Running to work
Anyone tried this?
I've been doing it this week since my bike is out of action (waiting for new tyre to be delivered), running from Euston station to the City (2.6 miles) and back again in the evening. Probably not the best week to start this up due to the ridiculous heat but I'm enjoying it having got over the logistical side of things. Had to lug a laptop in on Monday plus a load of clothes
I figure that when my bike is back I'll cycle in on a Monday with a backpack full of clean shirts, (suit stays at work), then run back Monday PM, run there and back till Friday and cycle back Friday evening with a backpack full of sweaty shirts.
Normally I would go out for a run during lunchtime 2 or 3 days a week so that has now finished, commute is a little bit slower than cycling (25 mins rather than 20) but a lot less hassle (taxis, buses, traffic lights are all eff chaps) but main advantage has been getting the train back home at night, no-one seems to want to sit next to me so I get loads of room to stretch out
(although when I open my legs even I don't want to sit next to me )

I could conceivably run once I get into Euston from there to Canary Wharf, but I can run lunchtime instead, so I don't consider it.

Re: Running to work
You are just storing up problems when you get to your 50's.
Human beings are not meant to run on tarmac/concrete, the result being wear and tear on your joints, knees and hips.
When you get to your 50's you will be waiting for hip and knee replacements.
If you want to do exericise at work, find a local swimming, or if you must run, go off road running.

Where you getting the tyre from??
Goto Wiggle - order - arrives next day. Stick on bike. Job's a goodun.
Or is it special rubber harvested from the Rubber trees of the Amazon Basin by naked virgins and hand crafted into the finest, fastest tyres man can buy???

Not that I've seen. The bike porn in Condor Cycles (Gray's Inn Road) is pretty good thoughmurf wrote:With naked virgins?unc.si. wrote:They have bike shops in London as well

Re: Running to work
Actually went into condor cycles after my puncture/tyre explosion to see if they would fix on the spot but they said they were booked up for 4 weeks. And they didn't have the tyres in stock, 20 x1.5 so I ordered off eBay.
Anyway I'm not too fussed about getting back on the bike cos I'm a runner now

Re: Running to work
Dahon mu UNO. Single speed folder, just right for a short hop. Actually I was thinking about trying to customise it and fit an automatic 2 speed hub on the back wheel to give it a bit more straight line speed and let me ease off on the furious pumping. But I think that means having to build a whole new wheel from scratch and my record of bike maintenance is sketchy...

Re: Running to work
Its a good thing you decided on what distance you want to run. if you didnt you would just keep adding and adding on distance forever and never learn how to run it in a good time.
