1000 Mile Club

Post by Takeshi Kovacs »

Sign in if you're up for the challenge of running 1,000 miles during 2014.

Will monitor progress versus target on a spreadsheet for everyone who signs up and posts their daily mileage. Should be good motivation for us all to get off our backsides and get fit(ter).

Roll up........

Sorry, my body couldn't hack it.

In a good week I do a 5k (3.1 mile) and two training runs of around 2.2 miles each.

7.5 * 52 << 1000

murf - can make a special dispensation for you, and put you down for the 500 mile challenge (you won't have to up your mileage that much).

Either that or we could count your mileage and your dog's too?

I'll go for this as well. I've done just over 700 miles this year, according to my garmin stats, but there's many a time when my watch has not been charged.

I'm in!

I use Nike+ running app to track my runs - which are mainly to and from work. Euston  City 9k per day 4 days per week so I reckon it's achievable.

not sure if the following link will work but it shows a nice graph of my running for 2013

http://nikeplus.nike.com/plus/activity/ ... 7778#graph" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It did work!

I'm in.

Done a measly 490 miles this year, with nothing in March or April. Peaked at 30 miles in a week in August.

Have the Bath Half in early March which should get me going in the early part of the year, before signing up was toying with doing 5k a day through January but will have to work on longer runs now.

Will try 5k a day for first week of Jan, get me going on quest to 1000!

Can you change the title?

I keep thinking it has something to do with physical activity in a plane :?

That's what Mrs TK said, which explains why she was so keen to take up the challenge I think.

I guess she was quite shocked to see you ask for volunteers on a predominantly male site?

Planning our New Year's Day run. Probably a decent spin with the David Lloyd Redway Runners club (assuming I'm not too blootered from the night before).

Get your week 1 runs planned now!

The 'monitoring spreadsheet' is up and running, and if everyone posts their mileage, I will give weekly updates on total mileage, and % of target completed.

Might be a few little awards along the way too for good showings!

Key is to run, but not take it too seriously, and the aim is to have a fitter bunch of men and women at the end of 2014 than we had at the start.

I have a run planned for New Year's Day.

It's a 3.55 mile pace race at the local park. No watches, phones, mp3s etc, and the winner is the nearest to their pre-race estimate.

jpk, if you're still local then PM me if you want more details.

Organised by a local running club, only a fiver to enter with a raffle afterwards...can't be bad.

Jantastic may be worth a look boys and girls,

http://www.jantastic.me/

Was initially set up by the marathon talk podcast a few years ago i think.

Firstly set yourself a target for the number of runs per week from 6th Jan to 2nd Feb

Then for following four weeks a target for the number of runs per week and mileage of each week's long run, then

for the final four weeks set target for number of runs per week, mileage of each week's long run and a time target for a flat out effort.

I've just registered and also joined my local parkrun 'team'. Thought it can't do any harm for motivation, and should give a good start to the 1000 mile year!
