Agreed - if the 'keeper gets into the head of the taker and causes him to miss then I think that's fair .... maybe not the full 'save' points but something

Would you captain a player knowing he takes pens like this?

The backflip seems so superfluous. I mean, he has already struck the ball before he starts into the backflip. Like, what the hell?

I wonder have there been other teams ahead 3-0 at HT with less than 30% possession! :o

Absolutely massive for England's progress under Southgate, we're still starting off on the planning but this was an huge boost for confidence.

Marvelous first half and hung on with a two goal lead until the last second.

Hugely encouraging and massive for confidence. The first half was absolutely outstanding from England who mixed it up, both short and long passes, totally ripping through the pressing game Spain like to play, and at pace too.

Rapier like counters, rather like Leicester in their pomp, making the possession stats look the complete irrelevance they can sometimes be. Spain had a decent first ten minutes, but after were just stunned and shell shocked trying to regroup at half time.

The second half performance was one were England looked stubborn in defence, prepared to protect such a sizeable advantage, and still posed a threat on the break.

Pickford's error aside, it wasn't until the substitutions that Spain really threatened as we fell asleep at a corner, and a headed goal resulted. To me it always looked unlikely they could come back, even though the last second goal made the scoreline more respectable, England held on comfortably enough to notch a famous win.

Youngest England team in a competitive game since 1959

(At senior level)

The planning is now obvious even if a long way to go

Spain haven't been beaten in a competitive game at home for 15 years. (2003)

amazing: last posts about Finland in TRK are in the 17-18 topic! :o (which btw can't be quoted anymoree as it's locked)

I was actually just looking for a pretext, a hook, to add this

Considering that the UEFA tiebreaker-style always privileged H2H records first (as opposed to FIFA group GD first),
Finland, who came from Pot 3 in League C https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018%E2%8 ... _C#Group_2
- having 6pts advantage over Greece with 2 games to go,
- and having beaten Greece 2-0 in last monday home leg
can even afford to (*)
- lose by 1 goal in Greece on Nov 15th
- or to lose 0-2 (IF Greece then don't beat Estonia by more than 1)
- or to lose by 2 and scoring (1-3, 2-4, ...) for the away goals (#4 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018%E2%8 ... up_ranking)
to secure Group C2 victory, and thus obtain
- Promotion to League B!
- access to the League C Euro 2020 qualifying play-offs https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018%E2%8 ... _play-offs should they fail to qualify via normal qualifiers

(*) failing the above (i.e. they lose by 3), they would still win group by drawing in Hungary in last match

Not sure which Bayern side you have been watching but high tempo is not something I would associate them with? :?

How does you bringing in Eden mean Giroud is benched (as he has been pretty much all season)?

I feel we're due something from Alonso today. Where's that Alonso from the first 5-6 weeks?! And I don't mean the one who had his assist not given in the 4-1 win over Cardiff!

Man Utd I'm guessing, unless they agree to pay part of his salary to go elsewhere. It's crazy how much money he's on... £350k per week, plus a £75k bonus for every match he starts, plus various other image rights payments.

Pogba keeps getting criticised, he apparently can't understand why, but he just keeps on showing us all exactly why, time after time.

Hazard gets a yellow for a foul on Rashford in an area where Alonso was nowhere to be seen.

Cannot fathom why he's starting over Giroud. He holds the ball about as well as a sieve holds water.
