Out of hospital
Escaped the local hospital, the notorious Derriford after double biopsy. Initial reaction by surgeon encouraging though 2 weeks to test results. Thing is its made me dulaly. Bought shed loads of TFFE teams, dont know what to do with them now, and though still in pain, cant stop feeling euphoric. Coming round from the general anesthetic was surreal and fun. Other thing is suddenly I can taste everything in extreme detail, like Greg Wallace on steroids, its thrilling and exciting. Whole experience though is overwhelmingly humbling and what some have to go through is nerve clenching. If I get better soon, what I do with my time will change. Wow, life hangs by a thread.

All the best mephisto.
I wonder how many of this lot know what "dulaly" means?

Re: Out of hospital
I don't know the history to this mephisto but my very best wishes for, hopefully, a speedy recovery.
Incidentally, the word is "doolally", and since the question was raised, here's a cut and paste about its derivation:
After Deolali, a small town in western India. It's about 100 miles from Mumbai with an unusual claim to fame. It's where British soldiers who had completed their tour of duty were sent to await transportation home. It was a long wait -- often many months -- before they were to be picked up by ships to take them to England. Consequent boredom, and heat, turned many a soldier insane, and the word doolally was coined. At least that's the story.

Re: Out of hospital
... and suddenly I was whisked back to a former job. Back in the dim & distant I used to work for a company that ran the newsagent's inside Derriford hospital (Branch 304 it was). The rent we paid was £65,000 pa rising by £5,000 pa. Then one day WH Smiths came along and bought us out and instantly offered £130,000 as rent when the Trust were quite happy with the rent we had been paying. Surprisingly the Trust accepted their offer. Well done WH Smiths. I believe they put the price of everything up in the shop by 40-50% so they could afford to pay this extra rent.mephisto wrote:Escaped the local hospital, the notorious Derriford ...
Anyway, enough of all this. It sounds like you've come out of the other side better than when you went in. Enjoy the thrills (?) of Euro 2012. At least it beats watching Jeremy Kyle on daytime TV.
