FISO NFL ESPN Season 13

Post by Rick Spangle »

Hi all - just getting season 13 of the FISO NFL league up and running.

Invites will be sent out to all of last year's players - and Mark (Crystal Tipps) is the first reserve if anyone drops out.

I've amended the roster size - one fewer bench spot as we now have an IR position.

As sugested by Stuart last year, the keeper deadline will be a full week ahead of the draft - as there is now the option of choosing 0,1 or 2 keepers, it gives people a little more time to plan strategy.

Draft day/time - it's traditionally 9pm on the Sunday of the August Bank Holiday weekend, but from a personal point of view I'd prefer it a week later this year. ESPN still doesn't have the facility for a multiple choice poll (I've just emailed them), but in the meantime I would suggest the following 5 options (all British Summer Times)
Sun 25th August 6pm
Sun 25th August 9pm
Wed 28th Aug 9pm
Sun 1st Sep 6pm
Sun 1st Sep 9pm

If anyone has any strong objections to any of these, please post - it should be possible to get a slot that suits everyone.

I can however put up a poll that requires just one answer, and that is regarding tied games. At the moment this is settled by higher bench score, but this way has never been a favourite of mine. The options available on the site are - most bench points, highest QB score, RB score or WR score, home team win, or no tie-breaker. Home team win is just daft, and individual positional high score is not much better (top RB score would penalise WR-heavy teams, and vice versa) - so the only two sane options seem to be most bench points or to leave a tie as a tie. A further option (not offered, but I would be prepared to manually edit results) is for the win to go to the team with the highest individual score from any position (and 2nd highest score and so on if it's still a tie) - which would be my vote. Simply put, three options..
1) Highest bench total (as it is at the moment)
2) Highest individual score
3) Leave a tie as a tie.
That poll is going up now.

Look forward to hearing from you all!

Thanks Forest.
Still waiting for three players to reply, I'll try another email/PM prompt.
They are three long standing members, so I'm assuming they'll be back.
But I want to set the league by a fortnight or so before draft day (which I have now set for Sunday 1st September 21.00 British Summer Time as there have been no objections). So, depending on responses, here's the plan.
If none of the three get back to me - I'll invite Mark (Crystal Tipps) to join, and we'll play as a 10-team league.
If only one replies, that will also make up a 10 team league.
If two reply, again I'll invite Mark to fill up a 12 team league.
And if all three reply, tahat's back to our original 12 team league.
It really needs to be an even number of players so we don't have bye weeks.
Hope this is OK with everyone.

I'm assuming that with nine returnees and nine votes on the poll, it's the same nine people! Once again, as with most votes in this league, no firm favourite as to which way to go to break ties - so I'll leave it up for as long as possible for any of the latecomers to register their preference. If there's no clear winner, the tie-break rule will stay as it is at the moment (most bench points).

Also, time to start thinking about setting your keepers - they will lock exactly 1 week before the draft. 0,1 or 2 keepers may be selected.

On my annual FISO Log-in - I'm in!

I can't make the draft on September 1 because I'll be at sea...but I will be dealing with whatever auto-draft gives me (again). It's got to be better than last year's real world draft which was an absolute disaster!

The bell has tolled for the Putney Gooners. Mark (Crystal tipps), if you send me your email address, I'll formally invite you, and you'll take over their squad (to select your 0,1 or 2 keepers from the previous year). May not be able to get anything done before Saturday night, so if I'm a bit slow responding, apologies.
Luckily I spell check - Gooners came out as Groomers which is quite the wrong message to send...

Invite sent - to ensure that you get the choice of keepers from the Gooners squad, you're temporarily being added as co-owner, then once you've replied, I'll delete Olly from ownership.

Mark - all done, welcome back!

So we're back to a full 12-team league, with a couple of changes from last years league. Putney Gooners are out, and it's a welcome back to Mark and Crystal Tipps. Also, Chingford Gingers is now a partnership team, with a father-and-son combo - welcome along to Daniel Clark.

Now we're complete, just a couple of things - firstly regarding keepers. Any owner may select 0,1 or 2 keepers from last years squad. There is a three-year limit on keepers, but since that rule was only introduced 2 years ago, no-one can fall foul of that rule this time around. These keepers must be selected by 9pm UK time Sunday 25th August, 1 week before the draft. I'll try and remember to give a prompt a day or so before, but if you forget to select keepers, they'll go back in the pot for anyone to draft.

To keep everything on one post, this is the draft order again.

Chingford Gingers - draft slot #1
Forest Tigers - draft slot #2
Fulchester Fish - draft slot #3
Cornish Tinners - draft slot #4
Get It Right Next Time - draft slot #5
Yorkshire Dragons - draft slot #6
Barry Crockers - draft slot #7
Bookhouse Boys - draft slot #8
X-Men - draft slot #9
Crystal Tipps - draft slot #10
Luck Skywalker - draft slot #11
Bruschi 54s - 2019 draft slot #12

I'll post everyone's keepers later that Sunday evening, so as everyone can see who's been thrown back into the draft.

The draft is 9pm UK time, 1st September.

Daniel, and Mark Truelove - there's a poll over on the actual league homepage regarding how to settle tied games - please vote - and that goes for 1 of the other 11 members who hasn't yet voted. It's pretty close at the moment.

Best wishes to all for an enjoyable season!

Rick.

Result of poll - although there's one still to vote, it's not going to affect the result. So no tie-breakers in the regular season this time around - a tie is a tie.

The draft seemed to go without a hitch (barring a self-confessed "panic pick" from the chairman!) - thanks to all of you who made it into the draft room.

Once again, I've aligned the three divisions based on last year's finishing order to try and ensure maximum equality between the three - 1 division contains the teams that finished 1st, 6th, 7th and 12th, the second division is last years 2nd, 5th, 8th and 11th, and the third is last years 3rd, 4th, 9th and 10th. The first three weeks are inter-division games, then the next 8 weeks are games against all the teams in the other two divisions, then back to inter-division games for weeks 12-14.

So to kick off week 1 (and please remember the season-opener CHI/GB games is this Thursday night), these are the opening fixtures.

Bruschi 54s @ Fulchester Fish
Bookhouse Boys @ Forest Tigers
Barry Crockers @ Luck Skywalker
Cornish Tinners @ Chingford Gingers
