The Spaceballs leagues consist of one classic league and one head-to-head league. You can either join one of your preference or both.

The Head-to-Head-format is called "Cup". It starts for Gameweek 1. There is no limit on the number of managers.

Format:
- It's a H2H-league you'll stay in all season long for sure until the knockout-stage gets started.
- The top 8 squads will play three knock-out-rounds at the end of the season (GW 36, 37 and 38).

There are 97 managers (+average) in the league, the second most ever!

I'd like to present my private leagues called „Spaceballs“:

Format: very classic style, just one classic league (about 200+ managers) and one H2H-league non limited on the number on managers (in the past there were between 35 and 107 managers in). In the H2H-league three play-off-rounds are played at the end of the season.

Story behind: I've created these leagues 5 years ago as an experiment, just to see what happens. Never thought they'll gonna reach the current size and they'll survive such a long time. Since summer 2016 I run infothreads on FISO concerning these leagues.

Managers: First of all they come from the FISO forum and the german Transfermarkt.de forum. There is another big part of users from all over the world that found their way to the leagues individually. Since FPL stopped offering the ingame message boards in 2016, it became more diffcult for me to reach the community of FPL users outside from the two mentioned forums.

Purpose: My aim is principally to give a league-home to the average, casual and newbie managers of FPL. These are by far the biggest sections of FPL players and because of that in my opinion the most important. I want to give them the opportunity to compete and measure up with a bunch of highly rated, experienced and reliable cracks, who are in my leagues since a long time already.

Specialities: All time stats, updates during the season, medal tables (based on the monthly tables). I like creating these stats and it gives me a motivation and goal to deal with the leagues during the FPL season. So for me it's fun (and as being a Swiss it's a good occasion to use my english writing), but I don't know, if people who joined the leagues notice and appreciate these activities.

Future: One important principle of mine is: As long as there are at least ten managers in the leagues, I'll run them, should there be less I wouldn't.
I hope to find once one or two "assistants" who could take over the classic league if needed (e.g. if I'd like to take a FPL break or whatever).

Hall of Fame
--------------------

The Hall of Fame of the Spaceballs leagues consists of those users, who were in my leagues for at least one season and reached the best overall ranks of all the participants of these leagues. Only players, who finished the season in my leagues are in that list. Every manager can be listed more than once, if he manages to reach the top ranks in different seasons.

Spaceballs Leagues Times (April 2019)
-------------------------------------------------

Winner of March 2019 - Louise Chennell (England Team/ Bournemouth) managed to win the March 2019 monthly table in a very spectacular way. She achieved a total of 325 points in the end. This has been the 94th rank in the world overall monthly table. Runner-up of March 2019 was Brendan Renwick (Ireland/Everton). On third place there is Paul Willis representing Wales and Cardiff City. All three managers have won already a monthly table in the Spaceballs classic league not so long ago. Louise Chennell in January 2018, Brendan Renwick in November 2018 and Paul Willis in January of this year.

The winner of March 2019 had an impressive run over the last couple of weeks. Thanks to seven consecutive green arrows, she could approve from a 480k rank to a 29k rank just within seven GW's.

Winner of February 2019 - Finally a first monthly table win for South Africa. After having won 4 medals so far in five seasons, thanks to manager Niyaaz Langtry the colourful flag of the South African country appeared on the 1st place this time. Not so for Canada: Michael Miller, who's in both leagues since many years, only got 2nd. This meant to be a fourth 2nd place for Canada in the history of the Spaceballs classic league. On rank three, the most successful nation Malaysia achieved a second bronze medal of the season, as keropok gotel finished third. The Asian made a huge jump from a 2,4 mio rank in GW24 to 966k in GW27. (mw/2Mar19)

Winner of January 2019 - The first monthly table of the year 2019 has been won by Paul Willis, representing Wales and Cardiff City. This meant to be the first gold-medal win for Wales since April 2016. For Cardiff City it was the first ever medal win, exactly in that month, when this club appeared countless times in the headlines due to the Emiliano Sala-tragedy.

Paul Willis team is currently on a 4th rank in the Spaceballs Cup (H2H league). After a strong start he had a diver to 609k place in GW16, but could achieve an impressive turn-around and is now placed around a 176k rank in the OR table. (mw/2Mar19)

This posting concerns the Medal Tables of the Spaceballs classic league

Medal tables? What the ... are medal tables?

Medal tables are rankings mostly common at international championships or Olympic Games and usually created for nations only. Here is an example from the Summer Olympic Games 2016:

Ok... But how to link that with football, especially FPL?

Every player at FPL has his nation flag (which he can choose, normally it's his real nationality or perhaps it's chosen for other reasons) and a big part of the managers also has a fan league logo in their profile. For creating the medal table, I just look at the different flag or fan logo from those managers, who achieved a top three rank - either in a monthly table, at mid season (after GW19) or at the very end of the season. Depending on their final rank (1, 2 or 3), they can "win" a gold, silver or bronze medal - exactly for that nation and/or fan league, which they represent in FPL.


Why do you do this?

Just to invite players for the league in summer and forget during the season would be boring to me. I prefer to deal with the leagues (both classic and H2H) during the season and make some "analysis" from these. So I had the idea to create such "medal" tables. I like doing this and I'm excited by studying the diversity of represented nationalites and fan leagues. Every month I'm keen to know who won, interested to pursue the results and to see how the tables develop. Sometimes there are unbelivable details to discover which I'd have never noticed if not doing this kind of tables. Maybe someone out there can identify with his flag and/or logo he represents in the FPL game and try to fight as a member of the Spaceballs classic league for "his" nation or football club.



Introduction for advanced players
-------------------------------------------

How does it work?

For a first rank there is a gold, for a second place a silver and for a third place a bronze medal given. Apologies, this are not real medals, they’re only imagined.

There are 17 sets awarded during the season (1 set consisting of 1 x gold, silver, bronze):

1) For the top three managers of every monthly table (factor 1).

2) From August to December and January to May there is - based on the results of the five monthly final tables - a mini-medal table created. The top three nations (and fan leagues respectively) of this one, also receive a set of medals for each of them (factor 1). If there is an equal number of medals reached, the higher average of points of the medal-winning month wins.

3) There is a further set of medals awarded for the leading three managers at season halftime (after GW 19). These medals are multiplied by factor 2.

4) The medals awarded at the very end of the season for the top three managers of the overall table are multiplied by factor 3.

5) Medals awarded at season halftime and at the end of the season for the leading three managers do not count in the half seasonal mini-medal tables.

Fantasy Teams created
-----------------------------

Because there is nearly a quarter of the participants from England in the classic league, I decided to split the English nationality in several sections by creating some new fantasy nations. They are called as «England Team», «Liverpool Team», «London Team» and «Manchester Team». This is for having more equal distribution and better chances doing well in the medal table for a bigger number of nations (teams).

All the managers representing England AND a fan league (football club) are assigned as follow:

England Team = representing England and NO fan league at all or a fan league except from Everton, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Tottenham, West Ham, ManCy or ManU;
Liverpool Team = representing England and the fan leagues of Everton/Liverpool;
London Team = representing England and the fan leagues of Arsenal, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Tottenham or West Ham;
Manchester Team = representing England and the fan leagues of Manchester City/Manchester United;
