On N'Zogbia
"He's such a great player and we are such a small club sometimes we don't go together," Whelan added.

FS Record: Won TSO £10 comp 2008, retained title in 2009. FPL: 96th, 19th.
Any guesses on starting line up from Wigan fans? I'm interested in Thomas from an FPL point of view, if he is likely to start.

Will post a predicted starting Xi nearer the season start. I think Thomas will be in and out of the team, I'd look at other options personally.

Probably a really dumb question, but I've search FISO and checked the Wigan official club site and am still none the wiser. How come Alcarez hasn't featured at all in the final two pre-season games (not even on the bench)? He's not showing anywhere as injured. I have him in my team currently as a cheap enabler, almost guaranteed to start.... but sounds like this may not be the case? :?

Probably rested after Copa America, same as Hugo Rodallega

Sounds like they played well against Villareal. I may have a punt on one or two of these guys. Anyone got a good feeling for the starting XI. I'm guessing it will mirror the team that started on Sunday :-

Al Habsi
Caldwell
Figueroa
Lopez
Boyce
McCarthy
Watson
Diame
Gomez
Moses
Di Santo

I'm not a big Wigan fan so I am happy to stand corrected on this one...

Could you tell the situation with Hugo Rodallega? What are the chances of him playing this week?

Be warned I don't usually get these spot on!!!!

My predicted line-up Vs Norwich will go for:

--------------Al-Habsi

Boyce Caldwell Alcaraz+ Figueroa

---------Watson Diame

----Moses McCarthy* Rodallega

-------------Di Santo^

+Lopez if Alcaraz continues to be rested after Copa America
*McArthur / Jones / Gomez if McCarthy unfit, really don't know.
^Di Santo will probably get the nod over Sammon

Have now seen 3 Premier League Guides (Daily Mail / BBC Website & 1 other) giving the predictions for the forthcoming Season.

Wigan are down in these guider to finish 20th, 20th and 20th. If the press could give us 21st or 22nd place as a prediction, I'm sure the they would.

Whilst we will probably finish bottom 6, are Wigan signifcntly worse than

QPR, Norwich, Swansea, Wolves or even Blackburn/Newcastle.

Bookies odds have us down to finish 17th on average, so why do the press have us down to finish 20th every Season. (Perhaps they start at A and work to W and realise they have not given 20th to anyone yet)

Anyway, little rant over.

mod edit - this post and a couple of others have been merged from a separate thread

Caldwell, Boyce and Figueroa are nailed on though? Alcaraz starts if rested enough (so probably worth avoiding - current fpl ownership 9.3%   )

Caldwell just 0.3% - only picked up 40pts last season :?
Boyce played even less, currently 0.2% - 55pts
Figueroa 2.7% ownership. Stung me last season being subbed a couple of times.

All £4.5m (in fpl). One is worth being an enabler - but who??

Caldwell had a couple of injury lay offs last season - he should be a regular. Alcaraz is a key defender so he'll be brought in at the earliest opportunity.
Should be ok with Figgy. Not sure Boyce will hold down the rightback slot season long

The other 3 available (on fpl) are Stam, Gohouri (sp?) and Lopez. As long as you're sure (well, relatively sure) none of those will start at CB ahead of Caldwell, then my decision is made!!

Previewing the game itself the Gaffer revealed there are still concerns over James McCarthy's fitness after the midfielder picked up an ankle injury in last weekend's final pre-season games against Villarreal:

"James is the real worry; his challenge against Villarreal was an unfortunate moment," said Martinez.

"At the moment it seems unlikely he'll be able to make the squad to take on Norwich this weekend, but I don't think it'll be a long-term concern which is good news.

"We'll help him build his fitness back up as soon as possible but at the moment it's unlikely he'll make Saturday."
