LED lights
Can I shove an LED bulb into a normal light fitting or do I need new light fittings?

Re: LED lights
Can get issues on dimmers (even with LEDs that say they're dimmable) but otherwise yes, assuming you don't mean 'shoving it in' literally

Re: LED lights
I don't have dimmers as I just turn the light off if I don't need it. By shoving I do mean the technical term of screwing it into the socket
How good are they at emitting light? I have a 3 light spot light thing with 40w bulbs so want it to at least be as bright.

Re: LED lights
If you get one that claims to be equivalent to 40W it will probably seem dimmer so go for one claiming to be equivalent to 50-60 if you can.

Re: LED lights
Cheers guys.
I guess I can't mix and match LED and normal bulbs in a 3 bulb light?

I fell for this eco lighting thing. My eyesight seemed to be deteriorating as I went on through life. Then I had a brain wave, I upped the wattage and I can see again It's amazing technology isn't it.

Re: LED lights
Nothing to 'fall' for. Less power, run cool and you don't have to change the frigging bulbs all the time.
Not everything is a government conspiracy Jimmy. Not even lightbulbs

Re: LED lights
With LED's the light output is all about lumens, around 350lumens should be 5w in LED terms which will be around 40 watt of your previous halogens.
You buy LEDs in a few different colour outputs warm White- more yellow like a convention halogen lamp or there are Cool White which are a quite harsh brillianT white

It's reducing he changes I want more than anything. I have to change these normal bulbs every 3 months as they blow so often

The colour thing is useful to know. I would have just gone for cool white and then moaned they were too harsh.
