Farewell, Luka - thanks for 4 great seasons and hope that you flourish at Real. Probably Spurs' best creative midfielder since the halcyon days of Ardiles and Hoddle*, neither of whom, of course, would have stayed for any longer than 4 seasons at WHL in the current, Holywood-style, star system.

It will be very hard to replace the creative hub of the team - certainly not with another holding player such as M'Vila - and the next few days will be interesting.

* have deliberately excluded Gazza who only played 2 seasons worth of football in his 4 years at WHL

For 2 years he'll get his £170,000pw with Man C's £90,000 topping up the Spurs capped £80,000.
What is fascinating is how the wily Levy has finessed Years 3 and 4,since it's potentially £9m as well as driving a bus through the wage scale in 2 years time.
Years 3 and 4?

This is adebayor we're talking about? :?

Dembélé set to join Spurs
Awesome player in that 'new' role of his!

What a blow for Fulham if this will be realized

Do you guys think Defoe will start this weekend? Getting rid soon, but might leave him in for the visit of Norwich in the hope of one last hoorah!

ESPN now reporting...Fulham accept Spurs' Dembele bid
...and the BBC Fulham accept Tottenham offer for midfielder Moussa Dembele

Will be an absolutely fantastic signing if the deal is completed. 8-)

Then, Lloris plus some cover for Aaron Lennon would give AVB a very strong squad to work with.

He'd be one of the two "holding" midfield, along with Sandro/Parker/Livermore etc, albeit he's more "box to box" than the others? Hence Spurs would likely be:

Sandro/Parker/Livermore Dembele

Lennon VDV or Siggy Bale

Ade

Is that right?

Bet Siggy's glad he went to Spurs now instead of Liverpool..

I expect to see Defoe at Anfield by Friday  just a hunch.

Probably more chance that VdV will go - but not to Liverpool. Don't see the point in Defoe going to Liverpool as he's not the ideal partner for Suarez.

And Andy Carroll is ?

Well put it this way if papers speculate Sturridge is then i think at half the price and better the finisher then Defoe fits the bill. He will want out now knowing he is a bench warmer again in his prime.

As i say just a hunch .. i just can't fathom every club going top heavy on midfielders this season including Liverpool.

I can't beleive they will let go of their best striker. If anything they will get carrol on loan as well.

Kaboul out for 4 months
Younes Kaboul has undergone surgery on his injured knee and will be out for around four months, the Tottenham defender announces via Twitter.

So Gallas at £5.0m (FPL) looks a decent pick with only Caulker (currently) for competition.

Dawson will probably stay now - at least until January.

Defoe signs new three-year deal...so he's not going to Anfield, Dot!

ESPN are reporting that
Spurs admit defeat over triple signings...so looks as if neither Willian and Moutinho will be coming and no bid was made for Remy.

That may mean that Lloris will be the only addition and it just remains to be seen who Spurs manage to ship out (Jenas and Gomes, hopefully).

...update, ESPN now reporting that the Lloris deal has hit the rocks - but, as they say, today's another day!

...IF he passes the medical. Therein lies the problem with VdV - brilliant player (if a tad lightweight for the EPL), but rarely fully fit.

A bit concerned generally about our transfer strategy. It seems as if we are aiming too highly with "marquee" names that are just, frankly, unattainable for us. This must be because either the players are demanding champions league football this season or because we are unable to put in mega bids (Damiao, Moutinho, Willian) as we are well-run financially without the benefit of an owner prepared to put in silly amounts of his own money.

Also, I think we were absolutely insane to let Pienaar go when we did. Could have been a decent Modric replacement. Doesn't look like we are going to come remotely close to signing anyone better in that sort of position.

Is the general consensus this eleven for this weekend?

-----------Friedel-----------
Walker--Vertonghen--Gallas--BAK
-------Sandro--Dembele--------
Lennon----Sig------Bale
---------Ade-------

I'm guessing Adebayor will be fit enough to play tommorow

and then after international break?

--------Lloris----------
Walker--Vertonghen--Gallas--BAK
-------Sandro--Dembele--------
Dempsey----Sig---Bale
--------Ade------

Is Lennon the one to be benched for Dempsey then?

And in general I am assuming it is one striker so Defoe is going to be back to substitute cameos?

I my be wrong but I think he played deeper for Fulham quite a lot so they could fit in duff/ruiz/pog/johnson/dempsey etc

He was Bunners, until Jol made a brilliant move to turn him into a more defensive-minded central midfielder around the half of last season because his attacking yield wasn't really fruitful.

Dos Santos signs for Mallorca...fee undisclosed.

Lloris 8-) has arrived - but the major shock is the breaking news that Clint Dempsey has signed a three-year deal for £6 million. Even allowing for the departure of VdV - this is a major surprise as he'll be competing for a place with Sigurdsson. Surely, Liverpool and Villa needed him more?

Rumours, on the BBC, that Spurs are still chasing Moutinho - which would really be the icing on the cake. Even as things stand, AVB really will blot his copybook for life if he can't do something decent with this squad.
