Made a couple over Christmas and New year. New years day was 21-20 which is a minute down on my pb but at least 30 seconds quicker than the first one back on Christmas Eve. I am not sure how many I will get in this year as it clashes with something else. I had hoped to get a sub 20 under my belt at the start of 2016 but injury got in the way and I am now just building back.

Another 4 seconds shaved off. Ran 24:37 mid-Jan, next outing was last weekend when it was wet and got wetter. When it rains there's a big puddle about 250 metres in and when it rains heavily, it's a big puddle. Suffice to say that my feet were wet from then on
Most of the usual front runners were absent so it was hard to gauge my pace and it took me about a quarter of the distance to find a rhythm. Despite shoes like sponges by the end, a new PB

And it was also the first time I've felt fit enough the next day to do some more - so I "ran" the junior parkrun with my daughter who has just got into it.

Incidentally - do people time themselves and find any discrepancy with the official times given? I've still not got the hang of starting myself in the right place...

The Pappjette was gutted last week too. The 1st week she did it, I didn't realise adults could run with them so didn't do so. She walked in chunks but did it and I was proud of her. Last week I went to do it with her and was hoping she'd get a better time. Despite jogging the whole way and not stopping once, her official time was 30 seconds slower which I don't believe for a second. Poor thing had tears in her eyes! I'm convinced the timing was wrong one of the weeks. Anyway, we'll hopefully be back down on Sunday to give her another shot (and at the end of the day, it's the exercise and fresh air that counts).

We have had occasional timing errors, plus and minus, at Gunpowder. I'm doing finish tokens next week - hoping it goes smoothly...my first non running role, due to 5 weeks off after hernia surgery.

It doesn't take much to create a timing error. One extra press on a stopwatch or a mess up with the tokens. Many use 2 stopwatches and they have to figure out which to use if they disagree!

I usually time myself and it is usually right but often there are errors somewhere. You can often tell if you remember the gaps to those around you and they don't match the results.

A quick message to the run director can fix it sometimes.

I've never done any of those roles, just been a tail runner (a good one if nursing injury) and pacer.

Weather forecast here is drizzle at 8 and dry by 9 today. Been raining the last day or so which could mean getting out the waterproof socks anyway!

And there we have it - the might of Mystery, Digsby and Murf all leapfrogged in one fell swoop! I thought I was in with a chance of a new best but not 49 seconds worth....
(Incidentally - timing, it's perfect  )
I positioned myself closer to the front at the start and certainly felt like I was being pulled along at a quicker lick before trying to settle into a decent pace. I'm definitely finding that with doing it more regularly now, I can feel the difference with the fatigue coming later and later in the run.

Re the timing, I didn't make clear but the question was mainly due to the funny result with my daughter rather than me querying my times. I might lose a few seconds in the slow squeeze at the start but nothing major. If she and I go down tomorrow we'll see what the 3rd run brings as a balancing time.

Excellent stuff :D - taken my place in the FISO top 10
Did my 50th run at my local course today, PB there still only 24:26 (run as a 'tourist' on the day I viewed my new house back in Aug 15 - not beaten it since. We've now done 153 runs in total - aiming for 200th on my birthday, this weekend next year)

We did a Pymmes tourist run back in May, which luckily coincided with Bruce Li visiting - he tours with camera and video. Just been notified of the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxtwlmmnrVY

As there were only 32 runners that day, everyone gets a starring role. I'm in red England shirt, Brightwater jr in black with floppy hair...now donated to Little Princess Trust: http://www.littleprincesses.org.uk/donate-hair/

This regular running lark is good, isnt it?!

I followed that big leap with a 23:50 - second fastest time since I started parkrun and I felt very comfortable doing so. There was a thinner turnout with fairly uninspiring weather conditions and I found myself running in my own space for a good part of the second half, so no others to hang on the tails of.

Last weekend there were a couple of pacers with their target times pinned on their chest. Whenever I glanced around to see the 24-minute man, I reckoned I was about 10 seconds ahead of him and so tracking at roughly 23:50 again. A fair bit of effort went into the finishing stretch and it turned out that he must have been tracking ahead of his target! Pretty chuffed with another 15s off - next stop is to target <23 mins.

Cheers Mystery.

Bit gutted about yesterday - it was my local's 100th parkrun and I was determined to try and crack 23 minutes, despite a week consisting of plenty of cake and more wine than usual.

Went hard for the finish and stopped my clock at 23:05 so thought I might have shaved 1 or 2 seconds off it - only for the official time to come in at 23:10 :( I wasn't that economical with starting my stopwatch! Oh well, the target remains!

Good work el P. Must be doing something right to keep churning out 23s.

Another slow jog round for me yesterday (29s) due to yet another recurrence of a back muscle injury. Think that puts paid to my target half marathon in late April as I'm not getting the training runs in to increase my duration.

My first one since New Years Day and got back under 21 minutes with 20-56 although not officially recorded against my name as I forgot my bar code! Happy with that though with my first diathlon of the season only 2 weeks away

Back after a few weeks' absence and a few slightly slower times, yesterday I took advantage of not having my usual late night red wine-fuelled FISODAS team shenanigans on Friday night and got a decent kip in. A proper stretch followed and complete with new-found relaxed breathing technique (i.e. slack cheeks and drooling because I'm a mouth-breather  ) I forced myself home with 3 seconds shaved off my time. A nervous wait followed before the email arrived to ratify it!

I can feel it's going to make for different running now the temperatures are warming up - even though there was a chill when I left my door, running under the sun brings its own challenges. On the flip side, I'm hoping to use the lighter evenings for some evening jogging/running.

Good stuff el p.

Been relatively slow myself lately. Haven't even cracked 25 lately or even managed a sub 26 on my home Parkrun (by my reckoning it is a full minute slower than a typical course). Had several weeks of interupted training due to a recurring back problem but getting back to it now and times are creeping down. May go pear shaped as I've dug my bike out of hibernation and now taken delivery of an attachment so my dog can safely(ish!) run alongside so I will do less running. Also now getting warm enough for us to do more fell walking.

Will all improve my overall fitness but will it help my 5km running times????

After a period of really good distance training for a series of half-marathons in March, May and June I had been looking forward to getting back to a proper Parkrun. I followed a couple of people who I used to work with who were about my pace or a bit faster and ended up coming through the funnel under 24 minutes for the first time. Absolutely delighted!

You've got a month at least as I'm prioritising a hilly 8 mile race in a fortnight then the Rock n Roll 5k and Half Marathon in Liverpool a fortnight after that.

I was planning on my half marathon today but injuries stopped me upping the training mileage in time. Tough, hilly course too (Keswick) so couldn't really just muddle through. Next year...

Good stuff KC - welcome aboard :D

I note you have added yourself amongst the 'friends and family' bit - move yourself to the main FISOers list above (19th with a few targets just above you!)

Saw your PB, 27:02, was once my PB - I set mine on my 13th run (22 Feb 2014)

Well done kc. Loads of new joiners at every parkrun I've been too this year which is great to see.

Not online much so a long overdue update. Been focusing on quantity over quality of parkruns to hit 20 different venues and get on the 'most events table'. Job done 8-)

Favourite so far: Fountains Abbey, Ripon
Least Favourite: Cross Flatts, Leeds

Think I have only done 8 different ones but 2 have had totally different venues over time so I could say 10 without counting winter, summer and post-flood variations.

All have had plusses being special venues or easy/fast courses. Best location was definitely the temporary Keswick one on the shore of Derwent Water when the original course got washed away in the flood. Damn tough although better when the ground was frozen. Was something really special on the couple of occasions when it was sunny, frozen and the mountains had snow on.

I've just read "born to run". One of the best books I've ever read, it starts a little slowly but once it gets going it's an extraordinary (true) story with loads of running tips in the bargain. I'd urge anyone who likes running to read it.

Am up for suggestions of other similar books (have read "running with the Kenyans".
