Matching paint in a photo (Spencer4's pussy)

Post by Wyld »

Here's a question that perhaps the more graphic-design-savvy can help me answer:

How do I match the colours in this image to wall paint for our new bedroom?

Image

I tried to match the colours by memory at the paint shop and ended up with an unholy disaster of a room that my wife refuses to enter!

Is there someway of getting close to the paint colours just from this image?

Is there someone with Hero like super powers who can maych this image by eye?

The DIY shops claim to be able to mix any paint colour from a sample (if you trust that to be accurate - I've never tried it). Maybe you could print the photo on a decent printer and take it in?

It's not foolproof in fact it may be rubbish :D but I've just sampled it in Photoshop and got these colour splits Red 199 Green 170 Blue 125 for the centre of the panel and Red 173 Green 149 Blue 130 for the bownyish outside.

I think if you recreate the colours from those results you cannot be far away from the photos at least. Probably :?

Looks like a combination of odd coloured poo and puke to me

Try taking some in?

In case anyone ever finds this thread again, here is the solution that I came up with.

First I opened the photo in PaintShopPro (vers 4 free download).

Then I used the eye dropper tool to sample the lightest areas.

THen I entered the RGB values here, selecting NCS as my target colour range.

(NCS is used here in Sweden.)

I brought the paint from the local paint shop and the colours are interesting, although a little on the orangy side perhaps.

Still it's close enough. Thanks for everyone's contribution on this.

Didn't I say thank you?

Well, thank you anyway, for the first half of the answer, which was very good, and not in anyway only half an answer at all. As my way of showing appreciation to your Royal wiskeriness, here are your colours as NCS paint colours:

Like hell I am :o

Of course those readings aren't totally accurate because they are differences within the range (pixel breaking up etc), but it's close I suppose.
