Re: Best 10 miles TT Time
26.33 for me. Ok, obviously not in Achiles' league but a pretty solid time for a club rider that doesn't race. Generally only the club TT specialists and the (decent, not just the Cat 4) racers go a lot faster than that. Took me a couple of seasons to get to that from the 30min initial efforts not ridden the road bike a lot since though so will have slipped back. MTBing just doesn't develop the right skills for fast TT's.
24 mins is known as evens (25mph average). You get under evens and you're a very good rider. 22 mins is exceptional and sub 20 is approaching pro level (Wiggins and the Hutch (current British 10 champion) come in a fraction under 18 mins).
I guess Pasty and Neath Boy would get pretty decent times.

Re: Best 10 miles TT Time
I'm afraid Ashers that there seems to have been a silly misunderstanding.
In the thread that Achiles started asking for advice on a time trial helmet I asked Achiles what bike he had and what his 10 mile Time Trial time was so that I could offer the appropriate advice.
It appears that my question was misunderstood. The 23 minutes was apparently self timed on a downhill stretch of road 'about 10 miles long', rather than a proper TT. It's also not actually clear whether it was on a bicycle.
In the absence of an official time, I think the 23 minutes should be removed, or perhaps moved to another category?

It wasnt all downhill, but by my admission I had no ascents on the road and where it wasnt downhill it was fairly flat.unc.si. wrote:I'm afraid Ashers that there seems to have been a silly misunderstanding.

Just out of interest, what bike were you using, if not the Triban?

I would have to check on that, it was one of my mates, he has over 10 road bikes in his shed, the name Bottecchia rings a bell but I'm not sure on the model.

A Bullshietta maybe? Hand made steel frames from Northern Italy though. Quite rare round here.Achiles74 wrote:I would have to check on that, it was one of my mates, he has over 10 road bikes in his shed, the name Bottecchia rings a bell but I'm not sure on the model.

Surely the amount of descending is more relevant than the bike?
Although I don't feel to safe on mine over 70kmh or c44mph

The cycling computer was on the bike, I made a note of how long it took us to cycle approx 10 miles at the time.unc.si. wrote:I guess it was your mates cycling computer as well. Nice of him to keep a record of your ride for you.

Just trying to understand the scenario. You're only giving up little bits of info at a time and I like detail.Achiles74 wrote:The cycling computer was on the bike, I made a note of how long it took us to cycle approx 10 miles at the time.unc.si. wrote:I guess it was your mates cycling computer as well. Was it a recent ride? Snowdonia presumably? Btw the Tour of Britain is heading to Llanberis next week. You should pop over and see them going over the Pass. Should be a good spectacle.

Plan to do a quick climb up tryfan in the morning followed by going over to Pen-y-pass later.
or maybe something around pen-y-pass (Crib Goch may take too long unless I wake up at 4am), so perhaps heading from Pen-y-pass over to Glyders.
The ride was around Bristol (my mate is from there) no idea on the route we took.

You were in Bristol on Friday? Long way from home isn't it.
If you're at pen y pass and don't want to stray too far before the race then Dinas Cromlech's got some classic routes.

Dinas Cromlech is a grade 3 climb (I think) I have heard of it in climbing circles.
I would only be looking for a grade 1 climb something like Tryfan or Crib Goch which you can scramble up

Re: Best 10 miles TT Time
Cenotaph Corner and Left Wall on the Cromlech are around E1 (and possibly the 2 finest pitches in the country). Right wall is something stupid like E5. Cenotaph is the big inside corner that you can see from the road. Rite of passage for all climbers. Joe Brown route I think?
No use if you want scrambling though. Strictly ropes only, unless you're Jimmy Jewel that is (RIP).
Re the 10 mile time, so what you're saying is that on some random ride in the past, you just happened to note down one particular downhill ish 10 mile ish segment just in case someone asked you how fast you can ride a 10mile TT?? You noted that very specific piece of info, yet don't know the actual route or even what bike you were riding?
Why didn't you just say 'Ive never ridden a 10mile TT', then I could just have said 'probably not the right helmet for you then, try an Atmos'
And you wonder why you have credibility issues on here?

I wasnt aware of what a 10mile TT entailed so my data was wrong.
However I like the Giro Attack shield just because it has a magnetic sheild, keeps flys and sun from your eyes better than a pair of sunglasses would.
prob would look a tit wearing it I guess, I will look at the atmos.

Actually a fairly poor selection of loony fans there compared to Caerphilly.
What do you mean, as near as you could get? Liverpool? Kidderminster?
