Some good movies there.
You are clearly a Star Wars fan!
Surprised to see no Space Odeyssey listed and where is Lock,Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Pulp Fiction?

 :D

You've got some good films in there, but a strange list indeed, particularly the ordering!

You're obviously a Star Wars fan, but strangely you've ranked arguably the best of the series (Empire) the lowest :? . I enjoyed the original 3 Star Wars films but there's no way that the more recent 3 should be top of any list. And I didn't even know that there was a 7th Star Wars film (Clone Wars), which is apparently the 35th best film of all time, so thanks for making me aware of that at least. :D

I'm assuming that you must be quite young as most of the films in your list are fairly recent with the exception of Ben Hur at number 7

Off the top of my head here are a 20 classic films (in no particular order) that I don't think you've included (apologies if I missed any of them) but would definitely be in my top 100 list.

2001 a Space Odysee (particularly surprised you didn't have this as you seem to be a sci-fi fan)
The Godfather
The Godfather 2
Goodfellas
Taxi Driver
Jaws
Psycho
Silence of the Lambs
The Shining
One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest
The Graduate
Braveheart
Platoon
Pulp Fiction
Shrek
King Kong (original)
The Wizard of Oz
Life of Brian
Trainspotting
Slumdog Millionaire

They think it's all Yoda. It is now!

Regarding my ordering of the star wars films I think star wars is at its best when all is cheerful and light and things are going well for the goodies! I rate the new films highly mainly because the sword fight are finally at proper speed because they are not all be fought by kids and old men. The lack of big space battles in the news films are disapointing though. Greatest Star Wars moment are the assult on the 2nd death star and the lightsabre fight between Yoda and Dooku

I had to restrain myself not to have Ewoks Caravan of Courage or The Star Wars Holiday Special on the list.

2001 - don't understand why this is so highly rated. Not a lot happens
The Godfather and The Godfather 2 - I don't normally enjoy gangster films or 18 certificates but these come so highly reccommended I must get around to watching them.
Jaws - Good, but not top 100.
Psycho - Ok but humourless
Silence of the Lambs/The Shining/Goodfellas/Taxi Driver/Trainspotting - I don't watch a lot of 18s, don't usually enjoy them.
One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest - never heard of it!
The Graduate - Very disappointing
Braveheart - Superb, in top 110
Platoon - don't watch war movies much but might give it a go
Pulp Fiction - not a Tarantino fan but you lot seem to think I should see this!
Shrek - It's OK
King Kong (original) - dreadful FX, sorry no extra marks for being really old :)
The Wizard of Oz/Life of Brian - Good but not great
Slumdog Millionaire - First half would be in the top 100, second half is naff.

Whatever - there are some great films in your list, but that's hardly surprising, since any list of 100 films is likely to throw up some great films. Given that you're only 30, and you've never heard of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, suggests to me that Merlins Apprentice may be right - that you've seen 100 films, or let's say 150, and you've now put the best of them in order. For that reason I think very long lists of favourites are pretty meaningless. A Top 10 would tell us more about you and your tastes.

But if we look at your Top 10, six of them are the Star Wars franchise, which to me suggests a lack of discrimination. It's a bit like asking someone to list their Top 10 football players of all time, and their list contains six Everton players. So I'm guessing you're more of a Star Wars fan than a film connoisseur, as such (especially as you say "I don't watch a lot of 18s", which artificially cuts you off from many great films that most unflinchingly confront the extremes of human experience). There's nothing wrong with that, of course - I suspect there are only one or two real film connoisseurs on this forum (and I'm not one of them).

I'm sure if I posted my Top 100 someone else would pull it apart!

Agree with above, your list reads like the first one hundred films that you've seen in order of merit.

The following selections do make me consider the possibility that your original post is simply a wind up;

28. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
35. Star Wars: The Clone Wars
42. The Neverending Story
46. The Matrix Reloaded
51. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
54. National Treasure
59. The Village
60. Bruce Almighty
68. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
69. Star Trek: Nemesis
74. Alien vs. Predator
77. Final Destination
79. Final Destination 2
85. Scream 3
86. Scream 2
87. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
90. I Am Legend
94. National Treasure: Book of Secrets
95. The Happening
99. Robin Hood Prince of Thieves

In Whatever's support - the only thing I've learned from the Movies world cup is that everyone else's opinions on films are wrong :P

if you liked I am legend you should watch 28 days later.
if you liked neverendingstory you should watch The Princess Bride.
if you liked The dark knight you should watch Batman Begins
Everyone should watch Stand by me. 8-)

Better not post your top 100 then  . I loved 'The Village' right up to the moment that the 'twist' was revealed, everything after that seemed like a real waste of what had gone before IMO.

'The Village' averages 6.6 on IMDb by the way, which would suggest that it's a bit of an 'acquired' taste at best (and probably wouldn't make most people's top 100). By the by I haven't actually seen the other M. Night Shyamalan flick that was highlighted in my previous post ('The Happening') but as it's been pretty much universally slated (Whatever's top 100 list is the first positive mention I've ever seen it receive) and only averages 5.2 on IMDb I feel pretty comfortable stating that it shouldn't get anywhere near a top 100 list (unless of course it's a list of the worst 100 flicks made in the last ten years  )...

Barry - It's annoying when you see films that you think are brilliant get knocked out in the early rounds, but if we all liked the same films it would be very boring.

Razorback - the twist in The Village was silly and really let it down, but there was enough in the film as a whole to make it enjoyable and definitely worth watching.

Most of the time that has happened simply because not a lot of people have seen them or the movies in question have been up against some stiff competition (the MWC category format wouldn't have worked IMO if we were trying to identify FISO's top 100 flicks).

But you just have to accept that on some occasions you see something special in a particular movie that the majority of others can't. As you say it would be extremely boring if we all liked exactly the same things.

If the first half of that movie hadn't been as good as it was, it would have be a lot easier to accept the second half. Personally I thought that the twist was weak, tasteless and slightly offensive to the audience, had I gone to the cinema to see it I would have given serious consideration to asking for a refund...

Assuming the list is genuine then kudos to Whatever for posting it 8-) and I doubt that any of us could post a top 100 list without others being able to pick holes in it.

P.S Am I wrong to think that due to the high number of boxed sets in this list that Whatever's been taking advantage of the discounted DVD prices available at HMV, Amazon & Play :?:  ...

I'm not sure I could list a top 100.

I often watch films that I've seen before, and nearly always wonder why I thought it so good before or even find myself liking something that I'd dismissed previously. Today's top 100 would probably only contain 75 of last year's.

Recently, I saw American Beauty again after thinking it rather cliched and rather mainstream. This time I loved it (or at least the first hour), I missed the brilliant writing, camerawork and acting before. Maybe I've just matured as a viewer, or maybe I was pissed when I saw it last!!

That said, I've seen about 75 of Whatever's list and would probably have 10 of them in my 100 (this year)!

I totally agree with what Spencer says about the difficulty of compiling lists

I too thought American Beauty was even better the second time I saw it. Other films work the other way: I saw Badlands for the second time recently and wondered why I'd thought it was so brilliant (although it's still a very good film).

American Beauty would definitely be in my Top 10, but then so too would about 50 other films

whateever, you need a couple of cinema classics in there, the third man a black and white frenchy, then once you are percieved as a cinema buff, I'm sure everyone will be more forgiving

Merlins Apprentice may be right - that you've seen 100 films, or let's say 150, and you've now put the best of them in order.

I must have seen at least a couple of new films a week for the last 15 or 20 years. What's that? 1500? I must have more than 150 on video recorded off the TV!

But if we look at your Top 10, six of them are the Star Wars franchise, which to me suggests a lack of discrimination.

Yes, I'm biassed towards Star Wars films particually A New Hope hundreds of times as a used to get up at 6AM often to watch it when I was at primary school.

I'm also biassed towards films with Christian allegory. e.g. Star Wars, Ben Hur, Dark City, Lord of the Rings, The Matrix(es), The Miracle Maker, The Chronicles of Narnia, Bruce Almighty, Signs, Finding Nemo

And biassed against films with graphic violence or sex if I think they are not necessary to the film.

So I'm guessing you're more of a Star Wars fan than a film connoisseur,

Definatly. I had great fun compiling that list, but as you have shown it is extremely subjective based on nothing but what I like to watch. I recognise the moviemaking quality of say The Dark Knight is brilliant but I just didn't enjoy the story enough to rate it higher.

(especially as you say "I don't watch a lot of 18s", which artificially cuts you off from many great films that most unflinchingly confront the extremes of human experience)

Cut off, sure, but not artificially. I have watched enough 18 films to know that I usually do not enjoy them and would rather watch something else. Seven is a prime example. I watched that and could see why it came so highly reccommended but films about serial killers just don't grab me. :)
