Re: JPMorgan Telegraph Fantasy Fund Manager game
Thought I'd better join the mini-league only to find I've already done it.
Been & changed all my money round.
Don't trust these 'lucky dip' buttons. If lucky dip was so good, I've have won the lottery by now.

Thanks for the bump. There are now 17 people in the league so hopefully most will remember.

Just 5 full days before the competition starts proper.
Worth a bounce, as many have prospered on this forum and seeing as the world stock markets are somewhat topsy turvey, even an auto pick could get you off to a flying start.
Good luck everyone.

Re: JPMorgan Telegraph Fantasy Fund Manager game
There are still some problems with making transfers - per the Telegraph:
I suggest you click on "Feeling Lucky", then click on "Save", modify your portfolio as you wish an click save again. Bit of a pain.
Though they have now rolled out a fix - not sure if it works yet - they think it was an IE only problem - should be ok with Firefox etc.

Re: JPMorgan Telegraph Fantasy Fund Manager game
I've had no problems and I'm on Firefox so it may just be an IE issue. Maybe just IE8 - I know some sites aren't handling it very well.

Oh well, scrap my wooden spoon idea if The Bear has found the threadmurf wrote:Can you stick your money in a savngs account and hope the bank doesn't go bust?
More profitable than buying shares at the moment.
In fact a wooden spoon for the biggest loss would be a more fun competition!

The updates may be live but I can't see how they match my portfolio. Looks like most people are on -0.01% so far.
There's not a single positive on the FISO league yet and I'm second to last! Maybe we should establish who the investment "professionals" are so that we can see who does better - them or the amateurs!

Re: JPMorgan Telegraph Fantasy Fund Manager game
There is not a single positive anywhere let alone in the Fiso league - would not pay too much attention -0.1 looks like a standard reduction.
You can see other peoples teams - interestingly most people seem to have the bare minimum of 5 holdings - I went for 15 or so to diversify a bit.
What about other people?

Re: JPMorgan Telegraph Fantasy Fund Manager game
This was my thinking but I was just confused as to how my negative was much larger. I think it'll need a week or so to accurately reflect performance.Knulpuk wrote:There is not a single positive anywhere let alone in the Fiso league - would not pay too much attention -0.1 looks like a standard reduction.
I saw that too but I think it's just a snapshot of their portfolio. It seems odd that so many people would just have 5 funds.Knulpuk wrote:You can see other peoples teams - interestingly most people seem to have the bare minimum of 5 holdings - I went for 15 or so to diversify a bit.

Re: JPMorgan Telegraph Fantasy Fund Manager game
I decided to enter late last night. Seemingly like everyone else my portfolio has been deducted £10 but doesn't seem to show value increases for the day - maybe these are only fully reflected when fund traded or at midnight each day?

Odd that a tenner is deducted tho as the rules stateadmin wrote:I decided to enter late last night. Seemingly like everyone else my portfolio has been deducted £10 but doesn't seem to show value increases for the day - maybe these are only fully reflected when fund traded or at midnight each day?
You can change your portfolio as many times as you like until the game start, after that you will be charged an imaginary £10 for any trades you make on a day.
I have made no trades today (and I assume not many have) so why have a tarding charge deducted?
I think they are having a few teething problems in getting the numbers correct

Re: JPMorgan Telegraph Fantasy Fund Manager game
The individual holdings on the portfolio seem to have been updated with regard % moves but these do not translate into higher or lower carrying values as of yet.
Everyone is down £10 (the cost of 1 trade) - I suspect they are just firing it up.
800 odd super leagues.

Re: JPMorgan Telegraph Fantasy Fund Manager game
Tables seems to have sorted themselves out now.
12 people in Profit and 15 showing a loss.
Overall leader is +5.43%
FISO leader kickers 11 is +2.73%
FISO mini League is in 587th place on -0.32% ( Leading Mini-League +3.54%)
I'm 7th in FISO and 4515th overall on +0.11%
Not sure how many entries there are, but I would guess about 50,000+

Re: JPMorgan Telegraph Fantasy Fund Manager game
Not that I want to sound like I'm looking for tips already but how did you manage to hit 2.79% in one day?! How many funds do you have and how much did you leave in "cash"?
You might be right about it all going downhill, but then you could just keep on gaining. The thing about this game compared to FF is that (within reason) the leader can lose everything in a very short period whilst those at the back can still make heavy gains. Here's hoping!

nothing in cash as with interest rates so low it is pointless.DrBunker wrote:Not that I want to sound like I'm looking for tips already but how did you manage to hit 2.79% in one day?! How many funds do you have and how much did you leave in "cash"?

I kept funds to the minimum 5 or 6 as I think with only 100k to play with having too many funds limits growth potential (although it spreads risk.)
I stayed out of any UK funds (with exception of property) as the UK is currently financially unviable with its debt, stayed out of any Swiss based funds as they want to quickly bring down their swiss franc value to avoid meltdown.
My general approach was on the basis that the recession will end very soon and economic growth will start, allbeit patchy and slow, from June/July this year (but I think I am alone in the world on that one!!). The markets in the last 2 months have indicated in parts that investors feel it is time to buy and LIBOR is back to pre-recession rates suggesting credit restrictions are easing.
By June the US will have been in recession for 18 months and that's the average length of a recession.
This is not a depression but a very steep recession with a long and slow pull out.
But despite all the above it's first and foremost pure luck!
It's worked so far but as you say its early days and big swings will happen but I'm happy to have been top of the FISO league for a day given the numbers of accountants and people in the business here.
