Ideal Team Set Up 'till XMas

Post by CptPugwash »

First thing what works better 352 or 433.
My belief is that 2 midfielders definitely outscore 1 defender and 1 forward for the same price. However this is compensated to some degree in that 433 gives better rotation potental especially in the forwards where you want it most.

I know in our teams that the 352's are outscoring the 433's. Whether thats down to choosing better midfielders over forwards (e.g. generally having Cisse over Ba) and a lack of clean sheets, or 352 is intrisically better I'm not certain. I'm edging to 352, so i'm going to pick the ideal team on that basis, though much of the thought process is similar.

Forwards. - It goes without saying that with only 3 forwards they should all be from different teams except in exceptional temporary circumstances.

Option 1. Cisse or Ba - Newcastle coverage gives you Sunday/Monday weeks 8-11, 13 15&16.
Any other 2 strikers gves full rotation until week 12.
Option 1a. Fletcher (or transferring him in week 12) Sunderland conveniently play Sunday week 12, 14 (&8,15) overlapping week 15 isn't an issue given the other 2 teams playing week 15 Sunday are Norwich & Wigan.
Any other striker gives full rotation until week 17.
Option 1b. Carroll (or transferring him in week 11 or 12) West Ham play Sunday/Monday week 12,17 (&13,16)
Fallbacks with this. Week 13 trebles up Sunday with Torres, Man C, Spurs or Suarez. Week 14 - limited choice for Sunday. Week 16 trebles up Sunday with just about every choice striker under the sun.So at least 1 more transfer to sort it out.
Option 1c. Cisse/Ba  Fletcher week 12. but allows full rotation with just about any combo until week 17.
Option 1d Cisse/Ba  Fletcher week 14 Misses week 12 (unless you have Berb or Crouch) and really only works well with Van P (or Rooney).

EDIT - Just noticed the danger of trebling up Sundays week 9 & 11. To avoid this
starting line of Cisse/Ba Van P/Rooney Aguero Keeps all the options open, and avoids the trebling up week 9 & 11.

Forwards

Option 2 - Jelavic. Sunday cover week 8 & 9 (& 16 if he's still in the team :!: )

Option 2a - Suarez Sunday cover 9,10,11 & 13. Limits the choices of 3rd striker however to avoid trebling up week 9.
2a(i) - Aguero (or Tevez) full rotation 'till week 11. Necessitates the transferring in of Fletcher week 12 to cover weeks 12,14 & 15.
2a(ii) - Fletcher full rotation 'till week 17. Jelavic/Suarez/Fletcher is relatively cheap gives full rotation but needs to fire as they wouldn't be expected to pick up as many win bonuses as other bigger combo's.

Option 2b - Random Sunday cover for week 10. only really viable if plenty transfers left.
In week 10 for the Sunday game and out week 11 afer the Saturday game one of the following 4 options.
QPR (REA sto) , REA (qpr NOR), SOT (wba SWA) or WBA (SOT wig)

Forwards

Option 3 - Fletcher Sunday cover 8, 12, 14 & 15.

Option 3a - Suarez perfect fit Sunday cover 9-11 13 & 16. Allows the choice of any other striker with full rotation 'till week 17. (If you think Swansea & Danny Graham can start scoring takes you all the way to the next transfer window :!: )
Option 3b - Defoe/Adebayor :?: as liverpool except for week 10. Either take the Sunday hit or random transfer options as Option 2.

Forwards summary.

Remarkable that in almost every scenario, Fletcher is a common theme. Whether he should be transferred in now, week 12 or week 14. (He probably also has the bonus of Reading at home sometime in December which hasn't been factored in).

If you haven't got Cisse/Ba/Fletcher or Jelavic (or QPR Cisse  ) I would suggest that it has to be worth a transfer to get 1 in Sunday morning. Which 1 depends on our view of their relative merits & your current strikers.

I would suggest Jelavic only if you are keeping Suarez or you really fancy Everton as much stronger than Sunderland or Newcastle.
Fletcher is the best option with limited transfers especially with Suarez and/or Defoe/Adebayor.
Ba/Cisse is the most flexible without Suarez (if you can pick the right one)

I'll have a look now at Captaincy planning.

Lets first look at the scenario we have enough Captaincy Changes/Spare Transfers to get 2 Captains per match week till the New Year. We are looking for the best combo every week of Sunday/Monday game one week followed by Saturday game the next week, so we can switch Captains every Sunday.
Lets hope we have a Saturday Cpt going in to week 9 (Not the case in most of my Teams)

wk 9/10 Preferred Option Spurs (sot WIG) Back-up Everton (LIV ful) Chelsea (MUN swa)
wk 10/11 Preferred Option West Brom (SOT wig) Back-up Reading (qpr NOR)
wk 11/12 P.O. Man City (TOT AV) Back-up Newcastle (WH SWA)
wk 12/13 Tricky choice 3 options Fulham (SUN sto) Sunderland (ful WB) Stoke (wh FUL)
wk 13/14/15. There is no Sunday to Saturday switch available so we are looking at a 3 game run here
wk 13/14/15 P.O. Chelsea (MCY FUL wh) Back-up Spurs (WH LIV ful)
wk 14/15 P.O. Man Utd (WH rea) Back-up Chelsea (FUL wh)
wk 15/16 Not a very attractive 3-way choice Norwich (SUN swa) Sunderland (nor CHE) Wigan (new QPR)
wk 16/17 P.O. Liverpool (wh AV) Back-up Everton (TOT sto)
wk 17/18 P.O. Spurs (SWA STO) Back-up Arsenal (rea wig)
wk 18/19 P.O. Chelsea (AV nor) Back-up Man Utd (swa NEW)

Very few teams are going to be able to do all 10 switches, so next I'll look at the best 3-game stretches to reduce the switches.

The best 3 game stretches start on Sunday/Monday and finish on Saturday.

wk 9/10/11 Preferred Option Everton (LIV ful SUN) Back-up Man U (che ARS av)
wk 10/11/12 P.O. QPR (REA sto SOT) Back-up Newcastle (Liv WH SWA)
wk 11/12/13 No Teams play wk 11 Sunday/Monday & wk 13 Saturday.
wk 12/13/14 Only Option Sunderland (ful WB QPR)
wk 13/14/15 P.O. Chelsea (MCY FUL wh) Back-up Spurs (WH LIV ful)
wk 14/15/16 P.O. Chelsea (FUL wh sun) Back-up Arsenal (Eve SWA WB)
wk 15/16/17 P.O. Norwich (SUN swa WIG) Back-up Newcastle (WIG ful MCY)
wk 16/17/18 P.O. Liverpool (wh AV FUL) Back-up Man City (MUN new REA) Spurs (eve SWA STO)
wk 17/18/19 P.O. Spurs (SWA STO av) Back-up Arsenal (rea wig WH).

I am now going to demonstrate the planning with an actual team.

Hart/Cech
Vermaelen/Baines/Vertongen/Nelsen
Bale/Ben Arfa/Pienaar/Nolan/Cazorla/Michu
Van Persie*/Tevez/Ba.

Cost 99.5m Transfers 8 Cpt Changes 5

weakness -limited big3 Exposure, 1 dodgy defender.

Rotates till week12 No defensive or forward cover for that Sunday game.

Captaincy Plans.
wk 9/10 MUN-Van P (che ARS)
wk 10/11 WB-Morrison (SOT wig) Cpt change
wk 11/12 NEW-Ba (WH SWA) Cpt change
wk 12/13/14 SUN-Fletcher (ful WB QPR) Transfer from Ba
wk 14/15 MUN-Van P (WH rea) Cpt change
wk 15/16 NOR-Holt (SUN swa) Transfer from Van P
wk 16/17 LIV-Suarez (wh AV) Transfer from Holt
wk 17/18 TOT-Bale (SWA STO) Cpt change
wk 18/19 CHE-????? (AV nor) Cpt change

The Transfer from Van P to Holt looks strange, but,
(i) Man U are away to Man C wk 16 Sunday
(ii) Limited choice for the 15/16 weeks.
(iii) A good daisy chain to get in Suarez for wk16.

These changes give my Forward line full rotation till Wk 17 when my planned fwd line of:-
Suarez/Tevez/Fletcher all play on Saturday.

Further planned changes to this team.

defence.
Nelsen QPR's next 4 are (ars REA sto SOT) which isn't too bad after the opening fixture.
The plan is to bring in a sunderland defender sunday wk12.(switching Ba to Fletcher at the same time funds the transfer).
EVE ARS TOT SUN then rotate until week 18, switching the chosing SUN defender to MUN Sunday wk16 completes the rotation.

Midfield.
well it turns out I can't afford the planned Pienaar to Morrison transfer.
So instead Pienaar to Lallana (TOT wb SWA qpr NEW NOR) & Lallana gets the armband wk 10/11 Leftfield or what :!:
The midfield has full rotation until wk18 except for the troublesome Saturday wk14 Fixtures. (SUN v QPR, AV v REA).
The question is, is there a midfielder in those 4 teams to justify a transfer on?

So thats the plans. All 5 Captaincy changes, 6 of the 8 Transfers Left, with 2 for contingencies.
Off course the best laid plans and all that are still subject to injuries, suspensionsd the whims of Mancini, AVB & the likes.

Well I hope some folks got on Bale for the Preferred captaincy switch for last Sunday/this Saturday. It certainly hoisted a few of my times up the leaderboard, & hopeful a bit more today.

This week, if you dont like your Captains fixture next week, or if even if it's OK & You have plenty subs/captaincy changes available. This weeks Monday switch recommendation.
Lukaku or Morrison for WBA (SOT monday, then wig Saturday). The choice comes down to who your Captain currently is, if either is in your team currently, if you want to use a sub or captain change, & personal preference.

For anyone with Bale as Cpt & Morrison not in the side, i'd defo sub Bale  Morrison.
Spurs next 2 games after Wigan at home are mcy, ars :!:
