Into 2011, have ballooned to 18 stone 10 lbs (10lbs higher than I anticipated) & it's time to do something about it. Can't afford the Gym so I'm going to be Wii Fitting it.

BMI nearly 35 (34.6) - bloody disgraceful

Targets

2lbs weight loss each week - short term
<18 stone by 01/03/11 - medium term
<17 stone by 01/06/11 - long term

<34 BMI - short term
<32 BMI - mid term
<30 BMI - long term (16 stone)

Anybody else trying to shed some weight...

Damn good idea young man. I am on board.

To give some history, back in 2004 I weighed in at 19.5 stone. Decided enough was enough, long story short I discovered the wonderful world of the Atkins Diet and dropped to 13.5.

2 years after getting that low and the inevitable has happened, the weight has started to come back. last tuesday morning I had a shock when I stepped on the scales and was 16 stone 10 lbs. God knows where that came from ;-)

anyway, I am back on the straight and narrow now, just watching my calorie intake and excercising.

will join you on some sort of crusade / challenge if you wish?

I want to get back down to 14st if possible, but at the same time I have to be realistic and realise that I am giving up smoking at the same time. So I will be happy to just get down to 15.5 in the short to medium term.

Can I be your guru? I reckon weight-loss is pretty easy, or less difficult than many make it out to be.

I am now at the lowest weight I have been in the last 10 years. In 2001 I wieghed 16st which shot up to 17st 8lbs in 2006. I then started on a Low Fat diet, basically eating as much as I did before but making sure that nothing I ate contained more than 5% fat. I also got a little dog in 2006 who encourages me to get out the house and do a lot more walking (around 6 miles a day) and I now weigh 15st 4lbs and still dropping.

2st 4lbs may not seem much over 5 years but it has been a slow gradual process. For nearly a year I was stuck on 16st until it started to drop again and I actually LOST 3lbs over Christmas and New Year. :D

I think that to many people expect to lose weight quickly and are disappointed when it doesn't happen and just give up. BTW I stopped smoking 12 years ago and I stopped drinking alcohol 26 years ago.

I lost 16lbs from late September to December (but gained about 3 lbs over Xmas)

It's all about losing it gradually and changing eating habits rather than simply dieting.

Why do you think of weight, rather than belt\trouser size?

Because there's no such thing as targetted fat loss blah  , your fat will drop from wherever it wants to first.. although usually the waist/bum (and face!) etc. area first , and the gut last.. not always.

I'm 10st10 and perfect BMI (although doesn't mean much for muscley people compared to overweight) .. went from almost 34% body fat into 13% in less than a year.

Eat early and regularily, cut ALL sugar, cut takeaways and lessen alcohol.. simple as. Metabolism will fly up and you'll look a lean feather within a few months. :D

Glglglglgl all. :D

Not sure BMI is relevant, and nor is weight loss, if people go to the gym and build up muscle, to replace fat. Trouser waist size is the main measure, allowing for guts flopping over the top of the trousers......................

Just my usual spring weight loss. Tend to be around 12 1/2 stone in the summer and 13 and a bit in the winter (eat more, train less).
Got to 14 stone a few weeks ago. Yesterday I was 13 st 10 (BMI 26). Will get down to under 13 stone by end of Feb and then drop to 12.5 (BMI 23.7) by April all being well.

BMI is a bit misleading. When I was mega fit and playing rugby I was still 13 1/2 stone, and so technically overweight

Waist size is important, but some people will be slim at 34" and some at 30". It also doesn't say anything about how fit/healthy you are. As with BMI, better to be at the upper range and fit than skinny and unfit.

For the record, my waist is around 33". Probably slightly more at the moment but will drop slightly lower in the summer. BMI/waist/weight doesn't bother me that much, other than being lighter makes it easier to cycle up hills. Physiologically I'm more of a sprinter than an endurance whippet anyway though.

For the record, a pound of fat contains approx 3,500 calories, so you have to create a calorie deficit of 3,500 to lose each pound, or around 500 calories a day (too much deficit and you just get knackered and ill though). It doesn't matter that much what type of exercise you do. If you do 'fat burning' low intensity exercise you may be using more fat as fuel, but it just takes longer to create the calorie deficit. High intensity exercise might actually burn carbs more than fat, but then your body will equalise this all up so the net effect on weight will be the same for the same calorie usage. The training effect is different, but the weight effect isn't.

I've been "12 stone something" for several years. Crept under 12 stone for the first time in donkeys' years at the tail end of last year but have put on a few pounds over christmas.

Short term target is to lose 3 or 4 pounds to get under 12 stone again.

I really should aim to get down to 11st but I'll be realistic and admit that won't happen at my age without total abstinence of the stuff I enjoy which is a compromise too far!

I was under that when I was young and fit without being at all scrawny - my ideal weight for my frame, without any muscles for sport, is probably 10 and a half.

I'll join in with this, weighed 13st 6Ibs mid october & decided to reduce my daily calorie in take (by cutting down/cutting out treats like crisps, biscuits etc), managed to get down to 12st 4Ibs by mid december but then xmas kicked in & as of this morning I'm now at 12st 9Ibs.

Hopefully a bit of friendly competition via this thread will give me enough motivation to get back to my pre-xmas ways & then stick to them  . In terms of a weight loss target, ideally I'd like to get down to 10st 7Ibs by mid April/May).

Best of luck to everyone that's giving this a go :D ...

I'm up for this. A bit of healthy (ho ho) competition might spur me on a bit. I weighed myself on January 1st at 18st 13lb and action is required. Long term goal is in July next year for my 10 year anniversary to weigh what I did on my wedding day (13st).

For the purposes of this thread I will dig out the Wii and post on Monday evenings.

To add to the debate, I think those posters who are 10-13 stone may well find a more useful measurement than BMI or weight but for those of us at the upper end it will give us a fair indication of progress.

I want to gain weight. Im only 12 stone. WOuld like to be 14 stone.

You say your BMIs are too high but if you are all muscle does that matter? I guess if you guys are just body builders then you still put a lot of strain on your heart and most body builders arent physically healthy compared to athletes. BMIs should be tied in with the "flab pinch" around the waist.

I'm yet another who ate/drank too much over Christmas/New Year. On Jan 1st I weighed in at 15-2. I promised myself I wouldn't let myself go above 15 stone again. Might be a bit ambitious but I'd like to get down to 14 stone by the end of March and then down to 13-7 by the end of June. That should be a pretty good weight for me. :D

I'm not actually overweight. I'm just not tall enough!

I'd like to join in for a bit of mutual support.

I used to be a half decent rugby player who now has a rugby playing diet without the rugby.

I work erratic shifts, experience huge amounts of stress at work and at home and find it hard to get out and about for any decent exercise. I do a few weights at home. My eating habits are terrible.

I enjoy cycling, squash, swimming and walking but only do the walking.

I attended a malnutrition screening tool training session this morning and as part of the training we had to calculate our BMI without scales or measuring height. I was well and truly in the red zone.

Haven't weighed myself since I was ill last year but I will get myself weighed tomorrow at work and post the result. I'm expecting about 18 stone.

I am 5ft 9ins tall with a 42inch waist. I could do with losing a bit. (weight not height)

Losing some holes would be nice but my heart and chest would just like to see some overall weight loss.

I don't like shogun's chart - it doesn't go high enough for my weight.... :(

Maybe I should join in here.... I'm not trying to lose weight, just conscious that I could do with losing some. Being last each week might spur me on?! :?

16st 5lbs
6' 1''
BMI 30.2

(Above 30 is obese!)

Target is to get back to just 'overweight' - anything else would be a bonus.

Like Spiny, I work erratic shifts so regular meal times are not something I know anything about. Ready meals and take-aways in the other hand.... :?
In four weeks I will be changing jobs however, to a more sedentary role - regular hours, but being on my feet for 12hrs a day/night is about the only exercise I currently get...

Now where do I start? :D

Hello All.... This time last year i peaked at 15stone.... So I gave up the gym.

Though I started road running from March.. with the Help of my Ipod and the App Runkeeper.

http://runkeeper.com/user/crookface/profile

As a Result got down to 13 stone, though over Xmas have gone back upto 13 '9'. So have stated to run again from today, so hopefully will get back down for my Wedding on June 10th in Devon.

Also gonna aim for the Hinckley Half Marathon in May for a boost...

Ohh I'm 6 foot and getting smaller...

I'll give this a go too.

Weighed in yesterday at 14st 7lbs, 5ft 11, BMI =28.

Target weight 13st. I am quite a large frame generally and reckon that would be a healthy weight for me even though that would still leave me with a BMI of 25.

Hi guys, im in. This is a great idea, and a bit of motivation is a good thing.
Ive lost over 28lb since july, but had a major relapse over Christmas, and gained 10lbs.
Im now 12.10lb.
I want to be 11.00 by August when my son gets married and my youngest daughters baby is due.
So i have plenty of good reasons to do this.
Good luck , and will post on monday all the stats. Cheers

Good thread, Adrian. Good luck with it all. Don't have a wii fit so can't join in, but me and wife going to go the paw route and cut the fat out of our diet, but I have told her if she starts losing weight from her t*ts, the deal is off and we can start eating fat again!

Don't have to do wii fit - just weigh yourself each week and post your weight.

I'll do a table, update it weekly and see how we all get on. Didn't expect such a good response - seems the average FISOer is a bit of a fatty

Without getting all Jamie Oliver or Gordon Ramsey on you, I always find it interesting when people say they never have time to cook anything healthy and have to rely on take-aways and pot noodles. This Xmas I bought Mrs s one of these

http://http://www.lekue.es/producto.php?referencia=3400702

It's a steamer - but not as we know it. Rather than having to plug in or carry around a big metal steamer, this is just two very light weight silicone rubber containers, that nicely sit on each other. As long as you have a saucepan and water, these containers just sit on any household saucepan and steam the food inside. You can cook a number of items at one time and the cooking time for steam food is remarkably quick.

It is also argueable that steamed food is the healthiest type as steaming allows food to keep most of it's nutrients and goodness. Tonight, we had some Talapia fish, brocolli, spinach and boiled potatoes and the whole meal took 10 mins to cook.

Think that's only 6 minutes longer than you have to wait for the pot noodle to soften!
