Fantasy Olympics 2016
Greetings fellow FISO-type people.
Well, time has moved on since my inaugural Fantasy Olympics 2012 competition, and we're approaching Rio 2016. So I was sat here playing with loads of data wondering what I could do, and I've come up with another Fantasy competition. It's a typical Shaggy-type competition, so it's a pick-6 countries, don't overspend, sit-back-and-wait type competition. Web-site is http://pwhitehead.webs.com/fantasyrio2016.htm. There's only 285 days to get those entries in, so pick your 6 countries, don't over-spend & send me an email or pm.
The other good news is this is available to non-FISO-types as well, so if you know of any friends, work colleagues, the missus that want to have a dabble, the more the merrier. And to all the non-FISO-types reading this far, I will not store your email or send you spam emails. I will only use your email address to communicate with you if your entry is invalid.
Good luck one & all.

Re: Fantasy Olympics 2016
Marvellous. Less than 2 weeks after launching my competition, some-one decides to throw a spanner in the works (and all my calculations) by telling Russia that they've all been very naughty boys and girls and can't play with the good boys and girls.
Until such time as there has been a definite decision about what is going to happen, I'll leave my competition as it is, but it might be wise to avoid picking Russia at the moment.

Only if I didn't have Russia, in which case all their medals should be stripped out

Until athletes are disqualified, the medal table doesn't get re-done. Doesn't look like anyone will be picking Russia in Rio, though.

If the suspension is lifted it would be interesting to see how "prepared" their athletes would be in Rio....Shaggy365 wrote:Until athletes are disqualified, the medal table doesn't get re-done. Doesn't look like anyone will be picking Russia in Rio, though.

Re: Fantasy Olympics 2016
This really is some can of worms that has been opened, and what cycling has gone through could be noting compared to what happens next.
Kenya doesn't even have and anti-doping agency: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-34811588
There are more countries doing this than just Russia, even if through "private" enterprises and so many more sports have problems with it. The reaction to Wenger's claims http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34801778 will be interesting, and I would guess that both codes of rugby, swimming, tennis etc are clean.
It won't be long before some of those that have been protesting get exposed as well, imho.

Just over a month to go, and entries are starting to trickle in. Surprisingly though, no-one has yet picked Russia.

... but I have had my first invalid entry . There are only 2 rules for entering :Shaggy365 wrote:Just over a month to go, and entries are starting to trickle in. Surprisingly though, no-one has yet picked Russia.
1. Don't overspend the budget
2. Pick 6 countries.
I really must find an easier way for people to enter.

Re: Fantasy Olympics 2016
Just returned from a week away & updated the entry spreadsheet. Into double figures for entries, but still some way short of the 127 that entered in 2012.

Between doping and Zika this is going to be one seriously understrength Olympics. Almost as bad as the USA/USSR boycotts.

Just over 3 weeks to go. Time to dig out that calculator to add up your total spend, and also dig out those fingers so you can count up to 6.

Definitely not looking good for the Russian competitors, whether they are clean or not. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/36834090
Looks like I might have to re-visit my Fantasy Winter Olympics from Sochi, if the new drug tests come back as unusual.

Now live on murfTV. murfTV now has a rewind facility. Goal is at 8:39 match time.
Germany also up against Zimbabwe. Previously were wins for Sweden, Brazil and Canada. Great extra info for us late entrants but can I afford them all in this game????

Re: Fantasy Olympics 2016
Knew I should have emailed the spreadsheet to work today so I could update at lunch-time. Utterly deluged in entries, and approaching entry number 100. And it doesn't help that even though entrants just have to send me 6 numbers, people still just type the country name, which means I have to refer back to my list all the time.
Never mind. I believe this is competition 33 that I'm running. I should realise that people get too excited when typing their entry.
Not long to go now.
