Your recommended running tunes

Post by golden bear »

As someone who does a fair bit of treadmill running and therefore needs to be distracted/motivated by music, I was wondering about others favourite running tracks. Personally my favourite run ending track is:

Rage Against the Machine: Killing in the Name Of.

Also like:
Camisra: Let Me Show You and Todd Edwards: No Place Quite Like London.

Recently discovered: NOFX: The Decline. Which is interesting.

So, any recommendations for my New Year blitz?

I'm often running in a really nice place, lovely countryside or mountain or something, when I end up wshing my music wasn't so miserable, lots of old punk etc, but I do like:

Joy Division, love will tear us apart
Blondie - atomic
Many Carter USM songs

and, surprisingly even to me, Black Coffee and Pure Shores by All Saints.

...will look for more later

Incidentally, Song 2 by blur is 180 bpm, which is the correct number of steps to take when running - try it! Hey Ya is also, but as far as I can tell that would involve something fast then slow intermittently.

I don't run with music but when I used to go the gym/treadmill I flled an iPod shuffle with loads of lively stuff, from old punk /new wave via indie to lad rock / britpop type stuff. Got several hundred albums in my iTunes library so just cherry picked what was suitable. I ended up creating a playlist that was too big for my Shuffle's memory so I could randomly refill it every now and then and get a change of tracks.

Song 2, Carter and RATM were all on there!

Love Will Tear Us Apart isn't lively enough! (Spookily Radio 6 just started playing Control as I write this - even slower!)

Mrs m tried a different approach and bought cheap high energy dance music compilations for her shuffle. Worked for her...

When running my first half marathon last year I remember trying to keep pace with faster runners while listening to Elastica "Connection". Never really found Dance music consistently does it for me.
