TFF 2018/19

Post by quizking »

Game due to launch on friday July 13th (unfortunately, they choose to announce this info on twitter), along with the championship game.
Supposedly no advance notice or full list of player prices, though that won't stop some of us trying to look under the bonnet beforehand.

They've ran a couple of Twitter polls asking how people wanted to see Salah and Martial classified - midfielders or strikers. Probably unsurprisingly, the people voted for midfielders.

Yes, we really need to stop putting votes to ‘the people’.

The people have proven that they’re effin’ stupid.

If they asked 'the people' if they wanted unlimited transfers they'd say 'yes'.

Who are us purist snobs to argue?

I've completely lost the FF bug, I wasn't tempted by the WC game and I'm not in the slightest bit interested in the launch. Probably going to reduce my entry to about 5 teams this year maybe less. It's a feeling that's been festering in the last 2-3 years I just can't gather the same enthusiasm for the game, maybe it's an age thing!

I hope you rediscover your love for TFF hoppy, your team diary thread really inspired me when I first read it a few season ago and I hope you will continue with a brand new team for the next season. It was one of the things I looked forward to reading every week and nice to learn from a very good player about tactics and player selection. Hope you get promoted in the egg cup as well.

I echo that.

Reading how your team was performing always made me feel a bit better about my teams!

Probably too simplistic but I put my decline in both interest and performance to when transfers increased. I thought 24 was the perfect number, it really focused the mind and made you much more prudent. I know people will have contrary arguments to that but it’s just something I’ve never got my head around and end up with no real plan and just fritter them away.

Maybe other things in life become more important as you get older too, I just don’t seem to have the same passion any more - I mean in the past I’d be chomping at the bit if there was even a hint of a player list!

TFF 2018-19 q'naire

Post by SamD »

Telegraph has 'history' of controversial moves at the launch of a new game, eg:

- you couldn't buy season ticket for summer World Cup contest if you already had one for 2017-18 season
- offering extra transfers for cash in TFF 2016-17 (99p for 20 more transfers)

They then relent. Perhaps heated debate on social media helps with publicity...

On that basis which of the suggested changes in the June 2018 questionnaire (below) do you think might surface this time?

Would you be in favour of any of the following features in next season's game? (Tick all that apply)

1. The option to include matches played in the EFL Cup, as well as the FA Cup
2. Award clean sheet bonuses for defensive midfielders
3. Award points for number of saves a goalkeeper makes
4. Award points for number of tackles a defensive midfielder makes
5. A 5-4-1 formation option
6. Less transfers allowed per week (three instead of five)
7. Unlimited transfers allowed per week

8. A brief, unlimited transfer amnesty at the end of January to coincide with the end of the January transfer window
9. Have fluctuating player prices throughout the season based on performance and % ownership
10. Award points for the Man of the Match
11. Nominate a captain each week to score double points

None of the above, leave the game exactly as it is!!

Changes?

Post by SamD »

NB: After the June 2017 survey the Telegraph launched TFF 2017-18 with this summary:

Your first team is free in both the Premier League and Championship editions
Scoring points will be the same, no need to download any new rule books
Transfers - 40 and max five per week
£50m budget and the same selection criteria
No gimmicks; captains, transfer amnesties and fluctuating values - the TFF public voted and you won't see any of these in our game.

So, would guess perennial proposals 8 to 11 in previous post won't be introduced.

Fwiw, am happy with game as it stands.

+1

It all seemed more important when I had work time to waste too but now I'm not working TFF is not as much of a draw compared to my garden or going walking etc. Mind you the rot had set in a long time before I quit work.

I need the sidegames to give me focus and interest.

I'd say something to do with defensive mids and/or an amnesty the most likely. Amnesty would be terrible. Fixed prices leads to a lot of teams coalescing in TFF already but this would make it worse.

That said, if they brought in fluctuating prices that would be it for me with TFF.

I could do with a few more hours each day before the 13th rolls along then. Be good to start on proper football again though

Just noticed that in my summary, it's showing unused World Cup credits as:

Unused Free Team Credits: 10
Unused Paid Team Credits:

when they were very much paid for. They're not very good at this stuff are they.

I didn’t touch my TFF teams at all last season after failing to get them organised properly before the big kick-off due to being away on the opening weekend (not helped by the aberration of a Friday opening game...) Maybe will just go for 2 or 3 this season, though the main reason for entering more is to try and get a good start from at least one, which I never seem to do anyway.

Gave up on the World Cup game midway through the group stage after I couldn’t be arsed to keep block rotating attacking players between early and late groups every couple of days. Although international tournament FF games rarely hold my interest for that very reason, along with being a lottery as they’re so short.

Salah and Sanchez as 6m and 5.6m midfielders respectively the first thing to leap out at me.

Payment of £5 or £10 this year for entry into the ONE LEAGUES.
Pay £5 to win £2000, or £10 to win £10,000 ... now let me see ... one of these doesn't seem particularly good value .

I think prize money for overall winner is down from £50,000 to £40,000.

Also only top 10 win cash prizes, last season it was top 20.

No mention of the perfect starting 11 prize (which was pretty pointless)
