When you're down beside the lake...

Went to Milton Keynes (Willen Lake) today and got wiped out by a bloody swan! Took my legs from under me as the flying menace and its buddies took off for the water. Other than homicidal wildlife, it's a nice course although a little too popular.

Congrats murf on reaching 200, that's quite some going.

I think Takeshi Kovacs (used to post a lot on here) was/is an MK runner.

Never been taken out by a swan before but have had a late start while the marshals herded them off the start stretch of the course (Great Notley back in Essex). Not easy with cygnets!

Have had to stop to let deer run across the course (Hatfield Forest, Essex) and also seen red squirrels a few times (Workington old course) and cows (loads at Hatfield Forest) but the only animals to try and take me out are the loose dogs of thoughtless owners (not parkrunners).

Bit slow today (had to sprint to get to the line in under 32) as the conditions weren't good. Icy and slushy in places to add to the 700ft of ascent, wind and rain (luckily eased off). All good fun!

Last week at Pymmes I paced my 10yo grandson who is a bit faster than me. When I announced the 2.5k time he shot off like a bat out of hell and ran a massive negative split. I did my usual "sprint" finish, didn't quite time it right to catch a slow finisher, checked my last stride to avoid bumping and slipped on mud. I was mentioned in dispatches - the first time I have been compared to Jurgen Klinsmann! George's version: "Grandad fell over, I beat him".

Not done parkrun for a few weeks now, mmainly due to the winter lergy. Tomorrow I'll be doing my second 10k in preparation for my local half marathon on March 18th. Last week I ran my first 10k since 1998 and was chuffed to do it in 50 minutes :D Especially as I'd not run at all for a fortnight at least.

Hopefully this distance running will improve my parkrun times when I go back to it....

Gosh - thought I hadn't seen anything on this thread for a while but didn't realise it had been this long!

Suffice to say that my half marathon was cancelled due to the second Beast from the East - it's now next weekend instead! Not been doing a lot of parkrun of late as I've been doing more in the way of 10ks. I've also realised I was massively undercooked for the March event, not helped by a fortnight wiped out with a bad back. BUt with a couple of decent long runs under my belt, I'm feeling much more prepared.

So it's the Wilmslow half next weekend, followed a week later by the Alderley Edge bypass 10k...and then I want to finally crack 23 minutes for my local parkrun!

I've not been saying much because my Parkruns are all uphill and slow. Not sure about 23 minutes, been struggling to break 33 some weeks lately. 210m of ascent in the sun has been tough of late and won't beat my course PB of 29:55 in near future.

Doing some tourism next week. New venue for me but will 3 laps of a flat park just compare to ascending a Lake District hill?!

First one on my regular course in 18 months. Wanted to break 22 and did 21-51 with negative splits.
My elder son put a minute into me with a 20-22.
I have only got back running in last 2 months and have now entered a triathlon in 6 weeks including sea swim! Gulp!

I've not been to parkrun for a little while. It's just not been a priority really when there's lots of other interesting stuff going on in real life. I'll soon have a new local event, Prospect park in Reading. Quite a flat run so might be a good quick one

I've just done a Parkrun for the 20th consecutive weekend, not sure what that says about my life! I only missed the one before that because all events around here were cancelled due to snow and ice. Other than xmas day the last one I missed for non weather cancellation reasons was when I was injured last September!

Was happy to get some form back today, sub 32* on my local course for the first time since April. Helped that it was cooler and we were running into the bottom of the cloud whereas last few weeks have been scorching sunshine.

(* I'm not that slow - it is a tough course. For comparison, I did do a 26:01 on a flat course as a tourist recently)

I've still not been back for a variety of reasons, although I did 5k on Saturday anyway.

I survived the heat of the half-marathon and, courtesy of a lung-busting kick for the final few hundred metres, came in below the 2 hour mark I was hoping to beat. Happy days - and so thoughtful of a few homeowners along the way to stand and spray their hoses over everyone!

The week after was the Alderley Edge Bypass 10k event which is basically where I'd done a lot of my training. It was even hotter for this one and so I went steadily - a comfortable 53 minutes. My 10k pb is just under 50 minutes (set on that same stretch) and I want to try and bring that down.

Hopefully sub-23 on the way soon though....

I think subconsciously I must have taken my last post in here to heart as I've done every Parkrun I've been able to.

Unfortunately, that's been the grand total of two, and one of those was in the middle of an 8 mile run with Parkrun in the centre of it. Should have been two more but my new local parkrun hasn't been on the two weeks I've been here due to clashing events in the park.

I have however been running better recently, enough to decide to enter another Half Marathon this year. A course PB of 2:03ish would be good. A lifetime best of 1:55 would be brill.

Still not done another parkrun, mainly as I've taken to doing a 5.8k loop from my house earlier on a Saturday morning.

Today I decided to do c.10k to push my mileage back up - and I've only gone and pulverised my 10k PB :o

Was going steadyish I thought, rather than pacing faster for the 5.8k loop, and bearing in mind a big meal out last night. Then looked at my watch, did a bit of maths and realised I was on course for a fast time. Lo and behold, a new best of 49:23 set :D

Now I'm wondering where I can get it to if I'm actually trying

Sub 50 for 10k is pretty good. I've not done it but then again I don't think I've ever done 10k on anything approaching a flat course (any excuse...)

Another slow 5k for me & the dog this morning. Feeling fit and have the endurance (regularly do a 10k training run) but I have lost the speed, we were both especially heavy-legged today after spending yesterday walking on the fells.

Times are probably taking second place to racking up the numbers at the moment, we've now done 233 Parkruns and hopefully we'll get to the magic 250 in Jan/Feb next year then our next target is the 214 Wainwright summits (131 so far).

Cheers guys. I guess it shows the benefits of becoming a regular runner and also the training needed for the half-marathon earlier in the year. I remember reading about ideal cadence levels and wondering how on Earth I could speed mine up, but it's happening naturally. I'm currently mulling over night lights to get me through the winter!

Impressive stuff ep. I also found out I sped up 'naturally' as I improved my time as I got fitter including marathon training. Did throw in some interval training to improve speed which I felt might have worked but was never sure and maybe it was just repeated training.

No more speed improvements though, I think you must be stealing my time as my best this year is a 26:01 - mind you that was my only run on a flattish course! I'm definitely slowing down, not really down to fitness as I regularly do 10k on practice runs on hilly roads, albeit less runs than I did at peak fitness. As my new local course is super hilly (over 200m of ascent) maybe I'm building the wrong muscles which hinder raw speed???

Tomorrow is the 5th anniversary of my first parkrun. Quite surprised I've stayed with it so long and been so regular/addicted. Me and my four legged companion, Faye, should clock up our 250th parkrun in January, averaging about 48 a year (only missed one this year so far when the beast from the east cancelled most runs).

So, still going, just not as quickly!

Bit of a shock this morning - managed to somehow set a 'personal best' finishing position of 13th  :D

OK there were only 31 finishers (due to a combo of road closure, low tourist numbers and forecast bad weather - actually glorious sunshine) but I'll take that. Previous best was 16th.

Well done. Great effort.

I'm still going but not really getting anywhere in terms of time. My wife and I did our first New Year's Day double this year in Maidenhead and St Albans. Enjoyed that

Thanks. Just the 5 years til my next milestone t-shirt. Have got a nearer target of doing every parkrun for a whole year. Last one I missed was due to the Beast From The East cancelling them all (March?). Just got to keep going til the anniversary.

The double is a good start to the year isn't it. Both of mine got record turnouts, about 160 doing the double. Exactly 500 at the 10:30 one, think the previous record wasn't far over 300. Some (not me) ran the 5 miles between them too - but it is mostly downhill!

My times are still rubbish although I did my best time of the year on a flattish route as a tourist (Newark) on the last run of the year (Dec 29th) but even that was 25-40something. Hopefully I can have a crack at a sub 25 soon for old times sake!

Great effort, Murf!

I've not run since Dec 1st when I did parkrun and then 4 days later was hit by sciatica. I'm still struggling with it and likely back at the GP this coming week. Hopes of doing the Manchester marathon in early-April have been shattered :(

Unlucky. Don't know much about sciatica but know it is no fun.

Did my fastest parkRun since 2016 today (110 runs ago) :D

25:23 - still 100s outside my PB  but at least I'm feeling better when running than in a long while. Thought I was permanently rubbish due to age but have felt better in last month or so - still some life left in me after all.

Started running from scratch last year (by doing the Couch to 5k programme) and am loving it :D

Worked my way up to a HM race, which I completed a couple of weeks ago. Don't often run shorter distances these days, but did rock up to the Reading Parkrun in Feb and went round in 34m 10s. Well outside my best time of 30m 57s, but that'll do for starters.

Plan to do more parkruns every now and again.

Good stuff. A half marathon is a fantastic achievement, especially from scratch. Surely you want to crack 30 minutes for a parkrin though?! More sprint training!

I'm still plodding round the parkruns (joined the 250 Club in January). Rarely miss a week, in fact did 50 in 47 weeks between two snow/ice cancellations!

Was hoping to do the local HM in May but had a few niggly health things curtail my training so that won't happen (3rd year running my intentions dashed). Did a 10km trail yesterday morning, lots of hills, about 400m of climbing in total so plenty of walking but still cracked my 1:10 target. Just. Don't think I've run more than about 8 miles since I did a Marathon (badly) three years ago.
