The Thorpedo is Gay

Post by Kdub »

Ian Thorpe has come out of the closet...

I always wondered why they called him the Thorpedo

Now that name has a deeper meaning.

He used to move through the water like a torpedo thus 'Thorpedo'.

Why does it have deeper meaning because he's gay?

And why have you posted this in Health & Fitness?

I don't understand, what's the deeper meaning behind his name?

He must become the Thorpedo when Phelps or Lochte are in the pool...

I spoke to him briefly at the last Olympics. He said in Beijing that he wasn't fond of that nickname. Maybe it left him at the Butt end of too many jokes. Who knows.

Great swimmer and that's all that matters. Obviously had a lot of issues coming to terms with his sexuality, hence the depression.

I wish him all the best.

Do we know that hiding his sexuality was linked to his depression or are people making the assumption?
