Re: Baganboy’s 38-week FPL journal
Thanks a lot guys. The last few years have been absolute pits - I'm probably of the age when the parents and uncles and aunts and such folks start becoming very old all at the same time.
FPL, FISO, and all of you, have been absolutely wonderful. Thank you.
.............................
Note 1:
A couple things -
I have absolutely been working out of my template - and have refined it a bit as well. Perhaps writing in details about everything would have to wait for the end-season; but especially for a volatile, stop-start season like this, it has worked a treat. But truth to be said - I have been godawfully lucky. Will share a few screenshots in the next few posts. It is 3 PM in India. Have put the boy off to sleep a while back (with a baby T-Rex and baby Triceratops and baby Stegosaurus story that Dr Seuss would be proud of), and why not write a bit?
Couple points.
1. I have had as many as five players in my team permanently - GK2 (Pope and Button - more on Pope later); TAA, Salah, and KDB. Robertson was there for almost the full haul too - dropped him for a couple GWs, and got him back soon enough. Ergo, never had Mane.
2. Have played a 4-3-3 as often as I could. Started the season with a 4-5-1 and then as the season moved on, I realised that a second striker (Abraham) and then a third striker would be required, so changed track. Lost Mids to upgrade strikers.
3. Took 3 price hits. Not too many.
4. Have been price conscious all season. I think being price conscious is part of my natural game. And this season, the natural game was essential.
5. Was helped by the template quite a bit in keeping hold of Pope especially - for any 5-game stretch my target for Pope was 20 points (4 ppg), and if you assume the first 3 games as the shorter sub-season, Pope has been pretty consistently keeping up to the number {13/12; 19/20, 22/20, 15/20, 20/20, 18/12(so far)}
6. Captaincy was a mixed bag. my captains have got on an average, 7 points per game. Which is bang average, per my template. So I am happy that I have kept par here (helped immensely by the recent boost by Salah)
7. I have realised that there are only two ways in which I have played - that have enabled me to have good seasons. 1. When I am laser focused. Every move is judged, planned and meticulously researched. 1 hour a day at least, multiple podcasts listened to, all kinds of stats pored into. i.e. the Day Trading way to play FPL. 2. Instinctively. I have played the game forever - I think I can sense a bad move from a good one. I have solidly been camped on style 2 this season. The Mutual Funds way to play FPL.
8. I have only updated the template regularly on Sunday night, and listened to 2 podcasts every week - FFS and Always Cheating. That has been the only FPL activity every week.
9. I have not watched much football at all - pretty much only the Arsenal games (and I have hardly had Arsenal players).
10. Not much stats too. One of the nicest people at FISO has been kind enough to give me some numbers (no details), and I have resorted to those numbers once a couple weeks or so - That has been amazing; pretty much ideal for the Mutual Funds guy that I have become this season.
11. Basically, I have been supremely lucky so far. Transfers have worked out. My natural risk-averseness has been rewarded. The template is at last in a shape that it can be a bit of an anchor in a volatile season such as this. Basically, so far, chips have fallen my way. Not too much in the way of good play.

Re: Baganboy’s 38-week FPL journal
Please note: Salah and Sterling etc have all been put as 11M mids - because the mid numbers, even now, are horribly skewed by that crazy season by 9M Salah 2 seasnos ago. 11M = 34 points every 5 GWs i.e. 6.8 ppg seemed rational.

Thanks a lot, SP, for the support. Appreciated! And to you too...
................................................................
Note 4: Positional performances. (only up to GW 25)
Please note: this is not the direct points by mids, defs and strikers that you get at statistico, for example.
Situation: if I have played a 4-3-3 with Mahrez, and he has not played a gameweek, and a 4M defender with 1 point has replaced him - that is a 1 point for a 8.5M mid slot, and not a 1 point defender slot in my calculation.

Note 5: This is a new addition - from GW 11 onwards, I had made a table of how I had progressed in comparison with rank milestones. Pretty easy to do, picked straight from Statistico - but very illuminating, I thought.

Note 6:
Another change to the model. I have moved away from the 2500 target setting, in the model. Now it's just point benchmarks for individual slots in the team.
Theoretically, I would not move players out of slots (Note 2 and 3) if they are making par or near-par sub-season-on-sub-season.

Thanks a great lot for your kind words, ONZ.
I am especially keeping my fingers crossed for the Divisionals. Have never ever won a Premiership, won a lot of Championships and League Ones, and would fingers crossed, get a chance to change that sometime... Thanks for hosting it this season.

Note 7: Twitter / Telegram
Apart from FISO, which is home --- as you know, I had made tentative steps at Twitter last season. I have engaged a bit more this season - but have come to a conclusion that FPL Twitter is not for me. I am not a twitter person at all. I would stick on there though, but mostly to get information.
There has been a nice thing that's happened though. On Telegram (It's like WhatsApp, only blue, not green ), a group has been set up, called India FPL Chat - the name being quite self-explanatory. I was a little wary about sharing my mobile number, but happened to eventually join in - I am a sales guy - really, privacy is not my thing, and I have three mobile numbers .
That has been really nice too. I do not jump in too often, but am happy to be there...
I remember, at a time, I was kinda the only person in my known circle who even knew what on earth FPL was. India used to have five thousand odd people participating (on my #212 year, I was #1 in India - easy peasy!)... And now, even here at FISO, there are such amazing FPL posters with links to India - SirMattBugsby is a wonderful poster, who I am glad to have interacted with here. Redsnout is originally from my country too - a super FPL player and thinker, and a friend.

My father-in-law - a really kind, gentle, tough-as-nails, self-made man, has just left us a couple days ago. Suffered for a while, so the eventual death is not an absolute shock, but there is sadness. I got along with him - he liked the kind of unfashionable things that I liked - watching test cricket from the ground and not from the telly; collecting kinda expensive but gauche, uncool and absolutely useless trinkets (Wisdens for me, coins for him), and table-slapping discussions about Indian politics over cups of steaming tea.
My wife is of course devastated - would need to support her for a bit.
