COVID - 19 This isn't the way it's supposed to work is it?

Post by Spinynorman »

To cut a very long story short my father in law is in an isolation ward with COVID - 19. Mrs Spiny and her sister who have been caring for him on a daily basis have been told by the hospital to self isolate for 7 days. My sister in law has contacted work to inform them (she works on the post office counter in WH Smiths) and has been told that she must come into work.

If this is going to happen on a regular basis it sort of makes the government guidelines a waste of space.

Post it on WH Smiths facebook, twitter, instagram pages, along with branch and manager's name, should be an opening for promotion before the shop opens tomorrow!

Good luck. But why on earth are we not focussing Isolation and NHS capability on them I will never know. (At least until someone under 60 dies with none of the associated conditions so far found.)

Seriously that is the thing to do. Spread it on any local social media you can find.

WH Smiths surely know this is wrong (and will have the correct policy) but they need to know they aren't passing the message well enough down the chain to numpty managers.

I have now found out that the branch manager is okay with the self isolation but is being told by people further up the chain not to allow it.

On a different note my daughter has received a text message from my granddaughters school stating that self isolation is not an excuse not to go to school. I know that schools are being treated as a special case in all of this but it still feels a bit odd. :?

So the manager at WHS is a member of FISO (and has read this), but the people higher up the ladder aren't members.

Just try and keep him inside and stocked up with food and medication. Trouble is, that generation are pretty fearless and he will be difficult to monitor 24 hrs.

Luckily my Mom will give him his daily orders and he'll have to forego his daily trip to get his Daily Mail.
A lot of dailys in that sentence.

So is it wrong (ok how wrong πŸ˜‚) to deliberately cough when walking past someone wearing one of those stupidly thin mouth mask things?

Why would you even think about doing that? - not even remotely funny.

... and while those thin masks don't stop the virus they're not doing any harm and can at least help prevent you touching your face.

After the threat of disciplinary action my sister in law is back at work today and will be serving many pensioners in the process. I wonder how wide spread this sort of scenario is playing out?

It all gets stranger. My son in law was sent home from work and told to self isolate for 14 days but has now been told that he has to go in to work tomorrow.

Weird times indeed.

Tiny Spiny's school now shut for 2 weeks due to staff shortages taking them down to dangerous levels. Makes you wonder whether officially closing schools might be better than letting them limp on and then close anyway?

Still in an isolation ward but doing okay thanks.

As is always the case they are not giving much away over the telephone and visiting is a no go.

The other stuff is just me having a frustrated whinge.

Glad he's doing ok :)

The "other stuff aside" was not directed at you, this thread or anything else I may have read here but more a "i haven't read everything but just want to get back to the opening post" sort of thing.

Thanks for asking. Unfortunately he's very poorly at the moment and may not make it through the night. There are family with him at the moment. It's all a bit grim really isn't it. :(
