So are Spurs fans thinking that Rose is nailed on to start at LB. I see he has played most pre season games.

Interesting, if somewhat biased, blog entry from John Crace on the Bale transfer...Show us the colour of your money, Real Madrid

Do they really have the cash (they haven't finished paying for Modric) ?

Have Spurs played a perfect hand, to date?

Has Bale already been replaced (I found that the least plausible bit)?

The fact is that with one week to kick off, a lot is still up in the air and, yet again, certainty will only appear after transfer deadline day.

The final friendly was a 1-1 draw at home with Espanyol, line-up as follows...

Spurs: Lloris (Friedel 60), Walker, Dawson, Fryers (Kaboul 46), Rose (Naughton 77), Paulinho* (Sandro 60), Dembele (Huddlestone 72), Lennon (Townsend 72), Sigurdsson, Chadli (Stewart 88), Soldado (Defoe 60).

*Man of the Match

Notable absentees - Vertonghen (injured), Parker (off to QPR or West Ham?), Adebayor and, of course, a certain Gareth Bale.

Promising youngsters Tom Carroll, Harry Kane and Yago Falque played in the under 21 Premier League 4-2 8-) win at Chelsea.

Chadli was alright, nothing special, and if Bale goes, he is certainly not the replacement.

Soldado looked at ease straight away, and will be a great signing imo.

Pretty sure not that long ago we got final bit for Anelka  Watched most of Spurs game, it was the defensive side of game that looked a worry (shocked at Caulker sale)
Spurs have spent a lot so far, while do think brought good players, not sure if right players, dont see a good balance, can you play Sandro Dembele in tandem as they did so brilliantly last season (to me losing that cost 4th) and Paulinho.
Be interesting to see what happens if Bale stays (to me thats still on the cards) Real sound as if they are re-thinking potential price, then what will Levy do, has he laid out the money assuming Bale will balance the books or is this a real statement of intent by owners.

The later.

If Bale doesn't go this summer, he'll be off next year and Spurs have only splashed out on Soldado - the others will be offset by outgoings and the rest of the cash from the Modric transfer. The Boxer won't let Levy spend more than is available, that's for sure.

If Kaboul gets back to top form, I think that he and Vertonghen will be a fantastic pairing - certainly the best footballing centre back combination in the Premiership. Capoue should be decent cover for Sandro. Let's see how Sandro, Paulinho and Dembele go as a midfield combo.

What about Assou Ekottu at left back? Is he not first choice over Rose?

Huddlestone sold to Hull and Livermore also heading there on a season-long loan. Probably means that the Capoue deal is a shoe-in, particularly if Davros Parker is off to QPR.

wait and see, but i have a feeling AVB is not a big fan of Benny's playing. I'd like to see Rose start.

but as a person, I hope he never leaves spurs.

It seems that Rose has played most of pre-season instead of Disco Benny.

Is Benny injured, or does it actually look like Rose is worth a punt for the start?

I was watching Rose during the U21 championship and he sure does like to get forward.

I'm with all the people here talking about Rose. In many games, he's an absolute bargain as a cheap defender. But will he play every (or at least most) weeks.

Also which of many Spurs' many midfielders will pick up Bale's goals/assists. Should we plump with Paulinho or wait and see?

wait and see.

Soldado is going to be the only attacking player i'd go with for now.

I don't think Bale will leave, but who knows.

If Kaboul or Dawson find them starting the majority of matches then one of them will be great value. my guess is kaboul, but AVB has taken a liking to Dawson, so who knows.

Surprisingly minimal rotation for their EL game:

Spurs: Lloris, Naughton, Dawson, Kaboul, Rose, Paulinho, Dembele, Capoue, Sigurdsson, Townsend, Soldado.
Subs: Friedel, Walker, Chadli, Carroll, Fryers, Kane, Coulthirst.

Kaboul named as captain apparently alongside Dawson who was captain on Sunday??

Think the former is going to have a big season.

Seen it a few times in recent years:

club captain: icon of club/long standing player/injury prone/not guaranteed a game
team captain: leader in the making/ plays all/most games

Ledley King and Robie Keane, Gary Neville and Rio, Vidic and Evra.

Not a Spurs fan but on current form I gambled on him to running Lennon close for a starting berth. Lamela coming in makes it a three way fight for that position though...

Will Lamela just slot into Bales vacant position ? An attacking mid , 15 goals last season , broke Spurs transfer record he looks a mouth watering prospect , maybe even better than Bale ?
