did you change your locks when you moved in?

Post by Stick »

rite me and the wife have been discussing if people actually change their locks when they move into a new house, everyone says they will, we did (say) for both houses but never had them changed!

I rekoned 40% of people actually do but she rekoned on 5%! 5% my foot but I thought I'd conduct an experiment on the fiso massive.

so who did actually change their locks then?

Yes, of course.

I know we got 2 sets of keys from the estate agent, but there's no way of saying how many more copies have been made.

BTW, first house we bought, we had an intruder within the first week of moving in. Strictly speaking, it wasn't an intruder into the house, but into the garden. The previous owner sneaked back in the early hours, and dug up all his veg that he'd been growing in the garden. Our neighbour saw him, but didn't do anything about it.

Can't you just change the tumblers inside instead of the entire lock...? Or is that what people are talking about here?

Never even thought of that  Bought our house off an old lady but very good point. I'd also probably want to dig up all the shrubs/perenial plants that I've put into the garden. Although I'd just say that I was going to take them as opposed to going back and stealing them :o

I think its less than 5%

My locks are now changed but only because i have put in a conservatory with new doors and later a new front door but these were done after a year or so of moving in.

yeah include that as well, could be a little cheaper but unlikely you could do it yourself unless u can repin a lock.

What would happen insurance wise - if say you were burgled by someone and they had a key? Say you'd moved house and there was a few copies of your key floating around? Some dodgy fella decided to sell it to someone down the pub etc etc....
