Do we think there could be any postponements in the EPL this weekend?

We're forecast several inches of snow over London and the South tonight and through Friday. Arsenal postponed their Tuesday game earlier this week in similar circumstances, their reason not being the pitch but frozen approaches to the stadium being a safety hazard to spectators.

My guess is that all EPL games will survive the weather but if any is going to go, I would vote for Portsmouth (frozen pitch), and at a stretch Chelsea (stadium approaches/possible lack of public transport). Any games on Sunday should be OK IMO, such as the North London derby, because they will have a good run of clear weather beforehand.

The Times predicts fixture disruption in the Premier League but can't come up with any specific concerns:
Quote:
Football is bracing itself for a weekend of disruption after heavy snow was forecast to fall across much of England today. All Barclays Premier League clubs except Fulham and Portsmouth have undersoil heating at their grounds, but it is not the state of pitches that is causing most concern.

Arsenal’s FA Cup fourth-round replay against Cardiff City on Tuesday was called off because of the state of the roads and pavements around the Emirates Stadium and there are fears that it will be too dangerous for fans to travel to matches this weekend.

Portsmouth are confident that their televised Premier League match against Liverpool will go ahead at 5.30pm tomorrow as long as the South Coast is not hit by heavy snow. The Fratton Park pitch has been covered and heated with hot air all week to make sure that it is playable. Portsmouth’s match against Manchester City last month was called off when temperatures fell to minus 7C (20F). “We have taken every measure possible,” Portsmouth said. “Hopefully, there won’t be any problems.”

Looking at the road cameras in the Chelsea area, there's no snow visible at all right now. Outside my window, a mile or two west from Tottenham's ground, there's a mild smattering of snow. We're expecting a few more cm during the day but I don't think it'll be a problem.

Snow has been patchy in the south and east. Some local problems where it was heavy but I can't see it still being an issue (on its own) tomorrow.

Supposed to be cold again tonight but dry and maybe even sunny on saturday.

Unlike the state of London on Monday night (when Arsenal announced their postponement), the councils have had a week to clear roads and approaches
to grounds.

The main snow last night fell in the M4 corridor and further West
(where there are no Premier League clubs)

The only games which will now suffer are as a result of Friday nights
forecast of between minus 3 and minus 6

If a club has undersoil heating(and it works) they should have no
problem with 3pm games

Pompey is an evening game though so could have different problems

According to the BBC website you can add:

Hereford v Brighton (League 1)

Cardiff have to be looking at serious congestion now, especially if they upset the odds on Monday week.

Both the Barclays Premier League and Liverpool have been in touch with Portsmouth regarding the fixture and after taking into account the current weather conditions the game looks set to go-ahead as scheduled, with pitch protection now in place.

ALBION can confirm today's Barclays Premier League home clash with Newcastle will go-ahead (ko 3pm).

Only a severe deterioration in overnight weather conditions could have put the game in doubt and, although temperatures dropped below zero, there was no further snowfall at the stadium. The ground's undersoil heating has made the pitch perfectly playable and no inspection is planned.
