tfc: royal london 50over tfr tactics

Post by banana »

ok! you horny, hard-luvving gods of sex!! :P

... what do you think are the best tactics for the upcoming competition, in terms of tfr policy and player personnel. who do we think will make an impact and who do we feel may find themselves on the sidelines either for rest purposes of because they lack the necessary skills to succeed in this shortened format of the game?*

* i have, cunningly, written the above in a small, brown font to represent a nerdy voice... so when u read the above, just imagine my irritating monotone speaking 2 u... :|

No idea banana, sorry (- thought you'd still be in bed nursing a sore head after Allenby's pyrotechnics last night :) )

Cobb seems to love this format.

50 overs, though. 10 overs a bowler, opportunity for 150+ runs. Trott could come into the equation, illness pending?

If you can pick a batsmans who regularly bowls 8-10 overs you're quids in. Durston, Howell the usual suspects.

Crook seems to be slowly finding form, too.

Either way, should be an exciting twist to the 'all about Ajmal' it's been for the last 6 weeks or so. Been a bit dull.

Are people going to pick players they intend to leave in for the rest of the season or do you intend on going with specialists who you'll have to ship out once the 4 days start up again?

I'm just wondering if the extra transfer I'll need to ship out someone like Durston would be better spent on getting extra players in like Roy, Stoneman, Hales, J. Patel etc, guys in good 4 day form who do well in one days

It's difficult getting the balance right & I suppose it depends on how many transfers you have left.

for me gf I will need to look at bringing in long termers as transfers are at a a premium. I presume if you are in top 50 you will not be flush with transfers - possibly half original allocation or even less than half by the time the one day cup begins. Outside top 50 you are 1000 points off the lead, so if you have the transfers then this could be the time to make those points up. I will probably shift captaincy from Ajmal to one of the big All Rounders - Samit, Allenby, Bopara and hope one of them has a good run.

Yup that's a spot in view. I'm 39th and it describes me perfectly. I have about 6 tfs in mind between now and the start of the one dayers, but they will be drip fed in depending on 4 days fixtures. First two tomorrow. Still have double figures capt changes so hoping I can use those to make it pay

'allo mah leeeetle jam-boooties - 2deh sees ze staaart of ze royale de londres in zat quehnt leetle spor yeu call ze creekeeet! :)

... y'know what? a lot of people come up to me and say something like:

banana. how is that you above all others can so effortlessly combine great looks with a razor sharp intelligence?

.... :| and u know what i say? ... hey, there's nothing i can do about my physical sexiness - it's genetic..... but i do actually work at the cerebral side.

intelligence. what is it? the best explanation i've ever come across is by bill hartson, the english chess-master. he described chess as being: 90% stacking boxes. 9% filleting fish. 1% thinking.
any idiot can do the 90% and (with enuff practice) that same idiot can do the other 9%. BUT!! that last 1% ... you just can't teach it... you've either got it or u haven't. it's what separates the bobby fishers of this world from the bobby balls. :)

so hey, banana... that's all well and good but what the heck has that got to do with cricket, you hunk of prime welsh-luuuuurve? :x

.... ok!! i'm getting there...

along the lines of bill hartson, for me any head-work is a 3 step process.
1 you gather all relevant facts.
2 you analyse those facts with rigour & vigour.
3 you make your judgement.

so as promised elsewhere... let's have a look at gods-own-county... aka glamorgan, if u baint be from round these parts...

facts
1 last year's bowling stats:
http://www.ecb.co.uk/stats/averages/team/52/2013" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
2 last year's batting stats:
http://www.ecb.co.uk/stats/averages/team/52/2013" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
3 this year's fixture list:
http://bramernic.com/fsports/cricgrid.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... thanx 2 bram as always :)

analysis
1 last year we relied heavily on 4 bowlers and wheeled out simon jones as a makeweight. given that hogan did a huge load of work, u could be 4given 4 thinking that radford is being a bit cute by hinting recently that the idea was to rest him were it not 4 all the injuries... hmmm :? could harris be this year's jones?

2 batting... last yr we had marcus north as o/seas and he's mid-order. this yr we have rudolph - surely nailed on to open. will this change the dynamic of our batting order? notice cooke... played all 13 games last yr  ... and where do u think wallace will bat?

3 the whole competition has changed. it's not 40overs now... it's 50. does that matter? and also a bloc of the season has been handed over to this competition - maybe to counter the apathy of some of the counties in seasons past :?: ... is it even worth using historical analysis to plan 4 what may happen this year?

judgement
the queen is a man and the god of abraham is a spiteful old b4st4rd who never existed anyway.

bon chance, mes amis xx
