I think with limited time between the group and knockout the idea was to keep it simple and not have a mini draft, so it's just a case of 3 out any 3 in, then back to unique only changes.thebillfella wrote: ↑12 Jun 2018, 10:23 Oh, that is a good point and an issue for us all. May have to swap out some big signings to get others in.
Are we doing the "three back into the pot after group stage" thing this time?

Starting XI Final League Standing Predictions
Mystic Bill is back. Don't blame me if you don't like what you read - it was the spirits that made me say it.
Geoffv
First draft and took Griezmann who has a good chance of winning the golden boot. Part Russian block off to a good start but sterner tests to come. Couple of players who may not start. Will need maximum use of transfers available I fear, and may have too much ground to make up. Predicted position: 11
Striker
Neymar up top, strong defence, reasonable midfield, support strikers will need a revisit after last 16 but should be well placed to press on with some sensible changes. Predicted position: 3
Spencer4
Can Messi carry both Argentina’s and Spencer’s hopes? Reus a shrewd buy, Ramos Caceres and Pickford should be good for some clean sheets; the rest will need maximum use of transfers IMO and may leave too much to do. Predicted position: 10
Workie-ticket
Looking for Spain and Germany to go far, with Jesus leading the line. Pique the only real quality in one of the weaker defenses may leave the team struggling to catch up in the latter stages. Predicted position: 9
Streety
Looking for Ronaldo to deliver but backed up with a strong support cast. Will be looking for Brazil, Argentina and England to do well. Has a serious chance to challenge. Predicted position: 2
Morganb
Built around the Werner / Kroos German axis. Forwards and defence ok but midfield weak. Mid-table estimated. Predicted position: 5
Robot
Cavani could do very well, especially if the Saudis play as they did today. Strong midfield and defence, weak support to Cavani up top. Will be looking for Uruguay to live up to their dark horse’s mantle. Will need a couple of changes after the group stage to maintain a challenge. Predicted position: 8
Thebillfella
Now we’re talking!!! Strong defence, reasonable midfield with one question mark (in Fernandinho) and Suarez up front (see Cavani above) who may have to carry the scoring responsibilities with Muller. Looking more for Brazil, Germany and France to do well so has a chance against streety (even if I say so myself!). Predicted position: 1
Rick Spangle
Kane leads the line here along with German semi block. defence should be good for some clean sheets, not sure whether midfield will contribute much, but support strikers could chip in with the odd goal. Above mid table but may just fall short of top spot. Predicted position: 4
Nffc
Looking for Belgium to do well with an eclectic mix of others. Wing-backs should score well, midfield could chip in but not sure enough goals in the team to support the defence. Just below mid-table IMO. Predicted position: 7
Nathan247
Strong forward line lead by Lukaku who could fill his boots before Belgium face England. Strong midfield (although question marks over Lemar starting?) but defence not as strong as some. Needs the forwards to perform to balance against the estimated fewer clean sheets compared to some teams. Could be a challenger for the league golden boot. Predicted position: 6

Re: Draft TFF World Cup 2018
Not sure that I agree with all that Bill, but a really interesting read. My only question is that you seem to have done the forecast for the whole tournament rather than just for the group stage, even though our teams will become significantly different in the knock out phase. Very brave if as I think it's for the whole tournament.
Anyone else care to have a go at forecasting. If there are at least four forecasts, I'll give a £25 prize by paying for entry into next season's Fiso Twenty Fiver League to the best one. The judge (me) will have total discretion over the method of assessment. It will be primarily based on the accuracy of the end forecast, but the blurb will be given additional points. It will be based on the entire tournament as I think that's what Bill has done.
Transfers are now available. Do them in the usual way. Maximum of ONE per calendar day, with a maximum total of THREE during the group stage.

Hence why I called it the Starting XI Final League Standing Predictions. The overall is of course subject partially to how successful our transfers are.
But hey, Geoffv is way out in front atm so what do I know!!!

Well, other than getting Geoffv and my predicted positions completely the wrong way around (who'd have thought, other than Geoffv, that Russia would produce better picks than Brazil or Germany ), most of the predictions don't look too far off the mark right now...
