Reviewing the CL/EL Draw
If Brighton beat Millwall this weekend then it is going to seriously advantage Spurs (and disadvantage City) in the CL. City will have to play on Saturday 6/4 before the 1st leg on 9/4 while Spurs would have a blank weekend.
On the other hand, this would be good for FPL purposes. It would mean that City would be much more likely to rest players in the FAC on 6/4 (assumes they beat Swansea) rather than in DGW32. Especially if they don't draw United in the SF, but probably even then as United will also have CL the following week. So, strangely enough I think the CL draw makes City players more attractive because GW34 won't be hugely pressurised either as they have the favourable Tuesday-Wednesday CL schedule.
Spurs also have that favoured schedule and how useful they are going to be for FPL probably quite depends on the Brighton result. If Brighton lose to Millwall then GW33 onwards will be very nice for Spurs, no blanks, no great rotation pressure on GW34, a decent double to come in GW35 (well, one good game anyway) and a kind 36-38. If Brighton beat Millwall then it's less good for Spurs for immediate purposes because they'd then blank in GW33. But GW34 onwards look quite good for Spurs assets either way for those wildcarding then. If only one of the GW35 games wasn't mci. That's the off-putting bit. But Spurs tend to show up after the event and if City beat them over 2 legs in the CL (as expected) then it would be quite like Spurs to end the season strongly after that.
United have the dreaded Wednesday-Tuesday CL draw. That means 10/4 Barça, 13/4 GW34, 16/4 Barça. GW34 is the home game against West Ham and you'd have to expect severe rotation risk for that fixture, so much so that I'd say that United assets could well be next to useless after DGW32 (being that GW33 is blank, GW34 a big rotation risk and GW35-6 are very tough fixtures).
Liverpool also have the tougher CL schedule but a couple of conveniently-placed Friday games will help them a lot and they are also completely unaffected by the FAC or any fixture compression related to it. There will be a temptation for people to lose Liverpool assets when wildcarding in GW34 because they play Chelsea that week and then have no DGW in 35. Will be an interesting quandary for those setting up the GW35 BB because the budget released by shedding Liverpool players will go a long way but they may well find themselves scrabbling to get them back in GW36 and even the GW35 game is one in which they could do some serious damage.
Chelsea are a bit harder to assess. Obviously 31-33 are great for them given the excellent DGW32 (which is next to certain now) and no blanks. A lot depends on how strong a team Sarri wants to put out in the EL against Slavia Praha on 11/4. It was probably the easiest draw they could get (Praha are ranked 72 in Europe by UEFA) and the 1st leg is sandwiched tightly between GW33 (WHU) and GW34 (liv). My guess is that Sarri will continue to deploy the squad in the EL (for this game anyway), knowing that the 2nd leg is at home. The pressure may not be on for Chelsea until the SF stage and they may not be seriously affected for FPL purposes until GW37/38 (assuming they make the SF).
For Arsenal a lot depends on how the Napoli games go. There is no particular schedule pressure on them in GW32 & 33 and the fixtures are nice (though no DGW in 32). It is 34 (wat) when the pressure will hit, exactly the wrong moment for those wildcarding that week. And GW35, though it is a certain DGW of CPL wol, could be affected as well. Arsenal play the 2nd leg against Napoli 3 days before the 1st GW35 fixture and would then have to play again 3 days later (or maybe 4 days later if the Wolves game is played on a Thursday, which it might be). Who knows what will happen here? They might well be coming out of an extremely tough game against Napoli (you can't see them going through easily anyway) and that would create tiredness and rotation risk. They might well have been beaten in Italy and be somewhat demoralised. Either way it's bloody awkward for people like me that would consider the TC in 35 (when Arsenal have the best fixtures on paper). I'd almost go so far as to say that's a dead option as a result of the tough EL draw Arsenal have, quite different to what things would have looked like had they failed to go through last night.
All of this together pushes me in the direction that GW32 is just ideal for the FH the way things have come out. I think I will have to use it then, much as I'd like to TC Sterling that week. And that means I will probably end up using the TC in a SGW or going with Kane in GW35 when one of his games is away at City.

Re: R_NZ RMT Blog
After a lot of humming and hawing and calculating and all the rest and considering so many angles that my head hurts, I have made a single transfer for GW31 with my FT: Doherty Diop. Means I am rocking a 5-3-2 this week:
Fabianski
TAA Diop Rüdiger Maguire Robertson
Salah(c) Bacuna Maddison
Higuain Vardy(v)
Huddersfield have scored two goals in their last 9 games so there has to be a good chance that Diop pays off. Meanwhile, I quite doubt that Doherty will start twice in GW32 and the fixtures aren't great for Wolves then anyway. I'd have very much liked Wilson but couldn't get him without a hit and without losing someone I want for GW32.
This more or less settles it that I will play GW32 without the FH and TC Sterling. The 0.5m saved this week will help me to get Hazard & Aguero for -4 in GW32, which I may increase to a -8 to get a DGW GK, I'll see how I feel at the time. Possibly Foster if Palace beat Watford this weekend.

Re: R_NZ RMT Blog
Hi Ruth,
Do u mind sharing some of your Chelsea wisdom?
I’m preparing to FH GW32 (as many do) and contemplating the various Chelsea options for their great DGW.
Azpi/Luiz/Rudiger - this is also my preference order atm, mostly because I think Azpi is a sure starter. If all were guaranteed to start I would pick Luiz for his attacking threat.
Higuain - I actually watched only the last 30 minutes of the last match, but I heard he was pretty bad. I’m afraid that he wouldn’t start one of the matches after getting subbed off so early. I think that his recent form is mostly bad for his prospect to start both games, because with these 2 great fixtures he could have nice returns even with his mediocre form (if indeed starting both games).
Pedro - could be a really nice differential, heard he played well in the last game. I like him as a player and think he could explode on his day. He is also quite cheap so could be an interesting 4th mid. Question is how likely he is to start both games and how dangerous he really is. Would u prefer him as a mid in a 3-4-3 or a double Chelsea defence in a 4-3-3? (Or none of the above..)
Hazard - no brainer for me. Anything to consider in his regard?
Would appreciate any thought!

Re: R_NZ RMT Blog
Regards the defenders, I have Rüdiger and would probably stick with him if I used the FH. He's less likely to get rested than Luiz, though it's possible that either could be. Azpi could be as well if Zappa is fit but that's probably less likely.
I also have Higuain but plan to move him out for Aguero. I don't think he will start twice, Giroud may well get the Brighton game (and then the EL game the following week). Higuain didn't play badly against Everton but he didn't pull up any trees either.
Pedro is a good bet I think, though he probably won't start twice. But against the opposition, even 120 minutes could be enough for a decent return. Yes, he is a real goal threat if Chelsea get on a roll (and there's a fair chance they will against Brighton I'd say). I'd probably go with the 3-4-3 and Pedro because the upside is very worthwhile and clean sheets seem hard to come by at the moment. But it would be a close decision. Wouldn't you consider someone like Jota?
Agree about Hazard and have already transferred him in. He'll be in my team whether or not I use the FH. He could easily be subbed-off in both games though.

Why didn’t Rudiger play on GW25? Rest? And what about Luiz on 29?Ruth_NZ wrote:Regards the defenders, I have Rüdiger and would probably stick with him if I used the FH. If both were rested then surely it means Luiz is less likely to be rotated again soon, don’t u think?
Well, I am considering Jota (or Jimenez, although I think Batshuay might be a more interesting option), but I keep hearing on this sub that Wolves are likely to rotate players (I don’t really see a reason for them to do so, after examining their schedule, but I am still careful). So if both Pedro and Jota are rotation risks, I might prefer the player with the better fixtures, who surely is Pedro.Ruth_NZ wrote: Pedro is a good bet I think, though he probably won't start twice. Re: R_NZ RMT Blog
Yes, both rests. But Sarri is more careful about playing Luiz 3 times in a week than Rüdi. I guess that following Chelsea gives me a better idea than most what is going on outside of the PL fixtures. Luiz has been rested in some quite important cup games where Rüdiger played - for example Spurs(a) in the EFL SF. Neither has played much in the EL but in the 39 games Chelsea have played outside of that, Luiz has been rested or benched 7 times and Rüdi 3. I think that's a reasonable measure of their likelihood of not starting any particular game (and it makes sense as Rüdiger is 25 and Luiz 31).shmiro wrote:Why didn’t Rudiger play on GW25? Rest? Yes, Batshuayi would interest me too if on FH. As it is I have a choice between Higuain Aguero and Kamara Batshuayi and as I don't expect Higuain to start twice in GW32 I'd rather do the former.shmiro wrote:Well, I am considering Jota (or Jimenez, although I think Batshuay might be a more interesting option), but I keep hearing on this sub that Wolves are likely to rotate players (I don’t really see a reason for them to do so, after examining their schedule, but I am still careful). The Wolves/Watford rotation thing has become less predictable because both play Tuesday before a FAC SF on Sunday. I agree that the rotation pressure is now less than it might have been. Wolves don't have the biggest squad and I would tend to expect Jimenez & Jota to start both DGW games myself. But Jota may well get subbed-off early twice as well and probably won't play that many minutes more than Pedro (who, as you say, has better fixtures). The Wolves wingbacks are a different case, though, because they do have options there and Nuno has already shown a willingness to rotate them. And even Patricio may only get one game because if Ruddy is going to play the SF (as one assumes) then he may also be given the Burnley game to keep him sharp. Nuno has done something similar to that before as well.
Watford - who have a much bigger squad - I am much more confident will rotate quite considerably in the DGW, probably for the Fulham game which is their most attractive fixture. Gracia already did this before the QF (in fact a whole week before it) and he made it very plain then that the FAC is Watford's biggest priority this season. I wouldn't expect Deeney or Deulofeu to start twice and wouldn't be surprised to see almost wholesale changes against Fulham (as against City), possibly even including Foster if Gracia has decided to play Foster at Wembley.

Re: R_NZ RMT Blog
Yes, and no. But I always get it wrong with Milivojević because Palace get an unseemly proliferation of penalties. However, if Palace don't get a penalty in those 2 games then Milivojević has little chance of anything but appearance points and that's not worth 6.3m, I'd rather have Cairney + 1.7m. Or Jota, or Pedro.Sutter Kane wrote: You think Jota will start twice then? And wouldn't you prefer Milivojevic for a similar price?
Actually, I think Fulham are being overlooked for this DGW by the FH people. The Watford game could be quite good for them if Watford play a weakened team (as I expect). Mitrović already scored against Watford this season and could well repeat the trick this week. And as for the City game - well, it only takes Fulham to get a penalty, right?

Based on budget I was oscillating between Jota or Deulofeu as 4th mid, but now you've put Pedro into my thinking.
With both Jota and Deulofeu (tentatively) going off on international duty, I don't trust either of them to get 180 mins in the double.
If Brighton win against Southampton, they'll be on 36 points and all but safe. They might rest players against Chelsea to give it a proper go against City.

Mitrovic is terribly out of form though?
Looks like no goals or assists in the last 7, and one of their games is MCY, seems a very odd/brave pick?

OK, I am struggling with the detail of my plans for this week. So I am going to do a multiple-choice set of questions and see if it can bring some clarity. Here's the first one. Which is best 32-33?
A. Ryan SOU che, Boruc BUR -8
B. Guaita HUD tot, new -4
C. Fabianski EVE, che
Looks like B to me if Guaita plays all three games. But will he?

If Guaita plays all the games it is marginal between B and C but I'm not convinced he will. A is probably lowest risk and Fabianski has history in scoring well in unexpected games.

Re: R_NZ RMT Blog
After raising the idea of Pedro in here a while ago, I now have second thoughts. So I thought once again on other cheap options with a DGW.
Jota and Deulofeu are among the most popular options for this slot, and the main reason for avoiding them is the FA cup match the following week.
Deulofeu - watford have rotated heavily before the quarter final and Gracia has stated that the cup is of first importance for watford (according to u Ruth, would be happy to get the source as I couldn’t find it).
However, they have a very difficult game against Wolves and even if they win it then they would have to beat City in order to win the cup. All that, while they could reach Europa League from the 7th place (probably), which is much more realistic for them. In addition, they rotated against City because it was a lost battle anyhow, whereas the game against Fulham (which is the one in which we expect rotation) is a game they must win.
Jota - I don’t have too much to say on his issue, but we must remember that they have pretty nice gaps between each game (5 days before the cup match) and Jota didn’t even play in the international break.

Re: R_NZ RMT Blog
C for me. Not convinced Guaita starts both. Fab can get save pointsRuth_NZ wrote: ↑26 Mar 2019, 10:19 OK, I am struggling with the detail of my plans for this week. So I am going to do a multiple-choice set of questions and see if it can bring some clarity. Here's the first one. Which is best 32-33?
A. Ryan SOU che, Boruc BUR -8
B. Guaita HUD tot, new -4
C. Fabianski EVE, che
Looks like B to me if Guaita plays all three games. But will he?

Re: R_NZ RMT Blog
OK, thanks all. My tendency is C too unless it miraculously becomes clear that Guaita will start twice. So, how about this one? Which is best 32-33?
A. Kepa car BHA, WHU & Tomkins HUD tot, new -8
B. Fabianski EVE, che & Bacuna cry - & Maguire - hud
That one looks suspiciously like the -8 would be worthwhile, doesn't it?

Re: R_NZ RMT Blog
Will be very close I reckon. It really depends on the occasional clean sheet for mid-table teams and those are unpredictable. I’d say A has a small advantage.Ruth_NZ wrote:So, how about this one? Which is best 32-33?

Re: R_NZ RMT Blog
Whilst I don’t disagree (it’s close) is this the part of your team where a -8 is best spent?
