Do you remember how hard it was when you first tried to run 5k at all?

You could dial it back for sure, or you could keep pushing. As long as you're not damaging your body in the attempt to go 11.5 then sure you may not finish a run or two, but just like when you first failed to do it at all, you'll be forcing your body to adapt even quicker to the new pace and soon enough you'll be doing 11.5k with the same (dis)comfort levels as you now do 10.5
I have had a little change of plan with getting my endurance up. Before I was just going for a PB every one or two weeks when I felt confident with steady jogging in between.
Recently over the last maybe 3 weeks I have been doing shorter distances at a much faster pace so when it comes to trying to run 5km PBs then it feels a much easier pace. I'm going to carry on with this and see if it continues to work out

I still hate running but I know its doing me good so persevering with it. And as you mention - at first I struggled to run 5km now I'd say 28 minute 5kms are reasonably comfortable and I just have to push beyond that.

Yeah don't worry about pushing yourself to a point where you can go no further. That is the bit of the exercise that makes the difference! If you just run within yourself you make slower progress.

First the positive.....

2k Row
08/01/2014 = 9 47sec
11/01/2014 = 8min 25.2sec
10/02/2014 = 8min 10sec
05/03/2014 = 7min 51sec
Yesterday = 7min 40sec :)

Good 2 hour session at the gym yesterday, really happy with the two PB's I have set this week on treadmill and rowing machine.

Now onto a bad confession...

I have been honest throughout this thread so i am going to own up to a 20+ pint a session last night. But it was only the second Friday night I have had out in 2014, I enjoyed it and good to catch up with the lads so not regretting it (one off honestly!)

Yesterdays food consisted of one slice of mackerel on granary Toast for breakfast, egg salad for lunch and chicken with roasted veg for evening meal. No midnight kebab which would usually follow a heavy pint session so hopefully this along with the gym yesterday will counter the fermented apple juice!

Results on the scales to follow....

20k bike
07/01/2014 = 38m 14s
22/01/2014 = 37m 00s
06/02/2014 = 36m 40s
10/02/2014 = 34m 46s
24/02/2015 = 34m 33s
06/03/2014 = 33 min 34s
19/03/2014 = 33min 01s
Tonight = 32min 06s :shock:

Surprised myself again with this. Every time I do this I don't feel like its possible to go faster but smashed it again! This time was set with a shoelace and peddle coming together too about 13km in which probably lost 10-15 seconds to undo. I am even starting to think that sub 30 minute may even be in my capabilities eventually :!:

Panic time. We are passed halfway with only 11 weeks to go

Day 1.
Weight: 19st 6lb
BMI: 33.16

Day 91
Weight: 17St 3lb
BMI: 29.37

78 days to go
Lost this week 2lb
Weight loss to date = 31lb
Target weight = 16st
Remaining to lose = 17lb

Pretty good week. Ive eaten healthy and no alcohol but if I am being honest I could have done more exercise. (Only 3 gym sessions last week compared to usual 5+)

With Forest's season over and all fantasy football comps and teams totally messed up and lost interest too then my focus is purely on this. I'm desperate to get below 16 stone by the wedding, but I have doubted myself all the way through this if I could actually do it but in just over 11 weeks time I will be sat on a cuban beach (hopefully looking slimmer/more toned!) with mojito in hand as a newly married man so failure is not an option.

Big push from here on in :P

It is warming up now (well OK it is a tad chilly today   ) but swimming might help, especially if you are not looking to build muscle.

Also proper cycling - you should have saved a load of cash from freeing yourself from your alcoholic masochism

Chest
Day 1 = 50"
8th Feb = 47"
27th Feb = 45"
21st March = 46" :?
Today = 45"

Waist
Day 1 = 43"
8th Feb = 42"
27th Feb = 41.5"
21st March = 40.5"
Today = 40"

I think I must have measured my chest wrongly on 27th Feb as now back to 45 inch :?

I wore the jeans that did not fit from xmas for the first time last night along with a shirt I like that has never fit and it felt good!

I think I will try swimming, its included in the gym membership so won't cost anything. I am too bulky/musclar already so I definitely don't want to build muscle (mine is just slightly hidden by a couple of inches of fat  )

I don't know why I keep putting off stepping outside away from the gym :? Running I know is because I hate it but cycling I don't know why?? I don't own a bike and it maybe a wise investment but even with the pub money I have saved there is no spare cash floating about being so close to the wedding and with Mrs nffc wedding spending faster than I can earn it

But swimming yes definitely. Will go a couple of days next week before work 8-)

Yep. Its the best way to notice it yourself imo as lbs/kgs are just numbers. I still have half a wardrobe that don't fit though. maybe one day....

I struggled at the gym today for some reason. I found 10km bike and only 10 min on the crosstrainer both difficult for some reason and was about 10-20% below usual pace. Then in the weights room I was again more than 10% below recent strength.

Decided I had done sh#t and need to set a PB on something to make amends so onto the 'lovely' treadmill for half an hour of 'pleasure' :?

5km treadmill
08/01/2014 = Only managed 3.5km
14/01/2014 = 30m 50s
22/01/2014 = 30m 16s
06/02/2014 = 29m 48s
12/02/2014 = 29m 45s
20/02/2014= 29m 21s
25/02/2014 = 28m 42s
27/02/2014 = 28m 33s
05/03/2014 = 27m 48s
26/03/2014 = 27m 26s
Today = 27m 03s :D

It killed me again but I can definitely do better than that. Even with the above PB I felt 10-20% below par throughout my whole gym session today and I have no clue why? I am not tired or injured, not overdone work or the gym this week, not drank a drop of alcohol since Saturday, diet has been good but I have not starved myself, I made sure I have drank loads of water, so maybe just an off day?

I took up Blahs suggestion and went swimming Tuesday morning before work. I quite enjoyed the change and I would never have considered getting out of my nice warm bed at that time in the morning for the torture machines at the gym so I plan to go for a swim again in the morning :P

Ill try and keep up going a couple of days a week before work :D

Day 1.
Weight: 19st 6lb
BMI: 33.16

Day 98
Weight: 17St 1lb
BMI: 29.16

71 days to go
Lost this week 2lb
Weight loss to date = 33lb
Target weight = 16st
Remaining to lose = 15lb

Last 4 weeks have been slow (1lb, 1lb, 2lb, 2lb) but steadily getting there. 10 weeks to go so i need to keep up this average 1.5lb per week from here.
So still on target for 16 stone therefore no need to change anything yet but I may consider someting drastic when we get to the final month for a bigger push.

Apoligies for lack of recent updates. I not disappeared completely!

Been visiting family over easter til I got back Wednesday night. Ill update properly at the weekend but after an extended weekend of mainly socialising with everything that brings then I will be more than happy to have stayed the same. A quick check on my dodgy bathroom scales suggests I am about the same but I never go by what they say as they are not the most accurate.

Yes. My grandad was visiting from spain so been to the other side of Glasgow to see him and some other family. I normally visit spain at least a 4 or 5 times a year but with Mrs nffc spending all my money on the wedding I have not been since last September. So he has seen the full before and after.

Results from the scales....

Day 1.
Weight: 19st 6lb
BMI: 33.16

Day 112
Weight: 17St 0lb
BMI: 28.97

57 days to go
Lost this week 1lb
Weight loss to date = 34lb
Target weight = 16st
Remaining to lose = 14lb

Happy with not gaining. 16 stone may be difficult now but I'll give it a go. I don't think I look fat anymore, feel much healthier, reasonably fit and starting to get more toned so I am just at the trying to look my best mindset rather than the previous trying to not look embarrassing!

Gym yesterday. .
2k Row
08/01/2014 = 9 47sec
11/01/2014 = 8min 25.2sec
10/02/2014 = 8min 10sec
05/03/2014 = 7min 51sec
29/03/2014 = 7min 40sec
Yesterday = 7min 32sec

I am also really thinking that the 30 minute barrier is definitely breakable for me on the 20km bike. I did 15 min 10 seconds for 10km yesterday. I was glad it was over but I think I can maintain that pace!

I am working away 5 days next week so it is going to be another difficult week! I have a planned 5.5 mile run today with the Mrs and the dog that we walked a couple of weeks ago which will be the furthest I have ran for over 10 years. I still don't understand how people class running as a fun hobby but i don't find running difficult anymore. Walking it last time gave me blisters so I am a little dreading it!

You have shed a bag and a half of sugar during what you expected to be a bad week because you were working away?

With 57 days to go you needed to lose 14lbs. That is roughly 1lb every 5 days. You just lost 3lbs in a week which is impressive especially as you were away from home.

08/01/2014 = Only managed 3.5km
14/01/2014 = 30m 50s
22/01/2014 = 30m 16s
06/02/2014 = 29m 48s
12/02/2014 = 29m 45s
20/02/2014= 29m 21s
25/02/2014 = 28m 42s
27/02/2014 = 28m 33s
05/03/2014 = 27m 48s
26/03/2014 = 27m 26s
10/04/2014 = 27m 03s
Today = 26m 20s

It was not fun at the time but feels good now :)

Its just because 11 pounds feels so far away and 7 weeks feels so close!

It feels like its been slow since mid march. In the last 6 or 7 weeks I have lost 10lb and feels as if my weight loss has stagnated......actually I am glad I just worked that 10lb loss out as its not as slow as I thought it had been

Exactly 8-)

And when you have two of the more "glass half empty" posters being positive, there is something wrong with your attitude

Looking on an even brighter side: even if you only lose 1lb a week for the next 7 you will only be 4 away from your target - which you would probably have taken when you were a fat bstrd lard ass

Day 1.
Weight: 19st 6lb
BMI: 33.16

Day 126
Weight: 16st 11lb
BMI: 28.62

43 days to go
Lost this week = less than 1 lb
Weight loss to date = 37lb
Target weight = 16st
Remaining to lose = 11lb

Tiniest of losses but the wii fit I am using only tells you to the nearest pound. It's getting harder and harder with less reward for more effort.

To be honest I'm happy already and receiving complements from everywhere but will keep going!
