7 crime films, 2 fantasies and a sci fi. Yet another FISO member who loves crime fiction. Don't see the attraction of it myself. I want the goodies to win and the baddies to lose, like in return of the jedi. :) Interesting that you went for "Pirates of the Carribean" and "Lord of the Rings" as sets of films yet you specify Episode V of Star Wars.

I like it bloggie, a nice diverse set of films there.

I tried to record Planet of the Apes the other day but I did not have a good reception of Film 4. :(

This thread got me wondering whether i could remember 100 films, let alone rank them.

Just tried using IMDB's Top 250 films as a prompt.
I found about 50 films that I like in that list.
Perhaps half a dozen more if I went through it again.

But it did help remind me of some other films though that didnt make their top 250, but would make my favourites list (in no particular order);

Ferris Buellers Day Off
The Goonies
True Romance
Human Traffic
Cable Guy
Beautiful Mind
In the Name of the Father
Carlito's Way
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
House of Flying Daggers
Basketball Diaries
Rocky II
Rocky III
Rocky IV
Awakenings
Predator
Total Recall
5th Element
Sleepers
Kalifornia
Vanilla Sky
Being John Malkovich
Cape Fear
The Beach
Withnail and I

I guess if i went and looked at my DVD's there will be other ones ive forgotten.

Hawk the Slayer and Condorman were two films I remember very fondly (from childhood). Having made the mistake of watching them again in more recent years; they were horrificly bad. Never go back. Never go back.

That said, recently watched Willy Wonker (original) and Goonies - both still great films.

How has Watchman not even got one mention in this thread so far. I watched it recently and it has gone into my list at number 46. A great exploration of a set of superhero's that were all very human, making mistakes, using violence to gain power, lustful, full of anger, seeking revenge.

So back to the films that FISO reccomended I should watch

Princess Bride
The Godfather
The Godfather part 2
Pulp Fiction
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Chinatown
The Silence of the Lambs
City of God
The Usual Suspects
The Searchers

The Searchers. I just don't like westerns, not any of them. Having said that this was excellent. For a western. Beautifully shot and a cleverly told story.

Just The Usual Suspects to go. I suspect I shall not rate it highly but we shall see.

I don't think Watchmen's a brilliant film, but it is a brilliant graphic novel, far more worthy of your time:

I'm stunned. Not only is there another 'Popsicle' fan in the UK, there's another one on FISO! I prefer Private Popsicle, but it wouldn't be anywhere near my top 100...(which would start with An American Werewolf in London in case you care to know).

Hi Whatever, wondered when you might kick this off again.

Been a while working through that list! Quote from Dec '09.....

I await your view on The Usual Suspects

Buy/rent /download it - I will be surprised if you dont rate it. Superb film IMO.

Although you have mentioned crime drama is not your thing. That is what it is.

A couple of crackers I saw recently during Film 4's 'Films to see before you die' season....
IP Man
Ip Man 2

Anyone else seen these ? I downloaded them after watching only to discover I had got the dubbed versions  - awful, cant stand foreign language films dubbed into English.

The Usual Suspects is absolutely brilliant (and a name I've used for my fantasy teams, by the way).

If you don't like it, watch it again. And again. etc
