Radish :!:

You just as well put Evostick down as a voting option who puts radish in an omelette?

Strong cheese is a no no in an omelette - it just tastes of cheese - now dont get me wrong I love cheese - but an omelette is quite a delicate flavour and if is has to be cheese it needs a mild feta not a strong cheddar.

Personally I quite like it plain with some black pepper maybe - if you need ham or, god forbid, radish, why not just put them on the plate separately. An overloaded omelette is a bad omelette.

It would be like making a yorkshire pudding and saying well I like cheese and I like wine - I will put them in - no eat your yorkshire pudding cut your bit of cheese off and have a glass of wine - mixing them together does not make it taste better.

I don't actually put radish in mine.

Was just scratching my head for other options and was mentally undressing our fridge at home :D

Same goes for the fish option. I dont go down that route either.

What about a nice gherkin?

Got to be cheese which would then make it the most unhealthy snack in the world.

Which opens up a whole new can of worms...

Is an omelette a snack?
or
Is an omelette a meal?

I would go down the meal route.

Went for cooked sausage, onions and cheese but chorizo would be my preference. Meat and onions first into well whipped eggs then when the top's still wet stick it under the grill with slices of cheese. Mmm...

I would only ever eat them between meals therefore it is only a snack. :)

Only recently got into omelettes  My last one had a fruity Scotch Bonnet chilli and a handful of of fresh coriander along with the usual ingredients. 8/10. Would eat again :D maybe not for breakfast though as it had quite a kick :D

Nope not having that. you are transforming it into something else - it's like saying my favourite crisps are plain - but I add to them roast chicken, roast potatoes, 5 veg, stuffing, mustard, bread sauce and gravy - mmm then they are really tasty. Its not crisps any more and here the excess ingredients have moved away from being an omelette. All you will be able to taste is onions, chorizo and cheese. Now dont get me wrong they are good things but an omlette should taste mainly of eggs.

No bread / sandwich analogies please that different.

Ditto Pizza bases.

During one of my disasterous omelette making sessions I opened a tin of baked beans with the little pork sausages, I removed the sausages and tried to put them in the middle of the omelette  At least Sandy my wee dog enjoyed the end result :D

What he said.

Everyone else is a heathen.

If you don't like the taste of eggs, don't eat omelette.

If you want all them there other ingredients in it, buy a pizza!

My preferred filling is Spanish.

I have no idea whats in it, but next time I'm ordering one at the chippy I'll be sure to ask.

We've got our own chooks who get fed all sorts of leftovers so have probably the most flavoursome eggs around but I still wouldn't say they really have a flavour. Even a salt and pepper omelette tastes of salt and pepper. I think the pizza analogy can be reversed - a plain omelette is like a margarita, not bad but much nicer with some nice toppings. Otherwise, what's this whole thread about? ;)

Im in trouble now - My favourite SANDWICH on the planet is an Omelette one and having read the rules o engagement above I fail on nearly every front.

Onion / Chorizo / chillis / strong cheese - cooked one side in pan and then cheese added to do under grill. Butter your bread / add omelette (Always ensuring too much for 2 slices and cutting a third) - adding a mountain of tomato ketchup to side of plate and then create carnage. Melting butter everywhere - dip your increasingly sogy bread into ketchup and enjoy.

Ultimately I see an omelette as a real comfort food as opposed to fine dining - I love eggs but if wanting something predominantly eggy then I would go for a simple poached egg.

My favourite hangover cure :P

That's a good tip. If you want to experience pure unadulterated eggness then do this. If you want to take eggs to the next level then experiment with omelettes.

*Please note, all egg puns were deliberately avoided.
