Christ! I'm up against the only person who knows what they're doing!

I'm having a few issues with my pc at home at the mo so hope you don't mind if I get these resolved before we kick off. Hope to have them sorted this evening but may be later in the week.

No problem Digs, by the way I'm hardly the only one that knows what they are doing. Fancy Dan is favourite, blahblah & Kizkiz are both tough to beat & Whatever is a very good games player.

Looking forward to it though. :D

blahblah has an easy draw. I couldnt make head nor tale of what to do when I started my practise game yesterday. Once the initial armies were deployed (no idea if i did a good job there) I just got faced with a load of random pictures on cards, no real explanation of what they were and no idea what to do with them... so I randomly allocated a different location to each card and hope that works

It's actually very simple if you take a scan of the rules
the move A and B are for attacking
the 1,3 and 5 troops are reinforcements
the 3 buildings are to build the three buildings
the chest is collect gold
the grain is to collect grain

Had just about worked it out (minus the A and B, which i just ignored)... although i thought the chest was a loaf of bread and was a product of using grain

Now just need to figure out when to use what... i may get there by 2011.

You need gold to buy shit (armies and buildings)
enough grain to cover the amount of areas you own by winter
A and B you use to attack a new area to take it over (you can use it to move between 2 you already own)
1,3,5 - just adds extra troops to those areas

You get points for having most of each of the 3 types of building in a zone, and also per territory
Simples

I got that from the wiki page on the game... still no idea about tactics and which places to put grain and where to put gold etc... I will get there, eventually. Until then I will focus on beginners luck 8-)

Your pretty much there then, strategy varies from game to game depending on what territories you are dealt. The key thing is to have the most buildings in each Province.

Also gaining territories is a lottery, even empty states are defended by farmers.

Oh, and keep an eye out for the 'event cards' - these have a bearing on each phase of the game & include - Good harvest in X, bad harvest in X, Church peace (stops you from attacking a state with a church), etc, etc

Um, I'm not sure how but I seem to be involved with this! I put my name down and played a game (which I think has now finished) but I don't think I meant to go into this draw. If it doesn't ruin the game I think Jeffers should get a bye. Frankly, I have no idea what happened in the last game I played and whilst I can see that the concept could be interesting it just didn't "click" for me. Also, I'm in London all week so our game would take bloomin' ages to finish!

If you need me to randomly click some buttons but it wouldn't really be fair if I won by chance.

Kinda glad I didnt win the second one, it means that I can stop playing now. Dumb luck ruined me in both games, it doesnt inspire me to want to play again. One game had a situation where I sent 11 armies to attack 5, and I lost the lot while he not only lost nothing but actually ended up with 6 somehow. That opened me right up and killed me off there. The other one I had set up another large army over 2 turns and couldnt do the intended combat because of church peace, so that ended that strategy after 3 wasted turns. I lost my best gold producing region to a farm revolt in one game and ended up skint for the whole of year 2 and a key terratory with buildings in another. Meh.

Best of luck in the rest of the competition guys, this one isnt for me at all.

There were a few key battles in both games, which went my way. The whole battle thing is quite baffling, tbh. I lost with 10 against 1, once.

10 against 1? sums it up really.

I can handle losing 11 v 5... but I would have thought I would do some damage!! To go from 11 v 5 to 1 v 6 and be crushed was just ridiculous.

There is some twisted logic, if you read the rules about not so hidden extra troops......

You've got to watch out for armies 'in the cup', these get added to whatever you're attacking/defending with. Te other point is that if you lose armies in the tower, they're still there and are more likely to come on your next battle(s), so it should even itself out eventually. But I don't think they've quite simulated the whole tower business accurately in the online.
