seperate occassions. The top 2 were fine and i really didnt need any recovery time.

The bottom 2 however, ouch!!!!!!

They were growing side ways which makes it more difficult to remove and therefore more painful. Recovery time per bottom wisdom tooth was approx 3/4 days before i was pain free. Having all 4 removed at once is likely to increase that though.

Despite the pain, looking back i would have preferred to had them all out at once so that i didnt have to experience the pain on several occassions.

good luck

Thank you gents.

Not great news, it seems. I very much doubt she'll be working on Friday, so better get that sorted out!! Also, I better make sure I am working so I don't have to play nurse!!

Keep those stories coming. Interesting that there are still various recovery times.

Get a second opinion.

My dentist advised me to have one taken out last year. When I went to see a second dentist (who was due to take it out) for a consultation he said it was totally unecessary and a bit of scalpel work on my gum later I was OK. I was slightly relieved.....
