Love this game, but have never worked out the best tactics to win.

Any ideas?

Hi, I won the FISO mini-league of Telegraph Fantasy Cheltenham 2013.

I am still a novice but fast learning tipster and have some wisdom to pass on that may, may not, help.

Tactically, match trainers to their retained rider;
I.e Barry Geraghty with Nicky Henderson, Ruby Walsh with Willie Mullins, BJ Cooper with Gordon Elliott, Sam and Nigel Twiston-Davies, Paul Nicholls and Daryl Jacob, V Williams and Aidan Coleman, O'Reagan and McCain Jnr. This is not possible for all available selections but those above combine in my 3 stables.

It's worth noting D E Mullins, the jockey rated 20 is now the retained jockey for a bigger team and has some top rides in Our Conor, Inis Meain and Foxrock to name a few. He is in 2 of my stables. This gives great options in the game.

I personally expect Ruby Walsh to ride at least 6 winners this festivainl.
I expect Barry Geraghty to ride 3 winners

There are 11 non handicap races. These are typically won by horses in single figures in the betting. In the 16 handicaps you should expect at least half to be won by horses rated at 16-1 or more!

As for my horse selections these again will be matched to the rider, trainer combo's in each of my stables.
I.e, Vautour, Champagne Fever, Hurricaine Fly, Morning Assembly, Arvika Ligeonierre, Faugheen, Annie Power, Djackadam,Quevega, Briar Hill, should all be linked to Ruby Walsh and Willie Mullins.

I am sure you'll be able to do your math and do right by your stables.

Enjoy the Festival, it will be magic. Am looking forward to the World Hurdle on Thursday the most. Annie Power takes on Big Bucks, At Fisher's Cross and Rule the World, but watch out for More of That in this race, very special horse and AP chose the wrong horse!

Very good. I'm not THAT Mark Gardiner. Although weirdly when he won the lottery he shared it with his business partner Paul Harrison. I was working in France at the time with a chap called Paul Harrison, freaked us both out when we read about it.

Have to say Cheltenham glory beats winning a 10 spot.....

Personally believe that is not the best tactic, need as many big prize winners as possible.

Yep. A short priced winner won't really help

Z rather than C does make a difference here. I reckon Ashers is one of those who have difficulty in spelling Szczesny.

Fond Memories of the Gold Cup, I lived right by Cheltenham Race Course in the 70's and never went to school on Gold Cup
Day Afternoon, no chance. I used to get in free, piece of cake that was, and watched 71 L'Escargot 72 Glencariag Lady 73 The Dikler 74 Captain Christy win. It was great going in the pubs in Prestbury age 16, as I was twice as tall as most of the others in there! The Jockeys

18 horses in that race - I though >16 you got a place 1-4.

Only saying that as the Channon horse placed 4th in all 3 teams at 33-1.

I am obviously missing something

Only handicap races of more than 16 horses get four places.
