Redundancy question
Boo - the training company I work for is experiencing financial difficulties so a number of assessors need to write down the reasons why they should be kept on.
Much that I hate this process I like the job so .....
At the friendly chat the other day, it was mentioned that the proposed pittance was based on the fact I'd been there less than two years. It turns out that I have been there over two years (based on my 1st payslip)
Would this make much difference?
No union or HR so I'm a bit at a loss here

Re: Redundancy question
I think statutory is 1 week per year?
Depends if your company operates its own scheme?
But I can't imagine they change their terms massively beyond 2 years?

Re: Redundancy question
Can't remember for sure, but it might be possible that if you're there less than 2 years, you get a max amount, but over 2 years, it's a bit more according to a formula.

Re: Redundancy question
Yes you're right
Thought I should look it up for myself -
‘statutory redundancy payment’.
To be eligible, an individual must:
be an employee working under a contract of employment
have at least 2 years’ continuous service
The feeble settlement is just the holiday owed so that's why the chap said I had been there for less than two years - a lie to save peanuts.
Having to beg to keep my job is something I can't do on reflection. I'm too old to grovel and really the place is in such a state it really is time to go. Should have twigged earlier when the owner came to a meeting and said that he owned us - inspirational

'Twas the Chief Exec handing out the bad news to me - nasty piece of work.
That said, it was the best thing that could have happened to me. Now in a much better job, decent boss, closer to home etc.
The same could well happen to you, so grab their pathetic offer and run!

Fk that Jim. He owns you. What a tool. had a guy like that come in my last job that's when I switched off and did as little as possible and stole as much as possible. I don't get these people that think work is everything. Don't they realise that your only at the shithole to provide for your family etc.

Re: Redundancy question
Join a union Jim.
I was in Unite for around six months and they were a great help.
It carries more clout in discussions and they will help you with general queries.
Redundancy depends on you age too.

Re: Redundancy question
Yesterday was the last day so I've started looking for another job
Came across an advert for an IT assessor at the same company.
Is that legal?
Not one thank you or good luck - wasn't expecting a gold watch but feel annoyed. They just got Investors in People status too.

Re: Redundancy question
If it's a different titled job (and slightly different job spec), then I think it is.

Re: Redundancy question
No but when I asked about it, the job is covering a different area.
When I heard that redundancies were coming I actually applied for this job not realising it was my job
The agency is owned by the MD of the company - wonder if they grassed me up

Re: Redundancy question
If that's how they do business, you are better off out. I'd leave a shitty glassdoor/indeed review if I were you.
