Much like LVG and his scouts knew how amazing ADM would be? And for every correct Suarez' we can find 10 incorrect Andy Carrolls.

Re: The Rounded Keeper - FPL Pubtalk & Matchday Banter 2014 - 15
Indeed, and Taca's point was about relative prices rather than quality
27 year old VdV with a much more illustrious club and country record and no biting controversy cost Spurs only £8m. Suarez, 4 years his junior and with undoubtedly more talent but all locked up in potential and with a very questionable disciplinary history cost nearly 3 times a much.
In the 2 seasons VdV played in England he also got more goals and more assists per game than Suarez did during the same time period (Suarez joined in the winter window after VdV joined in the summer one so a direct comparison for that year would be unfair, hence the per game)

Scouts are guessing to a large extent anyway as it's so far from an exact science. Liverpool scouts had no idea Suarez would become as good as he now is, though obviously I'm sure they were hopeful. If it was obvious to the best scouts in the world he'd have gone straight to Barca/Real for much more than £24m, not via Liverpool.

I get it, I was really saying it's a bit premature, and it wasn't a slight on Taca. I don't know about everyone else but I don't think I've seen Firmino play enough times to say exactly whether he could play upfront or not, and Liverpool may have other targets.

Incredible o.g. she couldn't put it there deliberately in 100 attempts yet it just flies in.
They are still the best England team we've got, and I think they won over even more fans to go with those who got interested after London 2012. If the game can keep moving on maybe we can host a WC at some point.

Absolutely gutted for the England ladies, none more so than Laura Bassett. The spirit and fight they showed was admirable, and it really was a freak of an own goal..
The cynic in me would say that maybe luck evens itself out; no way in a million years should our penalty have been given. That said we did have some really good chances second half, so I guess it's all swings and roundabouts.

There were four penalties given in the semi-finals. One wasn't even a foul, two were outside the area, and one was one of the most blatent red cards you'll ever see (a yellow was given).
England incredibly unlucky, thought there were easily the better team. Just a sickeningly unfortunate own goal at the worst possible moment. Great tournament from them.

The Blatter corruption continues! Clearly he has bribed the referees for the semis. Track his bets and you will see he took USA and the over in England vs Japan heavily to cover his impending fines.Stemania wrote:There were four penalties given in the semi-finals. No matter whether it is men or women, England national teams always find the most bitter ways to be knocked out. Penalties, Lamps "goal", own goal...

The difference in quality of the 2 semi-finals was ridiculous. Germany and USA will win their respective games.

Anelka made player-manager of Mumbai... surely he doesn't have the temperament for such a role! I give him half a season, tops.

With RvP on the way out, Rooney suddenly becomes one of the first names on my list for the squad selection

Was thinking the same. The question is, do I use him as a placeholder for Aguero or somehow try to manipulate the balance of my team to afford him alongside him?asm_fanz wrote:With RvP on the way out, Rooney suddenly becomes one of the first names on my list for the squad selection
Was intending on Aguero, 8m, 6m.. what do we think Rooney will come in at? 10?

To be fair, I think there is a chance he may do. In any case I will have him in my first draft right up until the deadline, to ensure I don't spend the money I will need for him elsewhere. That way it can be a late decision whether I keep him in or bring in a placeholder after hearing the pressers.

Argentina penalties other than Messi were awful! Knew I should've put money on Chile at the start

Re: The Rounded Keeper - FPL Pubtalk & Matchday Banter 2014 - 15
It's over a month until kick-off. He might not start on GW 1 but he should be a starter by GW 2-3. Since he will be by far the most expensive striker in the game you might as well start the season with him because there will be no way to get him in without tearing your team apart. The alternative is to bank 3m at the start but I'm not sure I'm comfortable doing that.Mav3rick wrote:Due to playing away in Chile for the Copa America.gallus wrote:why does everyone think Aguero won't start the season?

Re: The Rounded Keeper - FPL Pubtalk & Matchday Banter 2014 - 15
as for playing time, Rooney still played 33 games, only 2 thereof less than 60' (58' and 45''), and 28 of the remaining 60'+ games, he played full 90'asm_fanz wrote:With RvP on the way out, Rooney suddenly becomes one of the first names on my list for the squad selection
as for contending him room upfront, forcing Wayne to play deeper, well, that could be as issue, but all in all I don't think RvP nor Falcao took that much out of Rooney's scoring chances last season

I know that when Rooney is fit he plays, it was not his playing time I was worried about. With Falcao and RvP out of the picture, Rooney is Manchester United's main striker (he also gets back the PK duties and some free kicks), and that's what I want when I spend 10m on a striker
