With the shocking announcement that The Sun Dreamteam will be limited to UK residents only this year (and the sun made a lot of money from non UK residents playing this game), how many people are expecting YTM to follow suit and limit YTM to UK residents only this year as well?

I suspect that some legal issue has arisen (no idea what) but if The Sun are making dreamteam a UK residents game only this must have ramifications on YTM.

Unlikely, I think, as a significant percentage of YTM entries are from outside of the UK and - to the best of my knowledge - there has been no change to the relevant UK Gambling  Legislation in the past year.

After the changes to SDT, YTM now has a huge opportunity to regain some market share - if they are able to react quickly enough to what The Sun has done.

Just wondering AK, why would "The Sun" have made this move. The group in charge of "The Sun" do like to make money even more than the Mirror group so something must have made them make this move.

Over 500,000 people entered Dreamteam last year where 50,000 entered YTM,

I think when YTM is released this week that this will also revert to UK only entry.

My guess is that The Sun are reacting to the problems caused by one large overseas-based syndicate which effectively ruined their Mini-League competition and Weekend games last season. Internet gaming/gambling law basically centres around the law in the country of the particpant; so, although there is nothing illegal about entrants from countries where gambling on overseas web sites is not expressly prohibited, it is hard to regulate overseas players. Furthermore, there was a lot of speculation that the Tam syndicate had help from within SDT and the last thing that News International currently needs is another scandal.

Last year's YTM entry, including the 2nd half game, was actually 32,000. IMHO, they simply cannot risk another significant drop by losing their substantial overseas market - unless they want to run a 10 grand (entries and prize money) game.

what. Only UK citizens? You cannot be serious!

Edit: Phew. You nearly gave me a damn heart attack there Achilles. I just cheked the TOC's, it includes ROI too. I was about to blow a fuse and go off on a major rant there

The issue of overseas entrants has been discussed on fiso endlessly in the past - perhaps Achilles should do a bit of a search to reduce his level of ignorance.

There is nothing inherently illegal with games organisers allowing contestants from most countries, although it would be illegal for people from many US states and from countries where internet gambling is illegal to play. This is primarily, but not exclusively, middle eastern countries, and I think includes Hong Kong.

Many games organisers restrict the game to UK and Irish participants to make life easy for themselves, not having to vet overseas entries etc. Up until now the Sun has allowed worldwide entries, but in order to get rid of their recent "problem", it seems that they have taken the line of least resistance, rather than allowing overseas entries from residents of countries where there is no legal barrier to their entering FF games.

However it does seem strange that Irish entries are allowed. Surely in terms of EU legislation you can't allow residents of one non home country to participate if residents of other EU countries can't play. It reeks of discrimination!!!!!!! I'd be interested to know if it is even legal.

I'm sure that Rui's brief will be on to that, if YTM goes down the UK and Ireland only route to oblivion.

There are a lot of genuine ff players from abroad, many can be spotted on fiso. Why do the innocent always get punished for the crimes of the few?

Many Fantasy games are restricted to UK & ROI residents with some restricted to Australia, or Asian countries only. Some will let you play but not for prizes (mainly free entry) if you are not UK.

Personally if YTM did become limited to UK residents only, I would find this a good move. How often have you checked the league tables to find a non UK person winning the monthly prizes, even on a few occasions gaining most of the money end of season.

Over countries hold fantasy games so in my view a uK fantasy game should be for UK residents only and ie French fantasy games for the French only and Greek fantasy games for the Greek only (Just 2 countries picked by ramdom)

Guys and Gals.. i am loving the discussion here about gambling, gaming and oversea residents etc..
i certainly would want to know why there appears to be an increasing restriction on non-uk residents.. playing fantasy football.. where there appears to be money involved? ( winnings etc)

Obviously, you're welcome to your opinion - but I'd have to say that you're no loss to the Diplomatic Service, Achiles74.

Somewhat ironic that SDT has banned overseas managers on the day that the Australian-born, US citizen who heads the Sun's parent parent company files into England to sort out the crisis in the UK arm of his media empire.

Ever heard of the concept of globlisation, little Welshman?

Score prediction games for Football and Rugby - plus fantasy rugby but I really don't think that particular sport lends itself well to Fantasy games.

Anyway, I will continue to play a few of the English games - on behalf of UK-based friends.

Good luck if you think that removing overseas entrants will increase your chances of winning YTM, Achiles74.

I'm hoping they will make it a Welsh only fantasy game, limited to people born in 1974 and signed up members of mountain rescue.

That may help me win the game :D :D :D

I do not think the bad publicity is worth it to the papers at the moment which is why they are changing the legal terms.

Oh dear, that all sounds familiar to me and others!
Telegraph Squad Manager had that rule introduced years ago.
I find that a silly, bad and iditoc move!Still living on an island?
Everything is global, only ff is national

That leaves me with FISODAS in the near future

Well, Achilles, take my advice and stay clear of the Bangor City defence, they leak too many. There is a couple of TNS midfielders who are enablers. Stay clear of Thursdays as well.

If you have a free team and no Transfers, I would say you are just wasting your time, don't even bother. That's a con.How can you play FF with no transfers.
